What are your views on buying/selling/trading and gold buying on WAR?
I for one am totally against it and will post my full thoughts later. But all these account selling threads on other boards, that have yet to be banned, has me thinking about this topic a lot
So what are your thoughts?

Look... I hate to say it... but this buying and selling of accounts thing isn't going to go away any time soon. Seriously, it's not going anywhere. Neither are gold farmers and sellers.
The reason I liked the idea of the Station Exchange is because it minimizes the ammount of people who get ripped off. You can't put something up for auction that you don't have... and when you put it up it's removed from your inventory and account until the close of the auction, then automatically put into your (or the winning bidders) inventory.
Yeah yeah, you can flame me all you want. But whatever you do, or the company does, it's going to happen. Period. If you think it's going to mystically disappear you're blind to the fact that as long as there's a buck to be made, somebody's going to be out there doing it.

I realy get pissed of by people who just buy a high level char and don't know how to play it

I personally dislike both practices, along with real world sales of items in games. The folks at Mythic have their own position though - against gold farming, happy to say. Here's the statement Sanya made last year on the subject:

You know, what we are all doing here is "playing games." We all have different playing styles and ambitions within these games we play. Some, play for the fun of it, some play to escape the doldrums of everyday life, some play the become the most uber, leet member of their guild....etc. Regardless, this is still a game. I could careless if someone feels the need to purchase gold or buy an account with a high level character on it.
It's like my son, he'll go out and buy a console game for his 360, have it a couple of days and then he's off to the cheat sites so he can have unlimited ammo or invincibility. It kills me....whats the point? He purchased a game he could have enjoyed for week/months to come. Instead, he beat it in a couple days with cheats. The game is useless now. Same thing with mmo games, you purchase a high level character....now what? PVP? You missed the PVE part. I guess the whole thing seems kinda strange to me because it takes so much from the enjoyment of actually doing it yourself. I don't care....to each their own I suppose.

That was really two different questions: selling gold/itmes, and selling accounts.
For gold/items, I am against it fully. Not only are farmers a nuisance, but the buying of gold can have a negative impact on the ingame economy. Yeah, yeah, "it's my game and I'll pay the way I want," whatever. Except it's NOT just your game, it's all of our games. And your laziness by buying gold hurts the rest of us!
My vote is to burn you alive and sell your computer.
As for full accounts, I'm still against it, just not as strongly. The biggest problem with selling a high level character to somebody else, is that the buyer then SUCKS AT PLAYING THAT CHARACTER! Seriously, while everyone else was learning the ins and outs of their class, you just bought a high end character that you don't really know how to play. Reading faqs off the internet may give you the knowledge to play the class, but it cannot give you the wisdom that can only be gained through real experience.
Besides, why skip all that game content just to reach the "endgame?" That's like eating a piece of cake, without eating the delicious steak dinner that came before it.
In the end, I support whatever rules the gamemaker chooses in regards to this matter. And if they say no buying or selling, then I hope you get your account banned if you get caught. And I really hope you get caught.
Seriously.

I think both are wrong, but you guys are assuming that just because somebody bought an account that he will not know how to play.
In WoW we were in AQ40 and I play a Mage, but our #2 Warrior had to go and we needed him otherwise we wouldn't be able to advance, so I asked him if I could play his toon for the fight. He agreed and I logged into his account. I never played anything except an offensive caster in any game and they give me a quick 2 minute rundown on my main abilities and I never let the mob go. It was as if the guy was still on his warrior. Once you get to endgame it is pretty easy to figuare out other players classes. There are always helpful sites around that can help you learn it better along the way as well.
Your argument now is probably well if he has an end game toon already , why buy another? Maybe he/she doesn't like hers and wants to try something new but not start all over.
Again, I think it is wrong, what is the point of signing those agreements to play their game if you are going to ignore them? I do not condone selling of anything virtual, but you can see plenty of reasons why.
People that sell / buy accounts / items / gold / other shit should get their ass kicked big time!
Trading accounts? Meh, not a big deal in my book.
Someone selling their account? Against the EULA in most cases, whoever buys it is taking their chances. Beyond that, as long as I don't have to group with them, I don't care.
Buying gold/plat? Doesn't bother me much, either. More and more games are heading towards microtransactions anyway. Currently, most of them are the F2P Asian games, but it is beginning to trickle over here.
I don't totally buy into the belief that buying gold causes inflation, and destroys the economy. What's the difference between buying it from IGE, and just farming up the gold oneself? The economy of any given game, over time, will inflate, because there's constantly more money coming in than is going out. It's not a closed loop like it is in the real world where there is a finite amount of money in the system.
Personally I'm all for buying/selling/trading accounts. Item/gold selling I'm more ambivalent towards. But accounts is fine in my opinion. It allows you to get a new character to play after you got bored with yours without all the leveling all over again, or if you are quitting a game and played alot it allows you to recoup some of the costs of the game to move onto something else and allows another person to experience a high level account.
The whole but the person won't know how to play the character is silly. If that don't know how to play the character after 2 weeks then they wouldn't have learned how while leveling anyway. Playing any MMORPG character really isn't that difficult and can be easily learned.
Remember how much money and how many sites there where for buying gold and plat in daoc.....
oh...wait.. there werent that many.
This is becuse while money was great, it was not the driving force in the game for individuals. You could easily pvp to gain control of the special zone (Darkness falls) then farm enough gold in 1 day to last you for the next YEAR. I know I myself spent a full saturday pulling lower DF and my brother and I made 2 plat.
but gear never really cost you that much because crafted items where the best in the game and there was no inflation from NPC vendors. Spending 2 plat to upgrade from sword A ro sword B was not much of an effect on yoru charachter because all weapons had a caped DPS rate.
so money never ruled the game.
But Warcraft, weapons greatly enhance your charachters power and the amount of money you earn in a day cant really buy you much, so its exactly the opposite of daoc. This is why gold farming and buying gold is so widespread in wow.
This wont be a problem in warhammer i think. Kinda like gold farming is not a problem in guild wars. Games that base tactics and skill over itemization will have less problems with money.

to me they are pretty much one and the same.
I hate them both with a passion and I left EQ1 because of both of these reasons.
To me they are one and the same. Yes in a few cases you may want to trade your account to a friend but for the vast majority, this is just an easy way to get a lvled character, halfway decent gear, and maybe a little gold on the account.
Its lazy and it really goes against why I play MMOs, when an MMO starts everyone is equal, very seldom if ever, does the amount of RL money you have affect anything when you start an MMO. Everyone is equal and those who work harder get the better rewards.
Yet their are those to lazy or to 'busy' to actually play the game they buy, some people are so obsessed with having the best that even if a game is uber casual, they will still resort to sordid methods to have it. it does not matter that I spent hundreds of hours slowly getting what I have, they must have it now and have the excess cash to get it.
And if you allow account trading, well you are as good as saying gold buying is ok also. Whats to stop somenoe with an account full of gold to trade it to someone else and start the process over again... or better yet have them return the account after the gold has been removed.
In my opinion you cant have one without the other being a problem.
One of the reasons people play MMOs is because there is no 'cheat' code. You cant do something magic and then finish the game or suddenly get the best stuff in the game. Thats one of the draws, and saying well somepeople like to get to the good stuff is no excuse for that kind of lazy or selfishness.
Mythic may be for account selling (not surprising, really benefits them) and against gold buying/selling.
Right..ever see how much Plat is traded in DAOC right now? Unlike one poster said..it is quite prevalent, (and cheap actually) and Mythic does absolutely nothing to stop it. Maybe they just don't care anymore about DAOC, but I'm skeptical that they really understand the challenge they are up against....

Guild Wars 2 is my religion
Im not too hot on gold farming as it usually messes up the economy and raises prices etc.
As far as selling accounts why is that a problem?
Ive never personally bought an account in game but Im about to sell one and I dont see the problem with it.
So what the person didnt spend all the time in the world leveling that charachter...the buyer spent other forms of "TIME" making Real Life money and purchasing that account. null
It is frustrating because there is no indication of a players worth based on their achievement. The healer who ebay'd had better gear than the druid who was explaining every rank of every spells.
I would only agree with account buying/selling/trading if there was a way to determine who was buying/selling.
For example,
Frondor
<Happy Troopers>
<Purchased: 1/20/04>
Or
Sword of Happy Thoughts
Soulbound
Sword
1 - 2
Purchased: 1/23/02
or
/who Frondor
60 Fondor Paladin <Happy Troopers> <Purchased: 1/22/02>
Doktar - 70 Troll Priest - Perenolde
The problem is, if the game is popular (and we all know it will be) gold farmers are drawn to it as well as character levelers etc.
I just hope that the game developers can find a way to minimize the damage it will have on the in game economy.
Buying accounts:
Fine with me... the only thing I see causing troubles are envy. It's nice to think spending hundreds of hours on an online game makes you special, but it doesn't. I don't think that buying an account deserves the animosity of people, this is a person who either has the means to do so (usually because they have many other real life responsibilities - - far more important than your game devotion) and wants to experience the, typically more focused on, end material most game designers spend most of their time on. Another problem is that with the dynamic nature of an MMO, the developer often "changes the rules and/or abilities" at a later point and thus negates the customers expectations in the choices they make, and I don't like having to spend time grinding through content I have done multiple times, especially content that progressively takes more and more time due to changes beyond my control.
Oh and let me say, the excuses people are making to cover the envy of those with the resource to purchase accounts are quite lame. Playing a class well is not hard, even if you bought the character, at most it only takes a few weeks to fully understand and utilize the characters capabilities.... if it is for you, then perhaps you need to go back to checkers.
In regards to online purchasing of game currency? Please people, you know as well as I do that the games that are item driven have some sort of bind on pick-up limitations for the best gear. And those games that are skill driven, gear doesn't make the most substantial difference (if any).
I think if these issues are sticking in your craw, you need to take a step back and evaluate if a game is taking too much importance in your priorities. I would say that the answer will be yes.
Paul Barnett once said, "the most important thing about an MMO [...] is that it's not a computer game. What we're making is a total hobby experience. We want you to buy this game, and never buy another one. We want you to spend all your time playing it. We want it to involve skill, commitment, and imagination. [...] Imagination is, I've played the game, and then I want to talk about it, go onto websites, draw pictures about it, have tshirts. I want to think about what I'm going to do when I play next week. I talk to my friends all about it. [...] A hobby experience should grab you to the core of your being."
And I think that a large part of MMO players feel this way about these games. They become our primary source of entertainment. Our hobby experience. So, if these issues are popping up in our game, if we feel that people are "cheating" or making the game more difficult for the rest of us, then our anger is justified. Our priorities are just fine.
We're not saying these problems consume our lives. We don't pace around at work cursing at the gold farmers ingame. The world isn't ending because of these issues. We're just saying, in the context of the game, this sort of thing upsets us. And we don't want to play with buyers and sellers if we can help it.
Seriously.

Actually tons of people use cheat codes in tons of single player games they play. Do I? no. I do not choose to make the game easier than it already is.
As far as selling gold goes, I do not support it and I am against it. It ruind the in game economy among other things. However I see nothing wrong with selling ones account. Does it mean some joeschmoe gets a high level and doesnt know the first thing about playing his class....possibly. But does every player know how to play there high level character to begin with....no. Some people just dont have the time to play the damn game. Seems the only ones mad, are the ones who like to feel l337 and uberz.
