How is it

dargonightdargonight Member Posts: 255

I'm thinking of trying this game because i was looking at some videos about it and it looked pretty cool but i have a couple of questions.

  1. What is the community like?
  2. How big is the population and which sever is the most populated?
  3. With a SOE station acess acount can you play as many of there games as you want for one price because i was also thinking about trying SWG(having never played it before)?
  4. How big are the battle now a days?

Regarding the SoE station pass, you can play any game you can get a cdkey for, for instance, SWG, EQ2, EQ. But other games like MxO, Vanguard, you have to buy a cdkey first in order to play the game.

Planetside is a good game, definately worth giving a try, and will give you hours of enjoyment for sure. However, not every fella can play this game day in day out so it depends if its your cup of tea, try the trial, if your still playing by the end, buy it.

I tried the trial before but i had trouble figuring out what to do or where to go. Is there a guide or something that could help with that. Also, when i ended the trial, it continued to bill me.

This game is still fun, but it's definately not what it used to be.  I have trouble playing it still because if I don't like the battle I'm in, I can't go find another because there is only 1 battle going on at a time due to the lower population numbers.

There are training missions that reward experience and walk you thru the game mechanics.

I'm still loving it, this is one of those games that I have played off & on since beta and still enjoy.  The pops are definatly down but I run into big fights frequently still.

    How is it?

I came back from a long break. Left around the time they changed the BFR's the first time. Now when I came back it was great fun. Like playing a new game again. Then came CE and now I don't like it anymore. But that's not the only problem...

I can only speak about Werner server (Europe).

    • The population is not that bad on Werner. It's good in the morning, at day and at night. It never sleep. But when you check the squad list you see maybe 10 squads, most are closed. And most of them seems to be Russian. And they don't speak much it seems. It's great that they have found this game, when others left hehe.
    • Then there is a problem with the Empires. TR have the "biggest" but they are most stupid so even if they have 70% on a Cont, there is no problem and no need to get panic. VS have less population and become kind of weak and boring to play. NC have good population and they love to ghost hack bases and just be a pain in the ass.
    • And with this new CE update everyone seems to try it out. It's just a mess and will be like this for some weeks. Very boring. Ingame people I speak team with don't like it and on the forum some fanbois seems to love it. Not sure if that update is any good for PS. Myself I don't like it at all. I like the old CE better.
    • BFR's are still in the game. The GV sucks and the FV is not that much to fear. Pointless vehicle that could be something much more fun (for all). But then again, Devs + SOE = Bad. We all know that by now.

But hey try it out, you might like it. I closed my account again. It just maked me angry and there is no need to pay money for that.

Now this might be only me, because of my hatred of SOEs awful station flash sites for their games, but where exactly can the trial you speak of be found?

I don't think you can get it anymore after 24th Mars. It's been closed. If they bring it back I dunno.

For a year they had a program dubbed "Fodderside" where you could play up to battle rank 6 for free.  It recently ended.  My son still has his fodderside  acc'ount active  which he opened maybe a month ago.  Not sure when they'll turn it off.

    Edit:

I'm not a huge fan of the new CE stuff either but I think it will be fine once it is no longer "the new thing" and not everyone has it.  It does make some pretty intense base defense/attack battles though!  Since the CE changes and turret upgrades I've had a few great standoffs with vehicles trying to assault the base.

I played it and though it doesnt appeal to me it was entertaining for a while. I'm a loner and this game doesnt really benefit my nature. As for battles, my god, I have fought in the same battles for days, really. Huge epic battles are, or were, standard. But that was during the free trial period, perhaps the populations have trailed off, I dont know. I found even when the population was low, 3am to 8am...lol. I would always find some other loners like me capping bases and reeking general havoc. Many was the time when we would cap several entire planets while the others were nestled in their beds, with sugar plums dancing around their heads, and wake up to find they had nothing lol. Then we would run like hell, for when those massive Outfits came back on, then the battles would rage, I'm talking huge body counts. I'm not hamming it up for the post, thats was really the experience. Try it, I'll bet you'll like it, I just hate Sony.

    1) Community is OK. Depending on who you meet it can range from A-holes (usually soloers) to great people (usualy in outfit).

    2) Dont know which server has biggest pop but Emerald is almost always locked on one cont and semi-locked on 1-2 others.

    3) yes, but u still need to buy the game so if u never tried SWG u have to buy the box and then (after free 1st month) play with station access.

    4) can be big and small. Theres always at least one HUGE battle, and there are usualy several small ones (ghosthackers, outfit special forces, etc). The new CombatEngineering upgrades did make defense a bit more easier, so defenders have better chances to defend against  attacking forces that are in greater numbers ( battles last longer ). I think its good that new CE stuff isnt so popular - you wont be spammed with overpowered traps/mines/turrets. Just like everything else it is well balanced and fits well into the game. Key choke points can be trapped to block armor spam long enough to bring reinforcements. It doesnt bring a whole new level of gameplay to PS, but it does shake things up a bit . I only wish they do things like this more often.

I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

1.) In-game: mostly very helpful, a few ego-maniacs (it comes with the FPS territory).  On the forums: idiots and assholes, for the most part.

2.) The population is about 1000-2000 people on in prime-time.

3.) Yes, a station account (now $30 a month, or the price of two MMOs) will allow you to subscribe to any and all games.  But, you must first buy the game itself (PS is about $10-20, while Vanguard is $50).

4.) I'd say about 80-100 against the same per big fight.  One big fight per map, two smaller fights per map.

MMO games played or tested: EQ, DAoC, Archlord, Auto Assault, CoH, CoV, EQ2, EVE, Guild Wars, Hellgate: London, Linneage II, LOTRO, MxO, Planetside, SWG, Sword of the New World, Tabula Rasa, Vanguard, WWIIOL, WOW, Age of Conan

I just love this game, this was the game that got me in to the MMO games :). If you are going to start playing it look up the "Wild Cat Milita"  and say hi from JoyBoy .

First time I played this game was back in beta. Oh dear god were those battles epic... I fell in love with the game instantly. It was the game I'd always wanted... many hours I should have been doing homework were used (not wasted) playing this game. I specifically remember one instance where I was playing TR and a CR5 actually did something intelligent for once He got 2 Galaxy's loaded up and had a bunch of armor pulled off of other bases to attack the NC controlled capitol. Then while the NC was busy with the armor, we pulled a surpise drop on the roof of the base and then split into two teams, one tubes and one CC. Sweetest battle EVER.

Still, even after all these years, I think to myself once in awhile, "Man, I'd love to play some PS right about now." This is the game I always come back to. I can't say that about anything else, not even Starsiege: Tribes... my 2nd favourite game of all time No, seriously guys... I dream about this game. Good old days with the NC... NC cloakers were my favourite. They were 'special' :P

Two things dealt massive blows to it though... one was Oshur and the crap they've pulled there... the other was BFRs. Big, clumsy, customizable targets really... I would have been happier with slightly customizable heavy tanks. And for god's sake, improve the TR's AA! Meh, the glory days are gone. Pops are down so low there's rarely more than one large battle on Emerald. And SOE wants to raise the prices AGAIN Forget it, I'll put my money somewhere else. I suggest you do the same... but were it maybe 2 years ago... I wouldn't have said the same thing.

I've also had problems with the billing. When they used to have a free trial i tried i and after i quit, they kept on billing me. Have they fixed this. Also, i had trouble figuring out the game. Are there any turtorials that can help me with this?
  • xSSxxSSx Member Posts: 128
I have never had any billing issues over the past 2 1/2 years I have been using my CC with them. Maybe you just forgot to cancel the sub before it continued. If you are afraid of their billing techniques I suggest getting a game card so that won't happen to you, they're avliable at Best Buy and Gamestop. As far as a tutorial for the game there is training missions in the game. Just open up the user panel and it will have training missions tab and that should be enough for you.

Those game cards (for all SOE products) are getting harder and harder to find.  I've seen one in the past four months.
