Real life brings repetition and pointlessness too. The only thing real life offers is Great graphics. Its kinda expensive too and way to dependent on the cash shop. Totally pay to win as well. No thank you. Ill stick to my games.

Well im not in the LoTR beta but i will probably give it a try. EQ2 has almost run its course for me after over two years of playing i think i might be needing something new. Hopefully LoTR will be enjoyable for me otherwise i have to pin my hopes on WAR or AoC.
If none of these work out for me i would probably find myself sticking with EQ2 as its still the best one ive played to date.
I got into the lotr beta but meh, the game just isnt for me.
It felt like a giant step backwards from the mmos i have been playing, back to WoW-land, only lite- version.
But I am sure there are plenty of people that like thier mmos nice and simple
The combat is really weak. It's pretty....
I'll be staying with EQII.

No decision for me. I am a mmorpg fanatic but I am disciplined and only play 2 games at a time. It is always hard to decide which two I will play. Since EQ2 came out, it has been what game will I play with EQ2. So far it has been EQ2/SWG, EQ2/WoW, EQ2/DDO, EQ2/GW, EQ2/CoH and now it is EQ2/LOTRO. I will be playing both. I have been in beta for lotro since nov. and I love it. The game play is different enough from EQ2 that I do not feel I am playing the same type of game.
So it is easy for me the answer is I will be playing both. I quess if you were playing only one it depends on what you are looking for. If only one is your choice I would gear you towards EQ2 unless you are a big fan of LOTR. EQ2 is a well established game with tons of content available from all the expansions out. However LOTRO is a very well polished game. It will be one of the most polished MMOs at release to date. I probably have not helped with your decision on which to play. If you play both you will get a different experience from each of them.
EQ2 is very casual friendly. I play EQ2 only a couple hours a day at most. I am also a solo player and have soloed two characters to level 70 which is the level cap in less then a year. One of those is a ranger which is a tough class to solo. Anyone who says EQ2 is for only hardcore and not solo freindly are liars or have not played the game.
I also am a fan of player housing and was disapointed LOTRO will not have housing on release. Although developers have said housing may come I am prepared to face the fact like WoW LOTRO may never have player housing. I feel player housing is a must in mmorpgs now. I really hate living on the streets. If WoW had some form of housing and collectable for them I would probably still be playing. Even without housing LOTRO is a fantastic game.
The Tigers are called Kerrans. They really look great. My avitar here, as you see with this post, is my Kerran Occe. It was taken from a screenshot in game so you can see the high quality of the characters. I have a large manor house in eq2 and spend a lot of time decorating it. Next to SWG, EQ2 has the best collectable house items out.

Or maybe they played at launch and never looked back. It is a very different game nowadays. I love EQ2 and I have decided to keep my station access to be able to play both VG and EQ2, but I will also play LOTRO, mainly because I am a huge LOTR fan. I am also in the beta and I find the game a tad bland, but it is very very polished and the story quests are great.
You could run raids for a month and never see any of the class gear, it pretty much sucks and thats where the time sink comes in.. They attempt to keep you paying for as long as possible.. I can confidently say, I started raiding (EOF) on a defiler in November-Jan, took some time off, raided this past week again, and still never saw anything worthwhile for my class. We're talking 9 weeks of raiding @ 4 hrs a raid, 2 zones a night = 4hrs roughly.. I find no joy or satisfaction in that at all... Plus I hated playing my class outside of raids, so him getting uber gear was no big deal anyways.. It is probably just my class though. I'm sure if I was a necro or some other dps class I might find a new spark or interest, but playing the same class day in and out for 8 months pretty much bores me now and rolling new toons to get to the end game just takes too damn long imo.. I bitched and moaned about the first grind to 70.. Getting other classes up there is another 6 months grind aswell..
Too many people say that eq2 is too easy to grind, but I have to disagree. Its one of the worst grinds ever mainly because the combat system isn't all that exciting. I could dual master classes in swg in 2 weeks and be in the end game quick, if it got boring on a certain hybrid setup, it was about 1 week to change 1 master class.. It never felt like a grind, and when one class got boring I could easily attain another...
Eq2 is just one big grind and LOTR offers no immersion..
Go with EQ2. LOTRO gets boring quickly.
I hated EQ2 the characters looked like crap and the zoning every 5 seconds in town was too much. If I had to choose an EQ it would be classic not EQ2.

People make way to much out of zoning in EQ2. First this post is right in the 2 cities Freeport and Qeynos there is to much zoning in my opinion. However 99% of the game takes place outside those cities and each area is a zone but those areas are huge. Note they are zones not instances. You do not feel like you are in a little box as some have said. Also I have timed my zoning since I have read posts saying it take 30 seconds or more to zone. Maybe if you have a crappy system and a poor connection. I timed all the major zones as I zoned into them and the average zone time for me was 3.5 seconds hardly long enough to draw you out of the immersion.
Much of the critizism of EQ2 comes from people with systems and internet connections that are not good enough to enjoy EQ2 fully. Character do not look like crap they are probably the best in anny mmo out. Again you need to have a sysytem able to max out the graphic much like vanguard you can lower your graphic setting but they look like crap on lower setting. Some games as you lower settings the game runs better but does not look that much worst then higher settings, LOTRO is one of those. EQ2 is not one of those you have to have graphic almost maxed anything less the game does look bad. However if you got the system then EQ2 is one of the best looking fun mmos out.
Both EQ2 and LOTRO are poor choices, but if I had to pick one, I would go with LOTRO.
EQ2 has more instancing. EQ2 has zoning. EQ2 is an older game. Most of the players are high level because EQ2 doesn't draw in many new players so the lower level zones are empty. EQ2 lost 50% of it's playerbase since release. EQ2 had a buggy release and has changed drastically since launch which has created many imbalances.
LOTRO is more solo friendly. LOTRO is polished and ready for release. LOTRO has a big following and will have a healthy playerbase especially in the lower level zones. LOTRO has a better combat system. LOTRO has a better storyline.
Actually I didn't really like EQ2, and never tried playing it again since I first played it.
LOTRO was really fun during the first weeks, and I thought that a quest-based game would be sweet to keep me hooked for a while, but I guess me and my friend got bored within 2 weeks or so.

What ?!?! If EQ2 characters looked like crap wich game characters you prefer?
Well, I really hate to diss on a person's game of choice. In the end it really comes down to personal preference.
However, I have a few lower lvl EQII characters (highest being lvl 27) and after playing EQ II Off an On since it was released (I just never got into it) I am going to avidly play Lord of the Rings.
If you compare the two games you come to realize that they are very different games. LOTRO is more sublime and understated. EQ II is more "harry potterish"... quite frankly (and this is where I have to offer apologies) I find EQII tacky and over the top. It just seems like a mishmash of high fantasy content with characters that look like they are made of clay. But that is just my opinion based on my aesthetic sense.
Also, we need to remember, LOTRO is still in closed beta. And as I've posted elsewhere, this is a real beta. They have made many changes since beta 1 (and prior from what I have heard). Heck, they are opening up a new land area today. The crafting they are still working on as well as still tweaking the economy.
Sure, there is no housing, but quite frankly, (and even though the developers have said they will be adding housing) I don't really see housing as being an essential part to the LOTR story.
If you are looking for a game that is steeped in lore and consistency, that has a beautiful world, fun quests (as well as some not so fun) where you can play your own music (or ignore those who you don't want to hear) and will be updated by not only "expansions" but also very regular content updates, then LOTRO might be for you.
If you are looking for a somewhat eccentric and whimsical world that has quite a few choices regarding race/class and that is mature in what it offers (since the game has been out for a while) then EQ II might be for you.

EQ2 may be bad, but LoTRO is worse.
No, LotRO more like WOW than GW's.... but actually stands on its own as different from both....

I tried the LOTR beta, and while it has a few interesting features, overall it seemed pretty shallow compared to EQ2 or EQ.
But I only played it for a couple of weeks, so no idea if it is any better past level 15 or so.
are you even playing LOTRO? You have to zone every time you go through a door...

Im currently beta testing Lotro, and i can honestly say.. It's incredible near wow, both in the whole quest system, interface.. But. Its tolkien, the stories are amazing.. I was spellbinded by it the day i started playing.. And sure, if you enter a door you zone.. but its better than having instance outdoors like Gw.. And you spend more time outdoors than in dungeons and such.. And the loading time is like what? 10seconds at top even with my computer that is out of date. I havent played Eq2 yet, but classic is close to my heart.
