wow.. im really thrilled to see this news..

    really gets me excited..

and hopefully they will pick me for the 100,000 members..

note: i was hoping it will be open theme project.. but then again, they need to focus the theme they want to build, which is understandable.

my hat to you David Perry..

MyBrute = addicting mini online game!

This might be a good idea had this project not been based around a racing game, what makes a good racing game is 1. physics  2. graphics, neither of which they are asking these "participants" to help with.  If anyone has played "need for speed carbon" or "team revoluxion" you know that those games have horrible physics, making them no more realistic than mario kart and not as entertaining to compete against other people with due to it being some sad distortion of reality where you either drift by your back end, which is retarded(NFSCarbon), or that counter steering is impossible like team revoluxion and you cant even turn 90 going around a corner..

I agree that the time frame to be playing a finished title is way to short.  12 monthes or less?  Possible but doubtful.  Why rush a player-made mmo that is suppose to be the next big thing?  Acclaim is looking to capitalize that they were the first to release a player made mmo, and why not?   If the game is a big success it obviously looks good on the company.  If it is a big flop or doesn't even get released they can say "hey we tried."  Either way they win by taking a risk and trying to do something new. At least maybe they could get some fresh ideas and talent out of the deal.  All this is well and good, but I feel like I'm a cheerleader when that was not my intended purpose. I think this is a decsent idea that should be kept on the back burner for the time being and definatly should not be rushed if they want a good game.  I feel they should focus more on the titles they already have their hands in, 9dragons and 2 moons, before they get too involved in this project.  I know almost nothing about 2 moons, but i have tested 9dragons.  I understand its in testing stages, but it needs a lot of help if it hopes to do well in the mmo market.  Just my thoughts. Looking forward to following this story.

Hey everyone, new to the Forums but I'm ready to make a splash in this racing MMOG. I've got like 20 pages of notes, ideas, sketches and more for this project. I play a lot of Korean and Asian games that use the marketable game-play items so I've got a a good idea of how to tackle that aspect. Really excited to get started on this.

Oh BTW, you guys are all thinking quite narrow-mindedly. Who said we have to be in Vehicles???
  • bobfishbobfish Member UncommonPosts: 1,679
I suspect the engine is capable of doing whatever they need it to, not many 3d engines out there can't be modified :)

And agree with the above posted, who said it had to be vehicles, to be honest, if they can't make it feel like a car, they shouldn't use cars. So many racing games feel like you are floating across the ground, spoils it.

But, NFS is one of the most popular racing games out there, it may not be realistic, but it's good fun and I doubt they will go for realism anyways.. it doesn't sell.

Because no one can relate to riding around in karts or running along a track at break neck speeds, you think mario kart has the potential to be as big as something like normal car racing where there are already a ton of fans to cator to.  Lets face the facts, unless its a normal car racing game with drifting and drag racing it will not be popular enough to be groundbreaking, people like to pretend that they are hardstar street racers.

With that factored out theres no fan made ideas that will help a project such as this, people simply want realism, speed, and graphics.

Ok, answer me this then. Why does everybody have so much fun being a Super Cop in Crackdown and leaping from building to building? Another game that did surprisingly well was The Hulk: Ultimate Destruction. Personally, I don't see a Street Racing game coming out of this. I'm going to propose an idea:

A Futuristic Foot Race. In a randomly generated generic city, players will use short bursts of 7 different skills(Leap, Dash, Break, Tech, Dive, Leech and Ghost) to make it to the finish line. Leap allows a Player to jump a far distance, Dash is obviously a burst of speed, Break will enable the Player to barrel straight through a building instead of going over it or around it, Tech is the aid of technology such as jump packs or such other futuristic devices, Dive allows you to 'Dive' under ground for a time, coming up at an extreme angle and therefore giving you better distance, Leech is the skill you'll use when you want to catch a ride on another player(this is the least defined skill I've thought of right now),and finally Ghost, which is the ability to pass through walls. Before a race begins, Players will get to study, for a short period of time, a 3D model of the plane on which they'll be racing, which will allow them to flesh out a path to the finish line, and therefore decide what skills they'll be using. The race itself will have players Leaping up to a tall building, then Diving straight into the ground. Another player might decide to Ghost through a  building because if he used Break, the other Players would be able to follow him. Whatever skills they choose, Players will be engaged in Strategy, they'll be taking a Risk because the path they'd thought was fastest might not be, and it will obviously take Skill.

So that's what I'm working on.

I think it's got to have vehicles.. just for the fact it adds another level of customisation and things to sell in their item shop. :)

But I agree, bar the typo in my previous post, that it doesn't have to be cars.

I suppose only time will tell, however I think the vast majority like car racing games and whether acclaim has to shift the numbers or not it will end up being one.  Though your game idea sounds entertaining and would probably be awsome I dont think acclaim is actually taking as many chances as they make it out like they are.

Dont forget to post here if you find out anything more on the project, Im sort of curious now if it turns out I am infact wrong.

    They should start dumping Gameguard...

Now, some on topic. I think it's an unique idea and I hope it goes well... without Gameguard, logic...

'American Idol' is a perfect comparison.   Let's let a bunch of people take shortcuts into a field rather than paying their dues and learning the business through hardwork and effort.   (This applies to both American Idol and this contest)

At least this will be an entertaining train wreck to observe.

I'm actually becoming more interested in how this constest is going to be formatted.  Is there going to be eliminations or do the whole 100k people compete till the end and what's the timeframe if it looks like it's gonna take too long to get that number of people.

Also, it seems that the first "round" will be "What are we racing?".  I can't imagine that much development can get done when the "what" and "where" haven't been decided.  So is that the first test to stand out from the rest of the crowd?  I guess whoever gets that would be the front runner.

I'd like to see a ground based driving game like mixing elements of Gran Turismo and the former Motor City Online

I'm thinking along the lines of flight. Make use of the 3D world that these races are going to be in. You have a z axis use it :)

This idea is genius and groundbreaking. Having to ability to glean ideas and concepts from so many people from over the world is going to be a great boon to this game.

The only caveat I see is that the paid members of the team might not be able to sift through all the forums and notice the good ideas that are there. This will be a taunting task indeed considering the large amount of people involved, 100,000, that is insane!

The racing concept was at first an odd choice as a genre, but after some thought I came up with an exciting idea for a game that revolved "around" the racing theme that would be fun to play. Since it is the players of these games that are coming up with ideas it will make it more likely the game will be fun to play.

Looking forward to seeing this thing develop using this format.

Good luck to that team, but i'd never try and make some one elses game. hope it works out tho.
  • visgrailvisgrail Member Posts: 6

I was very excited about this concept when I heard it too. Then I got the email that the game was going to be a Racing MMO ... that may be the dumbest idea for an mmo I've ever heard of.
