Sweet graphics, but that's about it. It's Rune multi-player... but at least Rune had a better fighting sys. There is nothing very innovative about it. For some odd reason I thought the fighting would actually be real-time and not his turn based stuff (when they aluded it would be skilled based and would avoid lvling), infused with what they call "strategy", by clicking on your skills to unleash "special attacks". I don't really care how far away it's from being shipped, and that there is so much they haven't added in yet, at it's core this game is only about fighting and the fightings blows, hell City of Heroes' system is much more exciting.

Uh city of heros is the exact same combat system, go figure, theyre made by the same company. If you want point and click diablo type fighting, go play diablo.

Um..I think you need to login again and take another look at the game, cuz you are way off.
The combat is NOT turn based.
It is innovative in the sense that you can't go out with all of your skills for a mission, you need to pick the best 8 skills to work with your group and/or missions needs.
There are numerous special attacks that are far different than I have seen in any MMO thus far.
The is basically a cross between Diablo 2 and Magic...and the graphics are incredible.
I think you are biased for some reason, but this game is going to do very, very well.
Exilio hit it right on the nose, it doesnt seem like you are playing the same Guild Wars
It is not a "true MMORPG" we all know that by now, but i like this better, a few years ago, hey, even a few months ago, I would have found this too Un-MMORPG-like. But since life is busy, I find it great to be able to sit down, and have some fun without taking a half an hour walking to the nearest town. Ive played the "true MMORPGs" and I would still play them now if I had the time, but frankly, I don't and many people will love this game for that very reason.
I agree, that if it was turn based, it would suck, but its not even close to turn based, so it doesnt suck ^_^
Lol, I thought this too. When people mentioned the game is based more on "skill" I didn't asume they meant it literally as "skills". I was wrong I guess, but it's preety much like a wizard magic match being primarly based on magic. Guildwars seems is fun for me but the interface is horrible as are the shortcuts, and the glow engine looks great standingl still but when you move it gets ugly.
Ramadin, GW and CoH are made by different devalopers, both publish by NCsoft. And the combat system is totally different.
I'm looking foward in GW. The Demo is very limited. I'm a little dissapointed in the cambat system. I thought it's going to be more action oriented like CoH, but I guess I was wrong. I won't judge the game yet, I'll wait for the beta to open and try it again. Right now, I'm not very impress yet.
Wha? The combat system in GW and CoH is identical. I know, Ive played em both.

Looks bland, feels bland and plays like ANOTHER asian MBORPG (Massively Bland Online Repetative Game)
Looks like L2 / RYL crap. Flashy spells arent all there is to great graphics.Theres no "meat" to these games graphics. You can get the feeling they are computer game graphics. Many years ago in EQ and even UO ,even though the graphics werent fantastic ,I still forgot that it was a game ,as such ,while playing them. The new mmos are all the same bland souless crap.
Play GW ,RYL and L2 and be hard pushed for someone to tell they arent same game (unless yer a fan or online game follower etc). CoH is a breaker in that it looks a bit diffrent and feels diffrent.
NEXT !
My First Impression of Guild Wars was avg. Graphics were spectacular, gameplay as about same as other MMORPG's more action overall, faster paced, but not as immersive and not as MMO as pay-to-play ones.
Last night, I decided to enter the world of Guild Wars 1 more time, after the frustrating first day I played (I hardly played the second day).
I did some solo questing, and was amazed by the size of the solo areas, and how they linked to parts of the world and corresponded to the map. I also liked the safe-zones where travellers gathered.
Then my friend logged on and I figured out that the DISTRICT is an instanced area of the game, as we were able to finally meet up easily and quickly and play togther (something we couldnt figure out the first day and thought the game was bugged and the servers were split).
We finished the remaining quests and tried some PVP. All very very fun.
The onboard messaging system and friends list works amazingly well. I just love how you have a mailbox of messages. So cool. I wish the Knight Online beta had the same.
I was about to log off at 3 am, when someone said it was possible to charm a lynx and since I was Warrior- Rogue blend I set off to see if it was true.
4:30 am I went to bed, but sure enough I have a lynx charmed
I will definately be buying this game. The alpha is awesome. Some people in game were saying theywould pay for the game in its current state, and I would too. $40 for Guild Wars with multiplayer replay value? You get more out of it how it is now than the majority of games released. More playing hours and more fun.
I cant wait to see what the beta or trial version looks like 6 months from now.
I must say, I liked the game a lot, as you did, and I do see the immersive issues that is more present with some pay-to-play MMORPGs. However, I wouldn't pay much for the demo. Maybe $10, but that's it. I just can't wait till there is beta, and of course, when it comes out...
Unless they totally make it bad, I will be buying this when it comes out...
GW is nothing like RYL or L2, whoever said it is has lost their mind.

I played all 3 days and tried out many different styles. I love the single player and co-op stuff. But I hate the PvP. In this version at least, PvP seems to boil down to a lot of chaos and luck. There is some skill and strategy involved, but very little. It's run and attack somebody and hope everything comes together and things work out for you.
Also seemed to be who had the best skills that did the most damage. So level will help a lot in some cases. So I say yay to the coop and solo hunting. But BOOO to the PvP. PvP was just not that fun, very little substance. Just attack somebody and hope a bunch don't attack you, that's about it.
I realize this is pre Beta so I'm hoping something may change. But I don't know how much they can change, I don't see how they could change the core of the PvP. And it is the core that's the problem. This isn't some little fix. I just dont' think this is a good game for PvP. It's just not that fun.

Asheron's Call
im going to take the safe idea and assume most of you didnt make it to the 5th co-op mission.
That mission took my team more than and hour or two, it was hard.
I think there was 2 fights where we could jsut run in and fight
This game has more strategy than I have every seen in real time rpg before.
In the beggining its not as hard becuase they dont want to overwhelm you, but once you get further it gets a LOT harder, and it takes a lot fo strategy.
A lot of people seem ot be complaining about the 8 skill limit, not able ot change thing cause you only use one set of skills.
Maybe you do, but soon your gona hafta start changing, some missions enemies have different weaknesses than in others.
in some games, that little bit of damage dont matter, but in GW, it makes all the difference.
Also somtimes you have to adapt to the level, in some i had to take more slective skills, like antidote in missions where nmes poisoned me every 5 seconds.
or in some I had to take more quick damage skills, so I could deal with the nmes, or mass damage skills.
You have to adapt to the game, and change your plans often, and many people are not used to that.
after 6 or so years, I had to change it a little...

They are not made by the same company. Arenanet made GW. Cryptic made CoH. They have the same publisher is all.
Furthermore Ive played both games, and the combat systems are nothing alike. The similarites lye in the fact that you press buttons in both games......and thats where any similarity ends. In GW you click on your target - and thats when you become a spectator. Your toon automaticaly runs over to your target and auto attacks. Then you can basicaly hit number keys till the skills you want to use go off. I was just sitting there hitting 2 and 3......and then click on next target.
Overall I liked the game. The graphics go without saying - but the quests you went on....it reminded me of a single player game. Told a story, lots of interaction with the enviorment (combat not included), very linear in design. I thought it was quite brilliant.
Basically Im just gonna wait till beta to see what theyve got. If they spruce up the combat and give the player more control (and more to do) then Id by the game.
