Post subject: What character builds are there?
Edit/Delete this post

I just started playing the game and the skill descriptions do not make any sense to me. I always play P2P Western games, so I am unfamilliar with how this game works. Im used to there being the 4 basic classes Caster/Tank/DPS/Rogue.

With SRO, it is all different it seems. There seems to be many different buids with their foundation being full Int or Str builds or a hybrid. I have no idea what the benefits of Int, Str, or Hybrid is or their weakness. So my first question is, what are the pros and cons of making a full Str or Int character or a Hybrid character? I have a lvl 2 character and he wields a sword. I plan to stay as a sword wielder if that helps.

Next, I see that you shouldnt spend points in so many skills or you gimp yourself. Ive read that the rule of thumb is around 3-4 skills. If I am a sword user, what skills should I concentrate on? I have no idea how I want to play my character, because I dont know what play options I have to begin with. As I said before, in western games I know that if I roll a caster, I will be either playing as a defensive caster buffer, healer or a offensive caster debuffer, DPS. I am playing a sword and shield wielder, which in most games means I would be a tank, but I see that this game offers me the luxury of choosing many different things, but I read that a sword user would best benefit by being full Int. What does that mean? That I will be a caster?

I do understand that there is a triangular system in place where the trader is attacked by a thief, which in return is attacked by a hunter. But I am unaware how your 3-4 skill choices are used against others in game.

If anyone has any advice on what I should do as a sword and shield wielder, please post below.

Theres more then just Str/Int in char builds.

    Weapon and magic too.

    Bow, Glaive, sword.

    Lighting, Fire, Cold, Healing.

You can go pure physical with a weapon, or add magic damage to the weapon attacks, or pure magic.

Branch out too much and your lvls aren't high enough.  Don't branch out enough and you can't solo....some mobs wont be damageable.

In Silkroad, you could go three ways for character builds: ALL STR, ALL INT, or Hybrid of str and int

ALL Strength(Tankers): This build is where you put ALL of you stat points into str, not a single one into int. So you will have lots of HP. This build is similar to you warrior fare where youll do most damage on weapon skills. I suggest you use Blade or Glaive for this build since those weapons are stronger physically.  A pure str character will have good physical def and attk but they will have low magic defense. You compensate for this players usually wear garments.

ALL Intelligence(Dmg dealers): This build is where you put ALL of your stat points into int. not a single one into str. You will have lots of MP but your Hp will be low. This build is similar to magicians or magic dealers. I suggest you use a sword or spear for this build since those weapons are stronger magically.  A pure int character will have hi magic attk power and hi magic def but low phys attk and def. Pure ints main attacks will be nukes which are Lv.30 skills in the force trees (fire, light, cold) Pure ints could also use weapon skills effectively

Hybrids: builds that use allocate both str and int. Usually most good hybrids are int heavy hybrids. If your going this way dont do a 2 int 1 str hybrid, but rather focus on your magical balance percentages. 83-87% is good for hybrid.

In you case, since you want to continue to with a sword, i suggest you go pure int or hybrid int. Similar to caster. You skills should be focused around force trees such as Fire or lighting as those trees are best for magic users. Get the fire imbue(fire river force) and for lighting make sure you get the magic increase buffs. Also, get some bicheon sword skills which will help you lvl in the beginning like the smashing series and 3 hit chain. Another note, Dont get the healing force, they are pretty much useless as pots and pill easily replace them.

I've gotten a lot of advice between here and the main forums and I thank you. From what I've read, I'd be better off going Blade and Shield so I can be effective in PvP, which is why I want to play this game. What skills are good for a melee character? I mean aside from getting all of the Blade skills. I was thinking I should get the self heal from the Force line, so I'd be kind of like a Paladin, but I would also like some other magical skills if I'd actually have a use for them. Such as some buffs and a magic attack I can pull with for those tricky situations. I guess I need a way to round off a solid tanking character by having a way to self heal, root, and buff myself up.

    Thank you

Other skills you should get besides the bicheon trees is fire, lighting and cold (if you want)

    For fire:

Fire river force - adds fire attribute to you attacks

flame body wisdon- increase physical attk dam

fire shield phoenix- not a good skill at lower lvls, good for pvp

basic fire protection - mag def buff

pasive (the last skill in the skill tree) - increase phys attk dam

Dont get fire wall skill and dont get the nukes(flame arrow) only useful for int chars

For lighting ( dont get lighting imbue you only need one which would be fire)

Must-Piercing - increase mag attk dmg

    grasswalk flow - increase speed

    concentration - increase parry ration

    passive - increae parry ratio

You cold get cold which is optional but you would have to do a bit more farming to get enough sp.

the physical defense buff and passive are good cold skills dont get the ice wall or cold wave arrest

If your heading towards the pure str route i suggest you dont get ANy of the magic skills as they would be very weak, remmber, you have low magic attack power.

I highly suggest you shouldnt get the force tree line, even thought you want to be like a paladin. The problem is, the skills in the Force tree are slow and waste a lot of time and SP, which could be used for more important skill trees. There are pots and pills which work faster and much faster. Even though using the force tree would save gold because you have healing skills with you they a hassle to use. They have long cast times and casting them in and out between battles would interrupt the speed of your grind, whereas pills and pots dont require much maintence since there is an auto-pot feature (press T on Keyboard) In order for Force to be effective, you have to continually ugrade them and eventually the higher tier of pots will out do them

That is pretty much what I came up with, except I was going to go Fire and Force, but what you suggest is sound. I guess I will forgo learning Force and instead learn those few lightning skills. Thanks for the help.

well u could go for hybrid or pure int nuker fire for glaive if u want to.

force is useless in pvp so ingnore the force skill and pump most of the skill either on fire and lightning.

ice is some what useless just freeze the enemy and will get even harder to lvl up if u go for ice glaiver.

try use ice on bow stat character. works well in range attk to slow down enemy in attk speed and moving speed.

Thanks for the help, but I ended up quitting the game. It was aggravating not being able to play when I wanted to, which is during the day USA EST. I decided to just continue playing P2P games where I am guaranteed a server to play on. Again, thanks for your help.
