mage fact IMO

IMO, totaly IMO so don't be to critical. . .

Frost is now becoming a major role in many ways. I've been using it effectively now fora bit, and still working kinks out but its become my favorite build. In PvE its extreamly useful and effective. Even mobs which are immune to freeze and slows generaly don't resist the dmg. Which means you get effectively the same dmg as fire builds, but it just takes more casts to reach it. But however you effectively are not using as much mana, so your staying power is increased alot more. Plus, in PvE Frost can build to higher crit amounts which can let you bypass fire's dmg most times. This is what i've noticed atleast.

For PvP side of things, while fire has a couple more instant cast or fast cast spells, Ice still has over all more effectiveness. PvP is not always about strait killing, its about ability to hender, slow, and force players to take alternate paths to reach thier goals. In WSG, ice is a staple factor in defending the flag, and even more of a factor in running flags back. Ice berrier and mana shield combos to be the mainstay of mage flag runners along with blink. Also, in AV and AB, frost builds win out due to lower mana useage and you generaly are not one on one in fights, you team up and work together to reach a goal so your slowing, freezing, and ability to have lower mana use rate will give you and edge.

Now is where people start saying how powerful fire is, and why its so much better... Well, I'd be willing to bet a frost mage who knows thier setup will outlast a fire mage almost everytime. Why? Because frost while dealing a little less upfront dmg, gives back to your ability to ward and shield yourself from dmg longer. Making you have staying power.

In no way am I saying its totaly better. I'm just pointing out that Frost vrs. Fire are over all equals. Arcane is a whole new area and doesn't really compare to either of these for pvp. Its more focused twards PvE, in offering you the use of all the base frost and fire spells with mana conservation and utility effects. Counterspell, mana shield, mana regen while casting, resistance reduction and clearcasting ability. But in whole it won't outlast fire or frost builds in PvP so isn't commonly used for this. It does have its own place though and those who learn to use it well, do extremely well in thier own way.

Fire vs. Frost is a playstyle difference, I've found, more than anything else.

Scorch shatter for high dmg and low mana use.  Lots of crowd control for pvp, and I keep my ice barrier, ice block and cold snap for survival.

The duo is working better then a straight frost or fire build ever did for me.

...there's this build my friend is using, mainly Frost build but heaps the rest to Fire, which mainly gives him enough fire power to blast escaping mobs/players after whittling them down using frost spells.
