Help me out guys!! (MMO picking)

I've played WOW off and on for the past 2 years and I'm bored of the same old, same old.  I also dont really want to go back now because of the expansion, which imo ruins it somewhat.  Anyways, I love PVP, and i love how WOW does PVP with the battlegrounds, those are what got me coming back to the game time and time again....

I played EQ2 for a bit, but the pvp wasnt much of a turn on for me...played some of city of heroes/villians, but it seemed like the pvp was kind of barren when i was trying out the arena and whatnot.  Played FFXI, and that doesnt really have much of pvp other then besieged.  Also played the original guild wars, and yes it has arena combat, but now i really dont feel like throwing over 150 to buy the expansions....and i dont really like how closed the world feels.

Anyways...what MMO can i get that does PVP pretty much like WOW with battlegrounds/arenas that you can just jump in, not really be penalized, and have fun...while still having all of the other elements of an MMO..questing, leveling, crafting...etc etc.   Been doing some research, and Lineage II comes close, but it sounds like its pretty hardcore in the grind category, and it seems as if all of the pvp revolves being in a guild and whatnot...im not even really sure if there is actually arenas?  Anyone have any ideas, i just cant seem to figure it out

    If I were you I would just get into trials for every game you are interested in first, that way you can experience it yourself. That is what I did and now I am just playing games until Age of Conan comes out later this year. Warhammer may interest you as well, but that comes out end of this year, early next year. Good luck in whatever game you choose but I sorely reccomend getting trial keys before you purchase them.

    yeah, I am definitly interested in WAR, Gods and Heroes, and The Chronicles of Spellborn...but I want to have something until then.  I have played a few trials, but idk.  I was really interested in vanguard at first, but there is quite a bit of bugs still and it was killing my computer lol

    Have you tried the free MMOs like Granado Espada and the like? Maybe beta testing a game would suite you? They usually keep me pretty entertained while waiting for a game to play.

    Well, since you seem to be emphasizing PvP so much, I would have to throw out Dark Age of Camelot. It is a pretty standard MMO that has seen dwindled numbers as of late, but is pretty PvP intensive and most people that play the game, do it for the RvR PvP action. You would just have to get passed the empty starting areas.



    When it comes to the future of MMOs...Fury is supposed to be ONLY PvP, The Chronicles of Spellborn is supposed to revolutionize PvP and whatnot, and Age of Conan can do the same with it's new action based combat. So you could just wait around for those games.

    yeah I've thought about DAOC before, but i wonder how long it takes to get past all of the deserted lower areas, before i  would get into the pvp action. 

    bah  i wish some of these other mmos would come out sooner hehe

    I would have to say that Age of Conan will be the mmo to beat in 2007 hands down. Age of Conan is finally something that is a different change of pace, it is not a game with dwarves, orc's, and gnome's. It is also very pvp heavy.

    Some may not agree with me,.But if you love the BG's in WOW then guildwars is your game.It shares some of the same things.Guildwars however is not gear dependent,.but it is skill dependent,.So a bit of the grind is still there.

    Crafting is not as good as wow,.But then im not sure if wow is any better,.as most items in both games you just make for your self anyway.Questing in GW has the same deal as wow in a sence,.do them all a few times an there boring,.but GW has a thick storyline I found to be cool.

    In the end the only thing that matters to a pvper is the deep and unpractible tactics in character builds,.And yes,.Guildwars has some vary vary good pvp,.when you win or own or what ever you want to call it,.you know it was you, and not your gear or lvls.

    Lineage 2 can be good at high lvls,.but grinding to that point is 10 times worse then wow and the game has so many bots its hard to stay intrested.

    Go to AgeofConan.com and apply for their montly newsletter and in the mail they have special deals for you to win a spot in the beta when it opens up.

    AoC is currently in a closed beta stage right now of mostly Funcom and close friends. They have stated in their forums that there will be a beta signup sometime soon, but they give no indication on what they mean by soon. Also as Whitedelight said above. If you signup for their monthly newsletter they have a monthly drawing for three randomly chosen people to get a beta spot when they actually get to more of a somewhat open beta.
