Concerned

Hey guys,

I joined a guild on opening day and now we have 40 members.  Only problem is that none of them have logged in the last week and some over 3 weeks.

I am the only one who plays it seems.

Anyone else seeing this problem?

yup, I unsubscribed from vanguard just today. Its not worth 15 bucks to play a game that really is still just beta.

Depends on the server and how far the guild is. My guild is made up of around 35 active members of level 25-32 guys so they tend to stay on when I am on. I will be one of those people who do not log on once Age of Conan starts beta testing though ^_^.

Just from what you said its hard to really draw a conclusion.  My guild is a similar size, around 44 I think, and I've noticed a pretty big dropoff in the number of guildies playing, but the reasons are pretty obivious.  My guild is a start up guild, with no voice comm, website, or any out of game communications.  We were made up of people between lvl 10 to 17 when I joined, so we had a lot of people trying the game out for the first time-  some probably quit, others may have seen classes they would rather play and rolled something else, others were probably turned off by the PvP and moved servers.

I didn't doubt when I joined that the odds weren't in the guilds favor of lasting.  What I expected really was that some of the people would form into a real core and start recruiting again later, merge with other guilds in similar situations, or not last at all and go our own ways.  That may sound callous, but its a ton of work to build a real solid guild, and the odds of it just happening by throwing together a random group of people who don't even know the game yet much less each other are pretty bad.

What I've tried to pay attention to is general population around me, but due to the games size thats a hard thing to judge.  At level 15 I was on thestra around the areas west of halgarad, and I was 100% sure shadow was outnumbered by order by 10 to 1, the area I was adventuring in seemed very empty of players, and often there were literally more Order players griefing there than shadow players questing etc.  Now that I've been on Qalia for a while population seems pretty healthy all around, but I don't know what the area was like 3 weeks ago.

so it could be that the population has dropped off, but it could be a ton of other things just as well-

    your guild is folding

your server is a lower pop

your spending time in an area that most avoid for whatever reason-  I know thatshappened to me.

    etc etc

Well that can't possibly be the issue; Brad himself stated the game is growing!  They have very high retention levels!

You can have low population servers silly. WoW is growing and has 8.5 million subscribers yet it has a bunch of low population servers.

I think he was referring to the fact that their drains are clogged, and the bullshit is beginning to back up?

To start and end with a personal attack. . . You joined an opening day guild - Was this one the guilds that posts over broadcast "Forming a guild, PST for invite to group and you can become a leader" lmao or the one where they invite you and then tell you to find more people to join the guild. . . .judging by your post you joined one of those run of the mill unorganized noob guilds.

Nice try.  And nice pile on by trolls creating yet another new forum account to say they quit with their 10th different user ID.

Well, I joined an organized guild, with roots in several MMORPG's and an active player base.  I was on Varking and we started out strong, got up to about 40 members....and had about 25 on at any one time.

Well, the end of the free 30 days came...and I decided the game wasn't for me. (too many bugs, my box wasn't up for it, and I didn't really enjoy the gameplay)...

Well, as we approach the end of the 2nd month my friends are complaining that no one is ever on anymore, and they can only seem to find about 10 regular people that are playing.  Even the hardcore VG players/officers are starting to curse the game and are exploring options such as LotRO.  Most are ready to move to WAR or AOC as soon as they are available.

So sure,  I think the phenomenon the OP and others has observed is somewhat valid.  Not saying that some guilds aren't doing great right now, I'm sure they are. Some folks play games simply to be with their guild friends.... I'm not one of those people though

I guess I need to give more information then....

The guild I joined was a guild that jumped from WoW.  They have a website and forums.  We play on Thunderaxe server (not sure if that one is low pop or not).

It really does not matter much to me but I thought it was odd that all these people just stopped playing so soon.

I happen to like Vanguard but I get tired of the small conceited group of people who lashed out at any who dare say something negative about the game.  You know alot of people judge how good a game is by it's community and you guys are not winning any awards there.  If I was you, I would try my best to help others who are struggling to play this game.  These people are going to be the ones who pay the money to keep the game afloat.

So anyhow, maybe these guys went back to WoW or something.

I would enjoy checking out your Vanguard guild site if you do not mind.

On Shidreth, at 21 it seems like getting groups is easier than ever.  So haven't noticed any population issues.

ok, here are some pictures of what I am talking about (also has guild website info):

None this really matters anymore.  I am just going to find a new guild that has active players.  All I wanted to know is if other guilds out there were becoming inactive like this one.  That is all.

I'm sorry for thinking your original post was troll bait.  I guess I'm over-sensitized to this particular forum's problems.

Are you on Shirdeth?  If so, you are welcome to hang out with our guild and see what it's all about and then talk about memership afterwards.  Your guild definitely seems to have going in the toilet.

Our guild is growing.  It is a guild that is casual and it comprised of players 30 plus years of age for the most part.  A few in their 50s too.  We were a big guild on EQ.  After EQ the guild split up and went to EQ2, WoW, CoH, etc. etc. etc. and was basically fragmented to the point that no one game had more that 5-10 guild members.

With Vanguard, we seem to be experiencing a rebirth.  The game has pulled a lot of the original members back together.  We are about 40 members and getting more every week.  The EQ2, WoW, CoH and retired MMORPGers are coming back together.  It's a lot of fun because am chatting with folks I haven't heard from in years.

However, it is a casual guild and I don't think we've raided anything since we were wiped out in the Plane of Fear 7 years ago :)  If you like hardcore MMORPG play, we probably aren't right for you.  Casual play, casual grouping... a lot of us don't have more than a few hours a week to play with work, families and such.

Like I said, if you are on Shirdeth, send me a tell on Hypnus.

This happens with all new games, from my experience. Players "crack-out" for 1-2 months, and then disappear for a week or two to decompress. I wouldn't worry unless 2-3 weeks go by and no one is on. Also, remember, many of those members may be Alts...

I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!

    In fact, forget the SWG!!!!

I'm in a guild of nearly 100 people, although I'm sure many of them are alts.

Our numbers vary during the day, but there seems to be quite a few guilies online in the evening. We seem to be doing just fine.

With that said though I can certainly see a need for more guild tools. This game needs something to help develop a sense of community. A guild hall would be a good start as this will being a sense of cohesion to many guilds, but the costs are so high that it is going to take quite a bit of time to get one.

yup, the small guild I was in was active everyday the first 2 weeks of release, after 1 month no one is one.  My friends list is pretty empty too, im on the varking server.  I also cancelled my account yesterday.
