STALKER - WOW and GRRRRrrrrrr

RazorbackRazorback Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 5,253

Well I got STALKER yesterday.

The actual look of the game and the gameplay (what I have been able to get) is awesome. Its kinda like a little Oblivion in an FPS. There are definite RPG elements on top of what seems to be an exciting and relatively complex shooter. Its a lot like System Shock or Deus Ex, but not quite as polished as either.

The Grrrrrr side is that its a bug ridden, crash prone !$%^&* of a ^&*$%

Ive basically resigned myself to not being able to play it until its patched. I know others have not had the same drama, but if you read the forums Id say the majority have. Even Gamespys review concludes "wait for the patch".

4 freakin years in development and it needs a patch.... I swear PC gaming can be the most frustrating hobby some times.

You could have probably predicted it would need a patch.  What game nowadays doesn't need a patch to fix it after its released.  Ive been looking forward to Stalker but thanks to your heads up ill wait until the first patch.

Whenever I buy a game the first thing I do is start the search for patches.  The vast majority of the time there's one out there.  Or two.  Or three...

    You sir are incorrect.

It was supposed to be released 4 years ago.

Actually in 2002 the first screenshots were released for the game... So I have to estimate that It was in development 2-3 years before that...

Here are some screens from 2002

Stalker has several times been on the list "Will these games ever be released?" alongside with famous ones like "Duke Nukem Forever"

It has been one of the most awaited shooters for many, many years. And it pretty much turned out how it mostly does with those games. Features where cut out, the game actually promised way more earlier than what it was released with (Specially the multiplayer), bugs I guess they get tired of making the game and rush it out so it doesn't look to dated, or that people don't forget to much of the hype.

    Kinda what I expected.

    Not Another FPS Game.....

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!
