is a geforce 7800 good enough to run this game and other upcoming games as well? it seems like the best card i can get for 200 bucks. will this, do you think, give me a noticable performance boost (i.e. no stuttering?).
Buy your self a 7900GTX off ebay. Better than a 7800 and less pricey than the 8800s. Even better buy 2 in Sli if you can support it (and afford it). No need for Dx 10 cards yet, as by the time dx10 games are mainstream the geforce 9000 series will be on the shelves.
so. i got this video card and i can't use it. i have a dimension 8300 from dell and i guess it's the wrong kind of pci slot or something. i don't really know what i do from here? i don't know much about building comps but if there is a cheap way to get another mother board and use my current processor? can anyone offer any advice. i don't have 2k to drop on a new system but if there is a cheap way to make this work someone tell me!!! thanks in advance!

Well, Mik, even though you were rude, and ignored my advice about trying to fix V:SoH by upgrading hardware, I will try to help you. The graphics board you got was probably PCI-Express. Your best option is to return it and see if you can get the highest performance AGP card available ( I assume this is what is currently in your system ).
As to swapping the Motherboard, that is going to be very problematic. Most PCI-Express Mobo are going to be using CPU, Ram, Sata, and other stuff that is just not compatible with your current components. In addition, your XP installation is not going to allow you to just put your current drives onto a new Mobo and run; you would have to backup your data, wipe your disks, and reinstall your OS and Apps and Data.
To boost V:SoH performance, in addition to the Video Card (512mb preferably), you will also really want to have 2g of Ram installed.
thanks shoal. that makes sense. i wonder if the perfomance of an agp card will be okay? and is it possible to upgrade my psu easily on my own as i might have to for a new card? thanks in advance.

I wish you luck.
