Perfect! This is one of the few games of this nature where you can actually play a melee and not have to worry too much about whether their will be a healer around for pick-up groups. The more minstrels the merrier!

Imagine, making a fun, powerful and soloable healer class would actually encourage people to play one? I think LOTR is on to something :)

I agree. They melded classes VERY well which makes more fun groups. Loremaster being part pet class part spell chucker minstrel part mellee part buffer/healer. I think it's awsome although i have a feeling later in lvls you'll find people who refuse to do certain jobs in parties because of their "build" but i think the games taken acount for that by making the game more easy on odd ball groups than other games *cough*ff11*cough*

Actually, in two polls Ive seen.. Minstrels have come in around 4th most popular (around 14-15% of total).... behind Hunters, Champions, Guardians....

Besides the fact that they actually solo melee pretty well, there was a time in Closed Beta where they were seen tearing up elite mobs much higher than themselves.... (this has be fixed since then) so there might still be some fondess for them.

Right now... polls show Captains as the least played...followed by Lore-masters and Burglers....but all of this might change after we reach open beta.....

Yea i account that poll to the fact most people in close beta are probably more LOTR fans than the majority of the people picking it up during release or preorder beta. I have a FEEELING that burglar is going to be the most used going into preorder as 90% of the WoW/CS/ff7 generation of youths NEED to play a rouge for some wierd friggen reason (not saying rogues are bad just pointing out a certain group migrates to them).

I think theres still alot of minstrel players because they made them before the huge nerf.  I expect to see alot less come open beta! To me they play like another support healbot class now. Also dont mistake everyone who plays a musical instrument as a minstrel, most arent.

Like most MMOs I'd still expect to see the 'healer' class to be the minority epecially with 2 of the other classes(atleast) having cool pets and the dps'ers having fun dpsing. Like in some other recently released games, the healers are truly the best solo class the grind/solo quest with. So while there may be quite a few Minstrel's around they may not exactly jump when you put out the 'LF1M healer!' call in General chat.

got 2 minstrels right now, one in the mid teens the other is in his high 20's. Both solo almost as well as my Hunter. Just gotta time those self heals correctly. It's all in how you play your toon. Reminds me of my old smite cleric at DAoC's release. I can take on a pair of whites, 3 or 4 blues at once, or an orange, and with a bit of luck a white and a yellow but that is risky.

    I miss DAoC

you are not supposed to be able to tackle an elite 6 levels below you. That is an anti exploit code they put in to keep people from camping and farming them, their DPS is artificially increased if you try them solo. Been that way since mid beta 1. Signature mobs is as high as you can go solo.

Apparantly there ARE people who like Minstrels.

My goal here is really not to stir the pot, but I'm sorry the act of breaking out your guitar and harming your foe by singing cracks me up every time I see it. I've read the LOTR trilogy multiple times and it is just not how I imagine that Tolkien imagined minstrils changing the tide of a battle. :)

Well this is an example of someone who has never been to open mic night at a music club.

Ministrel was quite popular for a while. Now new flawour is Hunter!

Yesterday i went in in a group with 5 hunters and me a smallish hobbit burglar. It looked quite funny...

I thought Minstrels were LOTRO's version of the healer class?  So yeah, it's kind of like how if you play a cleric, you don't have to sit around waiting for a cleric :)

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.
