LEGO MMO?

I read somewhere ( Ign I think ) that NCsoft has gotten the rights to make a Lego based MMO.

my question is..... How would they do this? and would you play it?

It would be simple and ingenious to create a MMORPG based on everyone's favorite; Legos.

A great and fun character creation process.

The ability to interact with the world in ways we haven't in other MMORPGs.

Quests, enemies, and weapons/armor which can be take apart and put together in a variety of ways.

A endless world, limited by the imagination and average hard drive space of players.

The real question is: Why *wouldn't* you make a Lego MMORPG?

Yes but how would they do this? it would simply have to be the most customizable MMO ever created, and that ever will be created.

Other wise i see it failing.

Example if i cant build and race a car, then change it to a spaceship, than a submarine, then go home to my custom fort, then off to fight some kights, aliens, pirates and robots in one sitting

I just dont see this idea taking off, im sure it will be scraped

It seems it will take more work then most developers are willing to put into most MMO's (sad but true)

the Coding by itself is a imaginable nightmare of variables

plus you know there will be tones of penis shaped buildings (curtosy of players)

That doesn't make any sense! You don't realize that real life Legos have different settings/sets.  You can buy a Star Wars set, a Pirate set, etc, but unlike real life, a Lego MMORPG would have to focus on one of these sets, or simply get a generic vanilla lego environment, which would be difficult to pull off.

It could be a fantasy based LEGO setting.  This is the most likely candidate for a MMORPG.

then i deffinetly wont play it, I dont need a Lego fantasy of Star Wars knock-off. and if they focus on one set then the game will deffinetly fail....

why play a mid-evil themed lego MMO when i could play Everquest 2? for the novalty of the fact their legos? its just not enough.

If it were like any of the lego games that are out for the pc then it would be fun.  I know that seeing legos get  put together would appeal to many different generations.  I also know that my kids would be fighting me for the computer time more.

If there is a lego mmorpg coming then theres a good chance itll just end up playing like any other mmorpg...  Just because its legos doesnt mean you'll be able to take the legos apart and create whatever you want.  Like in Lego Starwars I dont think theres any building at all....  It could as easily be a regular game...  Its just more fun because the graphics look all lego-ish.  A mmorpg might be the same way, sadly.

Well, for one thing, Legos are far cooler than anything SoE can come up with.  ;)

I'd rather play a LEGO MMO any day of the week.  Hell... I might go buy some legos after work and remember some of my childhood.  Wow... brilliant marketing scheme too!  And I don't even mind... because it's LEGOS!!

here's one of the ways i see it..

there's about a dozen different lego sets on the market right now, star wars, pirates, batman, whatever, think of those complete sets that you can be in as instances. think of the "base world" as the village set, or just plain legos, where there is sandbox style building and crafting, and just general world stuff. when you want to.. let's say quest or have a little adventure you enter one of the lego set instances, and you assume a "persona" in the set instance. so you and or you and your group would be able to enter the batman instance, which would not be a private instance, but a public instance will all of the other legoians that chose to do that instance right then, and possibly so there's not 600 batmans running around in the main instance, uhh.. instanced quests within the instance for what ever group of people you are with. so the "base game" would be, let's say secondlife style (kinda), with instanced lego sets guild wars style.

..or maybe have the lego sets something like Eq2's adventure packs. base game.. 9.99 per month. adventure sets, additional 2.99 per month plus 10 dollar purchace... a marketing bonanza.

there's a lot of different ways i could see them working this game out, another thing you need to think of tho is what is the situation with IPs ? can they get them on board or are we just talking about red, yellow, white, black and blue bricks here ?

i'm sure there's a TON of things that need to be flushed out, and a real development challenge. i personally think this would be a great game to be part of the development process with, and funding aside, technology their only limiting factor.

the more i think about it, the more possibilities i see for this game, but i'll leave it at just that last edit.
