Hey, I was going to download Tales of Pirates and went to
www.igg.com to register. These fools want your social security number on an unsecured website. I find this fishy. I'm not giving out my social security number on any site especially an unsecured site. This needs checkoout.

But your right on the other hand... the site does look fishy...
I'm not about to be the one who is going to find out. Screw that. IGG.com is on my block list. It is too fishy to risk. Your going to have kids throwing socials out on an unsecured site......i'm going to find out why this is going on.
And it's unsecured. Most sites you put in credit cards, etc. have "https://' making it a secure site. This site has the normal "http://" Plus it's not coming up secure on the net.
EDIT: I do agree with you though, it is a shitty way of doing things and is completely unnecessary .
Eh... you guys are making way too big a deal out of this...
In Asia (Taiwan, China, I think even a few other countries... not sure about Japan and Korea), when you signed up for a F2P or even P2P game(don't reall know about this, I'm guessing some does), they ask you to put in your ID number (this ID number is essicentially the SSI in US), and for some company they actually have it so that you can't enter fake number (most ID have their beginning number the same, and the rest different or something of the sort, I don't know). Is it safe to do so? I don't know, but this is due to the fact that they only want you to have one account so that you don't farm gold, or such... But does people still get multiple account? pretty much....
I'm not saying it's ok for them to do that, and it is good that you are careful with these type of things. Just pointing out the fact that they are not the first game company that does it, and will certainly not be the last to do such thing.
Current MMO: FFXIV:ARR
Past MMO: Way too many (P2P and F2P)
It is possable that this is a fake site designed to get personall details for chriminal purposes.
So follw the number 1 golden rule of the internet : If it looks safe try it if it looks dodgy DONT
As mentioned above, in China you must entire in an ID number that represents you by LAW... goes with being communist so they can track everything you do....
This game was just ported over to english... and they kept the same login screen. And last time i registered it did not ask for any social security or passport, it only asked for an ID #.
Just put 0123456789 as your ID # and your set. Just think of it as a # to get your account back incase its stolen.
Well I checked with our security admistrator at work, that site is on the list as blocked site and when I say blocked, it means it supports the unsavory keyloggers, adware, etc.
You should never ever give out your social security number to any site, EVER!
MMORPG.COM should remove the promo for this game immediately. I find this highly questionable they would direct you to this site.
Putting in 123456789 works just as well, if you really must try the game.
I would say don't bother, personally. I didn't think it was worth downloading. YMMV
This makes no sense. I dont get extra spyware tracking at that site. I run spyware many times a day and your social security number is a form of tracking true. The simple truth is dont put in your SS# if you dont want to. Your choice is so easy you will not play the game. If your really wanting to play it then play another version of the TOP game at www.piratekingonline.com.
But if someone is on their site and stalking kids and talking innappropriately you had better bet that people would be up in arms to track them down.
i just made up a random number, had to write it down so i wouldnt forget though, but yea never ever put in your ID #
only time i put mine is when im paying a bill
Its not formal... the registration form is a translated one from the Korean site. Social Number usually is meant for Korean players ( KSSN ) and China dont use ID for registration. Only Korean that use KSSN to record age and health reports. While in Japan, they use language check during registration.
Hope my explanation help you abit.
All canceled. Waiting on Warhammer Online : Age of Reckoning.
Guys, guys, it's just bad translation.. It's not actally asking for YOUR SS number it's asking for yet another password in basic terms, yea from what been said above is true theres some 'other' things in the game that aren't to do with 'us', don't thret about it, the game's fine
Although Pirate King Online and Tales of Pirates ARE in fact the SAME game, just for some reason IGG are hosting it 'again' (as the IGG logo pops up on loading PKO) on their own site under a different name... dunno why they just are
Bring on the WARRRRGGHH!
