MMORPG = Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game

This game ticks all of those boxes, so it is an mmorpg. It is also a diablo style game, no one denies that, not the players or the developers. So, I don't really see the point of this thread.

I was expecting some innovative features....

    Some innovative features.

  • [sYn][sYn] Member UncommonPosts: 61
I can see your point, but the innovation lies in the games characters and humour. I can't say I have ever played a game which makes me giggle half as much as this game does. It wasn't intended to be a huge MMO, nor was it trying to kill WOW or any other mmo. It was designed for people like myself with full time jobs, kids a wife who sometimes want to pop online and spend an hour questing. I can give this game an hour a week and still have a fun, eventful and interesting time.

Innovation comes in many forms, not just in game features and pretty graphics engines.

    1)  Why is being an updated Diablo clone a bad thing?   People enjoy a fun hack-n-slash.

    2)  I personally haven't played Diablo, but I know that no other game I've played has had all of these features:
    • Instant teleport to any team member at any time via 'go to'
    • Instant auto-group feature that automatically pairs you with other players within your level range - no need to spam 'LFT...'
    • Ability to manually reset instances over-and-over again, regardless of quests (although, some quests actually require you to reset at least 3 times)
    • Staying grouped even  if you disconnect, whether purposefully or accidentally.  When you login again, you're instantly part of the team again (unless the team is disbanded or you've been booted).  In every other mmo I've ever played, when I lost connectivity I had to be invited back into a team OR the disconnect bugged the team...
Granted, no one game is right for everybody.  If this isn't  the game for you, then say so.  No big deal.  Those of us that like the game take exception, however, to broad, generic and completely subjective statements with no real merit.

This game is basically Diablo 3D.. honestly .. I wonder if Blizz sold them the rights to use their interface.. character development.. MUSIC!!

Not saying this game is bad.. just saying the Orginal Diablo/Diablo 2 does it better.. even if its only 2D...

    ....When was Diablo EVER 2d?

Personally I fell in love with and got addicted to Diablo 1 and 2. So.. if this is a clone of Diablo in any way, yipee.

WHY ARE YOU COMPLAINING? If I remember correctly.. hmm... that lil game called Diablo was QUITE WELL LIKED by a lotta people it's only natural SOMEONE did up a 'diablo-insipired mmo' cuz Bliz sure the heck wasn't doing anything with it :p if anything as fans of Diablo, you should rejoice!  REJOICE DAMNIT.... I myself never cared for the game nor do I for this one but ... good luck to all who do and fun times.  Cheers.

Why do I write, create, fantasize, dream and daydream about other worlds? Because I hate what humanity does with this one.

BOYCOTTING EA / ORIGIN going forward.

when the terrain was 2d.you only moved along the x and z axis not the y, technically making it 2d. graphics wise the game was 3d. or at least that's how i had it explained to me. in DR you move along all 3 axis.

Just FYI, World of Warcraft has *all* the features you list.  Some from Launch, and some more recent.  But, they all exist now and I have personally used or been involved with all of them.

I played this game also, and for 5 bucks a month, you can't complain.  BUT, this is geared toward casual players.  People who want gear without playing for 6 hours at a time.  I don't play it anymore due to the fact I hate instanced worlds.  Instanced dungeons is one thing, but an instance game sucks.  I uninstalled it.  People who want gear, easy combat system that a 5 year old could play it....this is for you.  This is basically a SMO. Small Multiplayer Online.

    It has:

    1. No Crafting

    2. No PVP

    3. 3 classes to pick from

    4. Drops you can't use (worth anything) unless you pay the 5 bucks a month

    5. No sit and rest...you have to mash the button and drink SUPA DOOPA potions constantly.

Even the lead developer refers to the game as MMO-lite.  It's not intended to complete with games like WoW or Vanguard.  it's designed to fill a niche, which it does pretty well.

In regards to some of your points:

    2)  PvP is in the works - it will be implemented in the form of team arena matches and minigames.

    3)  All classes will be removed - 'class' will be determined by gear and stats, both of which you will be able to change on the fly.  Essentially, you'll have at least 2 characters in one.

    4)  Not true - the game can be soloed from start to finish using non-member gear. I know of a level 50 mage who has never been a member and does perfectly fine.

    5)  Its not a button masher at all.  For one, you can simply hold down the mouse button to lock on a target and attack.  The only buttons to push are to activate skills during combat s such as buffs, resists or AOEs.

Have you played since the big patch last week? There's a ton of good stuff in the new patch.

I was also pretty unimpressed with the lack of depth in this game.  Three classes is really just not enough.  D2 had 5 (then 7).  Guild wars has like 8 now.  You can say 'classless' but how broad are the skill trees?  If there are only 10 skill trees total thats still MUCH more shallow than the other two games I've mentioned.  And thats without even mentioning dungeon siege and Titan quest.

Basically, I think this game is going to get whomped for trying to go into an already-crowded field with too little going for it.
