I have been playing for a week. Usually I start a new game playing the different classes a few levels and trying to find the one that fits for me. But I noticed there is not much "chatter" going on. If I saw a lot of "group looking for class X" and I felt like I could play that class it helped me narrow down my choices. But then maybe it's beacuse the player base is spread out or something.
So .... where does everyone go to find other players?
Also, since there is no official web site, is there any forum that is considered the main VG hang out?
And finally ... raids. This is what I play for. Dungeon demolition on a large scale. I have yet to read post about them; are they even the game? I don't want to play for 6 months and then find out end game content is 10 man encounters or PvP battlegrounds areas.
Thanks for your time

Even the people who still subscribe seem to spend more time posting on forums than playing. I guess they are trying to do what they can to keep the game from dying before Sigil can magically fix the game and win back the support of everyone they alienated by flinging the poo-that-is-Vanguard at us.
Peoples who built group...I can't talk for all of them.
But me, I ain't playing the game because of raiding, on paper, the raiding endgame. Thereby, I am building groups in CoV, not in Vanguard.
Who exactly play Vanguard? Not the PUG players you seem to be looking for. I ain't there, and I honestly don't think many PUGer will consider a game like Vanguard, as it enforce raiding and been part of a guild at the expanse of everything else, including grouping. Since you are looking for raiding, the absence of PUGers shouldn't be that bad on you, but you will have to change your strategy, you can't raise to level XYZ with PUGers that ain't playing the game.
Find a guild, then pick the class they want and see that they help you with grouping. That is prolly your only alternative atm, and since they dual box, they will likely help you level up.

I would consider Silkyvenom.com to be about as official a forum as you will find for VG...at least the devs read and post there somewhat regularly..and the WIKI is nice...
As to lack of chat...you are in the starter areas..and I'd venture a guess that most people still playing have moved beyond them to other zones (yes, there are zones, despite what you've been told)
Chat is divided up into these zones..so you are missing out on the chatter than many of the higher level players are doing....
Couple that with the prominance of voice chat in games these days..and the written tell is becoming a thing of the past....

There are plenty of groups but it seems alot of people are between 20-40 right now and are higher up. I suggest you play on Tharridon. if you are looking for a promising class i suggest you pick a shaman for both pvp and pve. I also suggest you find a dedicated guild and not some newbie guild that is advertising in chat.
***EDIT***
www.SilkyVenom.com is the main forums for VG
I saw all servers at Medium population last night, I would not consider that painfully underpopulated at all. Your "even people who still subscribe" statement it self denotes you are a TROLL. The game is without a doubt more populated now than when I PLAYED in the first month.
As a sidebar, play the game then post. But dont post out of anger because you were either unable to play on your current system or etc...
People who have jobs post during the day and play after work, I would much rather play VG than post here, but there is a need at times to correct balatent lies and maybe feed the trolls. As is the case with this post.

there, and you are the "evil" race and have alot of negative faction to grind
out, but I think the Orcs look way cool.

Painfully underpopulated means different things to different people. If you can not find anyone to group
with around your level, it might be reasonable to conclude that the server is painfully underpopulated.
One must always look for context.
Its going to be hard finding a group in Vanguard right now. Brad even stated that their LFG option is seriously underdeveloped and their world is a little too big for the numbers/program they have for looking for groups.
No continent is better than the others. But there are some better off starter cities such as the human ones. The Orcish, goblin, barbarian/half giant, etc are very underpopulated. You'll see some activity going on but not really enough to pull off a good group.
Raids are suppose to be in Vanguard but with the current problems they have technically, its just too combersome to get a raid together. Also, end game raid really hasn't been ironed out yet (which is a bad thing for those who are already 50)
Try to get a buddy pass and see for yourself; don't take my word for it.

It is when the game is only two months old.
New, highly anticipated MMOs that was just released 2.5 months ago should have their servers maxed out to the teeth. That's pretty much the norm for new mmorpgs.
Medium servers are similiar to MMOs that has been out for years and seen a decrease in player. Matrix Online is medium and the smallest EQ2 servers are medium.
Right now, City of Heroes/Villians are more populated than Vanguard as is 7 of EQ2 servers as they still are classified as heavy servers.
Brand new MMOs should never be at "medium" status. That would be considered "painfully underpopulated." Email Brad. Im sure he'll tell you just how "painful" it is right now.

Thanks for the help.
Silky venom. Don't know how I missed that one while looking for web sites. As for the number of daily active posts, this site was pretty high up there; bBoth for and against. Lots against. Passionantly against. At this point in my gaming days I'll take unabashed hatred over apathy in a heaartbeat
You are right...there isn't alot of idle chatter going on...publicaly, BUT there are reasons for it. I know in my guild with 10-20 online at any given time things can go silent or close to it for long times.
1) It's a new mmorpg still and people are trying to concentrate...figure things out....ect.
2) The games chat UI is difficult to manage with multiple conversations / channels at a time. It's also cumbersome to chat while in combat...or just active in general.
3) I know in my guild and generaly speaking from what I've observed in the community....a rather high percentage of vetern gamers and older folks...( for gaming standards ) 30+ folks...like me I know I don't really WANT to chat all that much. If I wanted to chat , I would go to a chat room. Nervous ( I'm talking cause nobody is talking ) kinda chat is the worst kind.
4) ALOT more chatting is going than you think. Majority of " chat " is done via guild chats, group chats, and personal tells.
5) Chatting slows down advancement alot for alot of folks...particularly in adventure xp. I'm always trying to fight the hardest possible mob I can hunt mostly successfully....so pausing to chat often means I die.
It's not a chat condusive environment...I like that though..opinions will vary and thats cool too. Gravity makes me bitter.
Where are you? What server?
I play on Florendyl, mostly in Thestra. I start with Central Thestra chat and Central Thestra Auction chat enabled, and usually disable them quickly in favor of guildsay. There is a lot of conversation, and unless there's something that catches my eye, I don't want to be distracted. Sometimes, if I'm just soloing, or looking for a group, I'll leave the regional channels up to see if there's anything interesting happening. If I'm crafting or doing diplomacy, I like to minimize the distractions, so I keep them off.
I see a lot of questions that I just let pass, at least the first few times. Some of the activites require fairly intense focus, and I don't like to juggle a conversation with, for example, kiting. Some of the comments from people who say the community is uncooperative are simply reflective of the fact that people are busy and concentrating on their tasks at hand.
As for the out-of-game community, the main Vanguard site is useful mainly for its links to the other community sites. I think the several of them that I frequent are fairly good. I don't always find interesting recent stuff to keep me at any of them for long, but I don't expect it either. If I don't find something interesting at one site, I'll go to another.
For in-game connection with other players, turn on your Looking For Group, enable your regional chat, and try the areas that tend to be more populated. Central Thestra seems to be a magnet for characters from all over the world. From the chat volume, I would guess that Northern Qalia is the same, especially the area around Khal if not Khal itself. The word is starting to get around that Kojan runs out of things to do at around L20, so a lot of characters who start there are moving out as soon as they finish the newbie lines, to build up faction where they are going to need it later. Different servers might have different statistics.
It's basically a spam fest. Guess it depends on the server.
