I'm looking for a game with a good value ignoring graphics etc perhaps with a GOOD community. I don't care so much about the grind, but if its heavy it's not great in my opinion, I don't believe sinking huge amounts of time into a game for some aesthetic armor or sword that will just be nerf darted by something better than it. I'd like some type of other game. I do spend huge amounts of time on games if i like them, but grinds really make me mad.
I'm a teamspeak/ventrilo user as well, i don't have a guild in guild wars anymore since it wasn't beneficial nor fun to me even though i was with friends from other games. Grouping in GW can also be extremely frustrating, i group'd twice for one mission got nearly to the end and died both times.
I've been thinking about Eve, Space Cowboys, UCO (completely japanese, maybe worth a try)..Auto-Assault maybe. I've played an old RealTimeStrategy Shattered Galaxy for a long time, but i want something of more value after getting something done it does not feel that great. (SG(as above)) has a unique RTS experiance imo, one that dosen't reseble keeping your base alive or so, management such as that makes me kinda of meticulously exasperated and annoyed
Defining value i want to feel as if i've accomplished something. When i tried Eve for example (14 day trial) just getting through the tutorial pissed me off badly. I don't have the time to sit through a 3 hour tutorial, not to mention that my retention isn't great even with a notepad open.
If anything I detest the traditional RPG elements that come to make up MMORPG's. Don't get me wrong i still own all three guild war's but i don't play them very much. By traditional elements i mean the class system that seems to reoccur like fastfood throughout the whole MMO industry which in turn makes most games not worth playing for me. Any suggestions?

Minimal grind, skill based and great PvP.
I'm waiting for Tabula Rasa myself., but maybe i'll look at that Grand game.
Missed that paragraph...
Well a tutorial is a tutorial... You just need to do it once.
EvE is not some WoW or similar where everything is at plain sight. The tutorial is a necessary evil.
I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.
I'm not a fanboy. You asked for an oppinion, I gave it.
I already said I missed the paragraph where you wrote you tried EvE already.
Be more kind to those that try to help you.
Geez...
everyone asks this 7 times each day
I would suggest the City of Heroes/Villain game for you.
In my experience, the community is excellent. You can find a lot of helpful people where ever you go. Mind you my experience is limited to the Infinity server, however. Players frequently have "costume contests" and if they like your toon's outfit they give you a prize of influence/infamy (ingame cash). Higher levels are usually generous with cash to lowbies, as long as they're not begging for it. My level 8 defender was training once when a level 50 dumped several 50ish enhancements that I then sold for a small fortune. Myself, I've given out cash and such to lowbies spontaneously, helped out on tough missions, etc.
Plus CoX probably has the best character customization of any game... period.
Hey, don't take my word for it though, there is a free trial for both games. Give each a shot and if you like they are stand-alone. Meaning you don't have to buy Heroes to play Villains and vice-versa.
You seem to have missed the paragraph where the OP said he doesant like grinding a lot so City of heroes or city of villains wont really do for him as its a pretty standard grind template.
I personally feel that EvE is a good game for those that dont like grind and like to leave an impression on the game world. Of course the tutorial is a pain but it is greatly needed for a true newbie.

Geez... It's not that im particularly cranky, its that i'm coming off a 4 year run on the RTS shattered Galaxy as i mention'd and i had outlined the paragraph that you missed and underlined it as well, that slightly annoyed me.
I apologize though Sh337, I don't completely understand the "fanboy" term yet, so i was taking a random stabb at it, i apologize if i offended you in anyway, its just that you admitted yourself that you didn't read my paragraph. Based on that information alone i assumed that if anyone who came here could and potentially would post Eve-Online as a candidate game name would just look at the topic title then start writing a post mentioning _____ etc (___ = eve online for example)

Well, I'm willing to try the tutorial again if i have a nice supplemential site to support what the tutorial covers (since it was a complete pain in the ass). I have some friends playing Eve. Message me a vent/TS server to get some help on too would be nice.
Currently Playing: WoW (somewhat)
Testing: None
Played: WoW, CoV, AL, SWG, VC, EVE, SWToR
I have friends ChaoticGhost and MMXMMX who play it as far as i know and still do to this day, MMXMMX got his billion dollar isk ship blown up in some circumstances and such. I also know that the PvP rocks.
lol do you even know what your doing, youre thinking about eve, then your not, then your saying stuff you dont even know what they mean to someone trying to help you , he suggested eve then, you do this...THEN you come up with an excuse ....now your saying AGAIN that you might try eve ........am i right? do i get the picture here? are you just a wasting your time here ? yes you are, go play eve instead....
Do i know what i'm doing? No, thats why i'm posting here.
2) Yes, I occasionally think about Eve-online, but i doubt that the learning-curve would be very beneficial to me and i'm individually a person who learns as they play, and playing with a good "Corp" would be beneficial, but i don't know where to look.
3) He suggested Eve, after NOT reading my entire post which outlined my experiance with MMO's and the fact that I **have** looked at Eve's tutorial (anything good comes with time as someone said in the last page), then i underlined stuff(as an exscuse) how is somthing an exscuse if i state it before he makes his post)
*Sorry, I fail to see the connotation of a prerequisite excuse to his entire post being overlooked since he didn't read it all of mine.
"hen i tried Eve for example (14 day trial) just getting through the tutorial pissed me off badly. I don't have the time to sit through a 3 hour tutorial, not to mention that my retention isn't great even with a notepad open." - Posted before and completely overlooked by respondent. (Nor did he try to convey the overall feeling of what happens at PvP EG, Corporations anecdotes things to jazz up the overall experiance over time
Its my belief that because i had to underline the fact that i mentioned eve in the first place.(edit to quote where i did) that he was throwing eve out there after i knew about it, saying that i didn't particularly like it. Nor did he try to answer to pertain what happens at higher levels of play, what sort of things go on to entice me. Essentially he wrote "Try eve", as a Topic sentence, he didn't offer supporting details of what is to look forward to, etcetera.
4) Wasting my time? I'm trying concisely plan what i want to play, make a plan, follow through and find a decent game worth playing.
EQ2: I had played briefly when it first came out but chose World of Warcraft instead. When I went back to it I decided it was the same level grind as WoW and I didn't to start at 1 and grind my way up to X.
Eve: Played it for when it was first released several years ago, enjoyed it for a time but wanted to try something new. Went back to it recently but could not get back into it. You can't just jump into the game and go PvP, you need to skill-up (eve's version of leveling) so there is the mission grind to get cash or sitting for hours mining asteroids.
SWG: I played the old system and went back recently on the new leveling system. The new system is not as bad as the 'haters' make out as it comes into line with the leveling system of other mmo's. I enjoyed the change of scene to a Sci Fi based mmo but didn't like the combat system. Try the trial and see if you like it.
Anarchy Online: downloaded the trial but the graphics on the original game were terrible and I quit pretty quickly. You may like it if you give it a try.
CoX: Played CoH when it first came out, briefly. Can't comment on it as it's been too long.
Guild Wars: No monthly fee... bought it when it first came out but never really played it. Trying it again now but the character models may be a bit too anime like for my tastes, I'll try it as bit longer and see if I like it.
Vangard: Needs a high end system or you'll get lag. Mine is about 3 years old and I get lag when I tried it ( 3ghz P4, 2gig RAM, 256meg Nvidia FX.) If you have a better system than that, it may work fine for you... but you still have the level grind.
At the moment I'm looking at the games in development. Tabula Rasa and Fallen Earth look intersting but as I'm a massive Stargate fan, I'm excited about SG Worlds. Not sure whether i'll try Age of Conan or WAR as I'd like a change from fantasy. WAR 40000 looks interesting though. There's also Star Trek Online.
I think you may be best suited to Tabula Rasa and maybe play battlefront or something offline until then. Just my 2..

(i havent learned where the quote is yet)how to quote from inside this box..)
I'm waiting for both as well. this system is pretty old it has 768MB ram 512 Vid, its a Dell dem 8300. I haven't got around to upgrading it much, though i upgraded to a radeon x1600 a few months ago from an integrated 64 graphic card (noob) :P Give me a ring (or PM when both come out, I'd appreciate it. ). I love you both.

Me too. I'm sure Eve is a great game and all, but when I couldn't get past (what felt like) day 6 of the tutorial, I gave up.
I would suggest City of Heroes, by the way.
MMO games played or tested: EQ, DAoC, Archlord, Auto Assault, CoH, CoV, EQ2, EVE, Guild Wars, Hellgate: London, Linneage II, LOTRO, MxO, Planetside, SWG, Sword of the New World, Tabula Rasa, Vanguard, WWIIOL, WOW, Age of Conan
Well LordSlater, I did read the OP article and that is why I suggested CoX. Perhaps it is my ol' days of playing EQ1 but I find that once you played that game, "grinding" in other games is ... rather relative.
Besides, certain classes in CoX can burn through levels really quick. Mastermind of course comes to mind quickly, since once they get their 6th pet they never really need a group. Mine soloes easily on Vicious difficulty, even with Elite Boss missions. Then again, Villains seems to be a bit more pro-solo than Heroes, but if you can get a hero team going Heroes really shines.
As I said though, grinding is relative. What one person feels is "grinding" another person won't notice at all. I enjoy CoX quite a bit, so it never seems to me that I am grinding to make the next level.
