I never read dragonlance but im going to deffinatly say sword of truth, im suprised eragon isnt there, I know the move sucked but the books are awesome. Have you ever read word and void novels? It is the best novel I have ever read in my opinon its the same guy who wrote the shannara series.

But it may be hard to turn into a mmorpg then again maybe not, imagine a world devestated from biological warfare and nuclear wars, and the world is full of demons and oncemen creatures and other kinds of evil, as the order of knights of the word stop them and try to help restore the world. Yes there are other races like elves and etc. But I think it would be a nice change of pace from the typical castles and taverns.

I voted for Dragonlance, there hasn't been a good game based on Krynn since the old SSI gold box games for the early PC and C64.  As much as I loved the Dragonlance books, I think a Forgotten Realms (preferably the cystal shard series) MMORPG would be a better setting because it would be very difficult to recreate Dragonlance's world at war feel.

I have read most of those series, and they are typical high fantasy.  Don't we have enough High Fantasy MMOs?

How about an MMO based on Enders Game?  Or what about Snow Crash?  Or how about some cyberpunk MMOs where the corporations run the world and the rest of the people either join the corps or rebel in anarchy?  There are many sci-fi planet colonization novels that would make a more interesting MMO than another high fantasy MMO.  Maybe you want more fantasy... to each their own.

In the words of Adam Sessler "Fantasy MMO's are like cockroaches"

How about a serious attempt at making Shadowrun into a MMO ? Even better Battletech/Mechwarrior.

God i can't believe in this day and age there are no MMOs based on Robotech or Gundam. Heavy Gears is another. Course i am sure if some Dev started on those it would be half assed.

I know Fallout is coming but thats like an eternity away.

Keep imagination alive!  Don't trash it by turning great writings into MMOs.

Check out the following authors:  George RR Martin and Tad Williams.

David Gemmell's "Jeruselum Man" novels would make a great MMO setting.

was a tad unfair cause i wanted to vote both dragonlance and tWoT but tWoT won because i think it would be a more compelling mmo then dragonlance tbh, how about adding the discworld books too :D

    Magician: Apprentice.

Raymond E Feist is my favorite writer of fantasy. His books are at the top of my list above LOTR series. If not an MMO wish they would make a Feist film of the Books

While we need more of those, if you have not forgotten stargate worlds will be coming out and a few other sci fi mmorpgs, mech games well there are plenty of those on consoles and auto assault is out, and as far as fantasy games there are not very good ones out atm except with eq2 lore but we need better fantasy without the whole pure fantasy something more supernatural like. Or more mixed of futuristic fantasy, so I agree we need more fiction like I suggested above simply because we are lacking.

I didn't have time to read all the replys, so it may already be said, But anne McCafferys dragon rider books would be an awesome MMO, set in the 9th pass with F'lar and MH Robinton.  And also, Didn't someone make a FPS from the wheel of time series once?

I will assume that you mean Orson Scott Card's, Ender. If so, I just don't see how one can make a game...let alone an MMO that will only allow you to play characters who are between toddlerhood and pre-teen phase of their life. Even if a potential player manages to overlook this um shortcoming , how exciting would it be to live your whole virtual life in a military base where all you do is duel other squads of 5-12 year olds(no WoW digs please, I realize the temptation is strong).  When the player and his squad mates finally become top dog, they get promoted and then be allowed to live on a space station, which they can never ever leave (same goes with the starting area aka military base). In this space station adult npcs will be allowed to physically beat on your character in order to toughen your toon up, it is considered training, really it is. I will not reveal the ultimate reward for these unfortunate kids...go get the book!

As much as I love the Ender series, it is severely limited in scope. I will not even mention the shock that some of the more disturbing parts of the lore will most likely generate.

I personally would LOVE to see a Dragonlance, Robotech (the paper and pencil version considers Alcoholism as a talent! Beat that!), Shadowrun MMO. Heck I would be happy with a Dragonlance movie at this point! Eragon only has ONE I repeat ONE Dragonrider (never read the book, but I'm sticking with my story ). I humbly suggest giving Neil Gaiman's work a glance when considering  worlds to base an MMO on, though his stuff might be too hard implement and too out there for an MMO.

I would like to see A.Sapkowski's "The Witcher" MMO. Great book and with good developer it could be a great game too.

    The Black Company series.....

The Taken, the Dominator, the Lady, the Circle......no "kill 10 of" or "Fedex" quests.

In the fantasy category:  Terry Brooks' Discworld series.

Sci/Fi:  something set in Larry Nivens' Known Space universe.  But not the ringworld as it's just too damn big.

Sci/Fi that feels like fantasy:  Julian Mays' Plieocene Exile series.  Although I doubt if a mmorpg could do it justice.
