    Let me toss this out...

Planetside went to in game ads, and the ads were pretty silly.  This is a established game; with most the costs of having made it and all the hardware already paid for.  They just recently upped the monthly fee on the game on top of the ads.  I'm no longer playing, but I received the email notice of the price hike.

It just comes down to big business.  Have to improve those profit margins each year ya know.

    Whatever..

I'm in the same mindset as a few others here:  I basically ignore all ads.  I don't even see them anymore.  The thing is your average US citizen is subjected to 3000 ads a day.  Advertising is so prevalent as to be almost overwhelming.  Yet the marketing people are worried and a bit desperate.  Why?  Because most forms of advertising are no longer effective.  So they are looking for any and all means to reach people in different fashions.  They'll try just about anything.

Ads in games is only going to get worse.  Specially for games that are not big to begin with.  Here's the thing to keep in mind though:

The players won't be seeing ANY of the extra income/saving passed onto them.  The game won't be better, their won't be more content, and there won't be a price decrease to monthly subs.

The extra income from ads will be just that; extra income.  Better profit margins for the company doing the business of game making.  They can tell the publisher or the investors they are hedging their profit by putting ads in.

Heck, you're more likely to see a INCREASED monthly sub fee to get rid of the ads; then you are a decreased one.

These games aren't being made as a artistic endeavorer to entertain, they are entertainment being made to make money.

I'm personally sick to death of ads in my face everywhere I go.  I play games to have fun, relax, and get away from all that crap.  I simply don't want to and won't deal with that in a game I'm already paying a fee for.

It does open up a new business opportunity though:  Ad block software of in game ads.  I really hope someone figures out a way to do it.  The writings on the wall; and ads will just get worse.

The only way I would not play a game because of adds is if they are constantly in my face like a banner or popups. I could live with there being billboards in game and whatnot. This does not mean that I like it. If I am PAYING to play a game every month I don't want adds all over the place.

I've got a crazy idea, make a great game that has a large enough number of subscribers to increase your company's income every year. Don't push out a pile of crap and expect to pay off the development costs by throwing adds at your players.

If you don't like adds then don't play the game. The easiest way to show game developers that we want quality games and not a quantity of games is to not play games that are crap. The number of active subscribers will show them what we want as gamers.

Huxley does look promising. I hope they can deliver with a great FPSMMO.

I dont know about you, but I dont believe in having in game ads streaming to my game showing me stuff I dont want to buy, nor I can care about. Hell even if I liked the product, I dont want it in my game ruining my immersion. If i wanted realism Id play the game called LIFE lol.
I personally dont mind a ad or vending machine or some product hardcoded into the game as part of the environment. but for me where ads are dynamic, always changing, and just up there in your face,
I find them intrusive, invasive and plain out "BUY ME BUY ME! SPEND YOUR MONEY!!! YOU NEED ME TO EXIST!"i find it plain out rude, not to mention just like EA( what i would love to do to them and a nail studded aliuminum bat) the customers (US!!!) havent seen any drops in price, savings of any kind! all that money goes to the company, and we get buggy, horribly developed games that leave something to be desired.

Its evident this is an ongoing trend and someone or some people need to take a hose to MASSIVE and wash them down the drain like the dirty roaches they are. I absolutely despise them, its getting to a point I am soon not going to be able to buy any games without being bombarded by dynamic streaming ads in my games without the decency of a reacharound. I Wont be buying this game or any game that has streaming ads. then again thats just me.

O.M.G. maaaan you rly need professional help if you get affected by such a secondary part in a game LOL

..EDIT:btw i like it it makes the game feel more realistic

..EDIT:and fuxk you bitxhes for taking away my 4 stars you fuxking faxs go sux momy cox yo bitxhes

play a game JUST BECAUSE it has billboards that say buy this?  You don't even have to read the darn thing.  And this

effects the game.....how?  Re think your answers guys.... crap I feel like I am advertising this game or something lol.

Where's your Brain why should we have to put up with adds in games that we buy for 49.99 then pay 14.99 a month to play?

I won't support this, now if the monthly price is 9.99 a month then I might be ok with it.

What is the advantage to the consumer you and I? None that I see at the moment. None at all.

The only way i would accept in-game ads is if i'm able to blow that crap into pieces...

....snaps wait, i think i just invented a cool marketing strategy for in-game ads.

On a more serious note, in-game ads in a p2p game are simply lame stuff and would make me think twice if i would buy it.

It's not even the ad itself, it's more the attitude that is shown with it and the whole direction gaming is taking.

But that seems to be stuff too hard to understand for some people here. ;]
