Trying To Screw My Friend Over

My friend tried the trial for this game 2 months ago, after 3 days of playing he realized he didn't like the game and cancelled the trial account so he wouldn't get charged. Today they charged him for a months subscription just out of the blue, he is going to call customer service tomorrow to try and get things worked out.
Is this something that happens a lot or do you think they just screwed up?
