this game heavily based on class's or does it have a hybrid based system? just curious. personaly im tired of class base games, they usually end up lacking diversity. best pvp games i ever played ended up being hybrid based. personaly, im waiting for AoC since it will have hybrids but i figured i'd give this some lookin into.
also, whens the expected released date?

No hybrids, in fact most of the classes are very focused in what they do. Only the "healer" classes might be considered hybrid, since no healer is just a healer. They need to fight in order to cast effective heals.
Also, Q4 release. Maybe longer.
Seriously.

AoC // WAR // Darkfall
No class in WAR is ONLY about doing one passive thing, instead it's been advanced so everybody can have a chance of submiting to the battle. And not really "can" they MUST submit to the battle.
The Goblin Squig Herder I think could be a Ranger, capable of doing damage. And the healers are W/Mo (warrior + monk). I'm especially thinking of the Warrior Priest of the Empire. No class is healer ONLY.
I think we don't have to worry about not being able to customize our characters skills. Sure we are only restricted to use Hammers and hammers only if we choose hammerer, but the game style of all the hammerers I believe will differ since the skill trees which has been mentioned.

There will be some variety, since there will be specialization within classes. A Hammerer might go for two small warhammers, or maybe a large twohanded hammer. Maybe he'll have options for doing more damage to single targets, or multiple ones. We'll have to wait and see.
What you aren't going to see in WAR is WoW-like Druids or Shamans. The focus of each class is going to be tighter, which makes it easier for them to balance and keep relevant each of the classes.

The game is neither heavily based on class, nor is it a bybrid system. I don't know what game you played that has hybrid, my guess is it's Guild Wars which isn't a real MMO. And I mean more than just it's heavy instances, it's production values are so low and almost all of it goes towards graphics rather than gameplay.
I don't really see why you're so fond of Hybridism anyway. I mean, if everyone can shoot fireballs, why are fireballs special? And since when does AoC have hybrid classes? That's the first I've heard about that, a Necromancer/Barbarian doesn't make sense to me at all.
Anyway, I think you should check out WAR. You're probably used to game like WoW where there's 12 different types of classes that all pretty much play a like and because not much depth to any of them. WAR has four catagories, they're all really fundumentally different from each other. I think the focus on detial is really going to show. Also, even though there's 4 catagories, each Race has it;s own take on them. For example, the Orc's Tank uses a lot more tricks(stuns, mezes, ect) than the Dwarfs who use heavy armor.
Also, these guys don't know what they're talking about. The class is very focused on it's job, not 'one thing'. It's just may be doing damage, but there's a lot of ways to do damage. It's like the Engineer's job is ranged damage. When you say 'one thing', I'd think you'de mean it only shoots at the enemy. It doesn't, it shoots, it has special ammo, it snares, it even has grenades. But it doesn't heal, because that's not it's job. The idea is that Rangers look like rangers, melle guys look like melle guys, healers look like healers. It's 'Iconic' because you need that in PvP
Also, there's the CC system they're setting up. It's been described as Collage. You have your majors, which you have to take(e.g. Melle Damage for Hammerers, or Sacrifical Healing for the Zealot.), then you have your secondaries which are sort of related but more specialised(Maybe AoE Damge as opposed to single target for Hammerers or debuffs rather than pure healing for the Zealot), and then you have your electives to have fun with.
I think you're bieng lied to with that AoC Hybrid Class thing. Their fanbois make all kinds of wierd promises. I also think WoW left a bad taste in your mouth and over the next year you'll see a lot of good class systems. You might want to check out Chronicals of Spellborn too.
Hybrid= a class that combine elements of 2 or more fields. He is not talking of Necromancer/barbarians but of a class, like a Paladin, that is BOTH a fighter and a healer.
From that point of view, all healers and ranged classes can be considered "Hybrids"
WoW has 9 classes, not 12 and they are all COMPLETELY different from each other. I know you are a WoW hater, but class diversity is one of the strongest point of WoW so attacking that game on this is utterly ridicolous.
As for the main topic, so far we have little details, but we were told earlier that each class has basically a Skill Tree that define it. This skill tree ( from which ranks and tiers come from, IE: you gain the skill and THEN rise in rank that is probably just a numeric measurement of your overal power and does not rise your stats or stuff like that) is divided in 3 parts, Core, Secondary and Specializations.
The Core part is what ALL people of that class have. Secondaries and Specs are where you will differ from the rest. Again, no details, but we know that, for example, you will be able to wield pistols as a Ironbreaker trough specs.
Finally, even if the Core part is same for all, you have certain freedom in what way you take your skills, therefore, the possibility of having 2 ironbreakers exactly identical in skills is minimal (unless the two guys are copying each other of course), At any given point each might have some Core skills the other has not taken yet (because he took something else) and a variety of secondaries and specs that could be totally different.
On paper the system sounds great and the people that dabbled with it at conventions and the like were very positive. But we will see more soon enough.
Have a nice day.
