Request: who is locking a thread and why...

airheadairhead Member UncommonPosts: 718
I've seen several threads locked in a few forums... without the Admin saying who they are and why they are locking them. Cause there have a been a few discussions that seemed civil enough to me, and all of a sudden they are just shut down? and who ever locked it doesn't give a reason or claim credit for it?

imo, you guys as a site will do a lot better by letting people talk.... of course slapping the wrist if things start getting personal. And if you completely shut down a thread... I would like to hear why, and by whom, cause there's been several that look kinda questionable to me lately. Too much towards the 'thought-police' imo....

I'm sure there is a reason for removing a thread.  Read over the forum rules and familiarize yourself with them.  Once you are confident that you can remember most of them, you can understand why threads are locked.

I don't mean just skim over them.  Actually read them.

My request should not have implied to you that I have not read the forum rules. I have read them. And at your request, I read them again, and no, it did not answer my question. Oh wait... I REALLY read them...

I see no reason why thread X was locked.

Second, even if thread X was justifiably locked, I still think it's a reasonable request to have the admin take credit for locking it, and say what part of the rules of conduct said thread is violating.

Would you be comfortable having police just routinely go around picking people up and hauling them off to jail without stating what the person had done wrong? Of course not. Granted, this is just a website / forum and not that big of a deal.... but the principle is roughly the same. My request is only that the admin's take credit for the lock, and explain why. PLUS, doing so will further educate us all as to what we can and can not talk about...

Its in RoC at the bottom of page what you can & cannot discuss (no secret rules as far I've noticed), specific forum rules can be found in stickys (in the forum it applies).
For example: Dungeon Runner invite threads will be locked/deleted because there are 5 big ones already counting the stickied one in DR-forum.
(Do notice bumping old threads gets the thread locked & the bumper gets a deleted post).

If your own thread gets locked I think the moderator responsible sends a pm to why it was locked.

Is there any specific (locked) thread you are wondering about?
