Lord of the Rings Online gives us a preview of the character Traits system. Check out different ways you can spec your character in Middle Earth. There seems to be a lot of options for players to explore.

Acquiring and activating Traits is one of the most flexible methods for customizing your character in The Lord of the Rings OnlineTM: Shadows of AngmarTM. Simply put, Traits are new skills, bonuses, and other enhancements that benefit your character. There are four main categories of Traits: Virtue, Race, Class, and Legendary, which are earned by completing Deeds, quests, and other achievements during your adventures. Your Deed Log contains information about which of your current Accomplishment goals will reward you with a Trait.

Wheather you like LOTRO or not , Turbine sure seems to be doing all it can to make this game a success. I hope other companies take notice of how this game has been handled.

yep ,seems like they learned from the past.

while it isnt new and revolutionary, they've added some features, and ideas that really set this game apart.

Turbine are setting the agenda for mmorpg fantasy games. Even without the brilliant combat sytem made for D&D online Stormreach LOTR online is looking like the next best/big thing. What the games designers have cleverly done is to  pick all the most popular elements of online gaming and put them all together. On top of that they have injected a few new twists. I cannot see this being any less popular than WoW without being quite so retarded as WoW, although the WoW template has to be irresistable for any one in the driving seat for games design. Will keep me entertained for a year or too until the good games get made.

You three emplyees of Turbine or something? These traits are nothing new and have been talked about at length. By an large, the traits do to little for most of the character's levels to make any real difference. Oh and copying WoW doesn't make it innovative.

    Does it have housing?

    Does it have mounted combat?

Does it have more than one fraction?

Are the races's looks customizable beyind a couple of sliders?

Is there more than one story arch I can follow so it would be like actually worth leveling a second or thrid character?

If LotR is setting the standard why are so many of the games coming out after it so different? If  its copy of WoW is going to be copied by other mmos how on earth is that a good thing?

The game isn't a disaster and seems to run somewhat stable. I'll even go so far as to say its better than DDO, but its not the second coming.

Those are some good, legitimate questions that I hope get answered.  I especially would like to know about the character customization.

Is it going to be fairly extensive?  Or, am I going to buy the game and upon entering the wonderful world of JRR Tokien, going to be extremely saddened and PO'd that there are 7,933 other Elves that look exactly like me????

    Enquiring minds want to know!!!

I am unemployed but used to work for a bank for about ten years. All I said was that LOTRo has taken all the best elements of current fantasy mmorpgs and put them all together. Not very clever but a good piece of marketing strategy. I said WoW is retarded not innovative - WoW has 7993 elves that all look the same doing the same mindless grind smoking the same mindless drug. The thread is about a system used in a number of games including WoW and DDO. Nothing to do with houses, mounted combat...hang on you must work for that very badly marketed game Vanguard? You could learn a lot from Turbine as to how to create an alpha game that does not have some serious issues on release. Vanguard is a game released in a beta stage....ooops...there  go your potential customers! I would prefer to play a game that is reliable and less innovative than one where your ever so pretty character sit on your mule and lag for an hour!  N.B. Every race apparently has its own story but true to the spirit of massive multi player role playing games you should be creating your own story even if your characters do follow one arch...I don't think either the technology, finances or the creativity is curently available to make a game with more than one central story line. So yeah blame the people who make the shit out there and not the fans, like me, who look forward to a better gaming world....I will say it again LOTRo looks like the next big thing and I will play it till some one actually makes a good mmorpg.

I feel kinda bad becuase the game looks good but i would never play a lotrs game , its just way to lame and honestly the wrold hardly supports it. The idea came from the movies and subjectquental lame ps lotr games. But i like turbine and i know they make SOILD games that will have followings becuase you most often can customize characters and play styles alot in their games. Still the ip just is not for me and that is a shame.

I guess no one can have an opinion that differs from yours?  No I dont work for Turbine but if they need a photographer and want to pay well im right here.  I was refering to the polish this game has, to the solid marketing being done.  I prefaced my comments with "whether you like this game or not".  Second coming?  Its a game nothing more.

Housing?  Not yet but I read they are going to put it in based on feedback.  We'll see.

Mounted Combat?  Itll be a must to keep me subscribed.  Riders  of Rohan anyone.

More than one faction?  Dont know honestly, here's hoping.

Might want to go out and see the sun, you seem a little tense.

The game has nothing to do with the movies, they are strictly based off the books and other lore Tolkien has released. As for one of the questions asked earlier, yes there will be housing, but at a later time when Turbine has had some rest from trying to get the game right and into store.
