General: Acclaim's Top Secret Game Revealed?

Blue News is running an article that says Acclaim's new Top Secret Project has been revealed to be some sort of racing game. There has been no confirmation on this news. Feel free to read the article and discuss this latest update to the Top Secret Project.

Word from the folks behind Acclaim's Top Secret project is that the nature of this collaborative MMORPG has been revealed to be some sort of racing game. The Top Secret Website still requires registration to enter, and the forums are the only new content there, but presumably more details are coming as this project races along.

Not sure I'm interested in another car/racing MMO after AA.

A racing MMO is highly unlikely, unless you go by the MMORPG.com definition of MMO, so that anything with at least 1 non instanced zone is an mmo. If this is a AA type game, where racin is just a part of the bigger picture, then great.

What are you guys talking about? This is no rumor, it has already been confirmed it will be a racing game, its mentioned in the email send to everyone who signed up.

If it is true I can see how it would work. Start with a crappy car, win races(street or drag), get new cars/parts etc as the progression. However it is really a niche game. Generally people who like cars don't have tons of time to play online games. They are generally busy working to get more money to get more parts to put on their cars. The concept however doesn't really add to the epic-ness that people want from playing an MMO. You could only really race a few people at a time. I just don't think that I would want to play it when you can just play games like Need for Speed, Grand Turismo, and the like.

I have mixed feelings about this. One one end, I like racing games. A LOT, especially the NFS & GT franchises. The concept of a racing MMO is appealing. On the other end, I only play racing games on consoles, since analog controls provide much more steering and throttle control than a keyboard ever could. Twitch steering doesn't cut it.

I suppose I could buy a wheel for my PC, but that would be like cheating on your keyboard and mouse. :)

You guys really aren't seeing the big picture here...

Think outside the box, that is, after all, the whole point of the Top Secret project.

You're right. There are several ways to approach a racing game after all. It doesn't need you to do the racing itself, and it doesn't need to be cars. Thank you for reminding us that.

Yeah auto assault was a huge let down for me they couldn't even get the driving experience down right let along making the game compelling to play for any extended lengths of time. If it had turned out the way I was hoping it could've been a good or decent at least they really just need a carmageddon, twisted metal, mario kart type of mmo mix  the best of the three and make it massive and you'd have a successful game on your hands I mean basically that's all wow did was refine EQ into a better newer game.

Don't be so narrow-minded, who said that racing has to be done with cars? It can be cross-country skiing or nordic walking if the idea is good enough :)

They should do a airship/spaceship racing game where your tracks are tunnel-forms marked with milestone rings. Drifting no longer gets confined to a 2D plane.

It'll be sad if they pull off a Need for Speed Online... but I trust Dave to be creative in guiding the project.

I had the idea of doing a cyberpunk 2020 style world wuith a Running Man style race game involved.  If you Over PvP against noobs or kill too many Corporate NPC's of a certain faction (I.e. cops) you get arrested.  Then you face off against a Game that Anyone in the game can attend/ bet on/ watch on city  wide scoreboards.   Your guild could kill the arresting force as they come to get you and you'd be off the hook or you could team up with the other people in the dungeon to finish the race. Unfortunately this could mean teaming up with a warring guild or you could just watch him die.  Losing this game/ race could mean losing all gear and money you have on your toon at the time of death.

Of course,  since that might keep many from doing the things to get arrested they would fill their ranks for the race with a random lottery of all existing players or you could frame/ blackmail/ netrun someone and get their name on the list.

Id post this to the game but I dont know where.

Not only the news is very stale (members were informed on march 15th), but the online presses are echoing them in an uncertain form to gain credibility and to hide their inability properly deliver news when they mattered.

What's the point of communicating a news that is a week old? Just because these last two days a bunch of site woke up and forged the "rumor", maybe because the MMOG scene lacks news these days?

What's the next huge news about the secret project? That is said by "unconfirmed" sources that the participants are being tasked to play as much racing games possible and some constraints has been laid out to better direct the preliminary brainstorming phase?

(this is sarcasm, all these news here were in the first project official mail)

Wonder if we can get some tricycles in it for the little ones to use. Giant hamster balls would be good as well.

The forums went live, but there was too much traffic... LOL. I'm still waiting for them to get more hardware setup so Acclaim's php forum code can run properly with all of the traffic they are getting. This is like some mmo launches i've experienced. :0

It is pathos we lack, and this lack of pathos makes the worlds we explore quite stale.

The problem with noncar racing games is that the more unusal it gets the more it loses the racing audience which is by no means large on the pc market.

No, the whole point of the "TopSecret" project is to con gullible suckers into thinking that "crowd sourcing" is a viable development model and not just some Viral Marketing buzzword scam from AckLame.  Jeez, wake up people.

Exactly, strictly a marketing gimmick.  Let me just say that the investment community is wise to these scammers, they do not have the skills to make a MMO.  If you are dumb enough to give them free ideas, you are a fool.
