Hunters...what are they like ?

ArawonArawon Member Posts: 1,108
I like archers as a class. I know they may be the most popular in LOTR. Would you be kind enough to share your experiences and impressions of what its like to play a hunter..including harvesting ..crafting...and farming. Thanks.

Pre-cu ranger in swg with a bow and duel weilding. They do the alot of damage in combat with a bow, plus have some melee moves. Great for fighting stuff 1v1, but get a mob of 3 on ya and you're in trouble. They're considered the "nuker" class in LOTR. My favorite class too.

By the time you reach level 50, you'll be able to transport yourself or your whole group to Bree, Thorin's Hall, Rivendale or the Ranger camp in the Northern Downs.

You'll be able to fire arrows of light against evil foe, or fire arrows at normal monsters. You'll have a few crowd control tricks as well. You do heavy dps, so in groups you need to be aware of avoiding drawing all the agro.

As far as crafting, you can choose crafts that allow you to make your own bow and armor. You can also make campfires that are needed to cook food that you use to buff yourself.

You can solo easily until you reach the mid 30's, and at 50, you'll need to team in the upper level areas. Even mobs 7 levels below you can kill you because of their numbers and placement in the end game zones.

Its the fastest class at farming hides in my opinion, because you don't have to chase everything.

I've loved Hunter in LOTRO.  The animation and sound effects of drawing and shooting with the bow are the most realistic I've seen.  Very powerful and graceful.

Very good on DPS, as long as there are good Guardians and Champions in the group near your level you shouldn't draw the aggro.  I tend to just focus on the main target of those characters in a group fight then tab to the next beastie.  Your campfires help everyone take a break and heal up more quickly.  Traps slow down attacks and give you an oportunity to fight multiple targets with a better chance of success.

On your own you do need to take creatures on one or two at a time when you're at your own level, and one at a time when you're the same or up to three levels above you.  Just pick them off from the outer edges till you get the job done.

Because I have Hunter as my main character I choose Explorer as the craft.  This character is always at the forefront of my travels so I let them gather resources, recipes and goodies for the others.  Also, the Hunter can use the Light and Medium armours theTailor profession crafts so it is a good match.

At higher levels, the Hunter has the ability to fast travel to many areas of Middle Earth, and bring a group along, very useful and a very free, unbound character.  Great for the true adventurer.

    Farming produce:

You grow row crops (berries/vegetables) that are used in cooking food.  Farming is helpful for cooks because it reduces your food cost for cooks if they can avoid buying ingredients from vendors. End-game food (level 40 - 50) costs a fortune. So if you have access to produce, it is extremely helpful.
Food in LOTRO is a BIG deal, because you can't buy healing or energy drinks from vendors, you must use FOOD to heal/regain strength/buff attributes.
Camp fires come in ONE size (small), but you can use them to cook "Trail Rations" (These are foods that buff player stats). Any race or class can start a "CRAFTED" camp fire, but these require resources/vendor mats/player crafting and they aren't cheap.
