Given the numbers they are expecting ( see other threads ) this is a great question. I would love to know.
I expect this weekend to be a bit crazy.

My only concern is they are launching with seven servers.
I was kind of hoping for at least 10.
The server can handle alot of ppl but not the zone. In pvmp and last day of close beta it showed the game cant even handle more than 50 ppl in the same area.
The devs said they have plenty of servers ready to roll. They're going to need it...

The post listing the seven server names also said that these were the first to be announced.
The second stress test ran amazingly well, (full server, I was queued), and that plus the data gathered from last night's shindigs probably gave the devs an excellent idea of what to expect. Open beta will provide more data. Founders (only?) being able to keep their characters from open beta means that on launch day, those characters will not be using the creation tools, and will not be in the starting areas.
I imagine that Turbine will be a little light on servers initially; better to guess low than to be saddled with excess bandwidth costs. It's a lot easier to add servers in the first week or two than to have to merge later.
From sales figures, it seems that an unusually high percentage of the players will be Founders. That should help.
