If any of you visit their forums, maybe I'm not alone in thinking that this community is taking itself to serious? I have seen people on the official forums get bashed for not having read the books, being a player from another game gets you labeled a 12 year old, PvP fans should all go play FPS and if you are not a role player, you have no place in going to some servers. Examples of this look:

I have been in beta and most people are cool, but I hope that it does not become too much of an uptight community.

Compared to the vanguard beta community, LOTRO was a dream. There is some of what you mentioned, but i would say that there is much less of that snob style attitude than other games. I think everyone who follows the game understands that there is going to be a rather large casual following, so that will be the majority.
In fact alot of the very extreme tolken fans have taken a stance against LOTRO. They seem to have wanted some sort of Middle Earth simulator.
I wouldn't worry too much about community in LOTRO.
Just my 2cp.

There is definitely an old guard there which has been around for over 4 years, most very nice, some very inflexible. That will naturally give way shortly to a more evenly balanced group of players, as anything does.
I think you'll find the people who have been playing beta and who answer your questions in OOC to be among the best and most helpful players you could find. So welcome to Middle Earth, its a wonderful place.
I noticed a bit of what you mention during the beta, mostly coming through the /ooc and /advice channels. It didn't bother me for long, mostly because the chat in this game, no matter where you were, was like being staked to a post in The Barrens. I have never been so glad to finally find the chat filter options in a game. The difference was like day and night.
The examples you linked to seem to be pretty common in most gaming communities. If anything I think the LOTRO community has had some pretty well-spoken individuals, and not just the HARDCORE-Tolkien fans.
One thread was about PvP (and someone's opinion of why it shouldn't be in LOTRO other than how it's implemented with monster play) and the other was just reminding people to think and breath before they go posting (and someone predictably brought up WoW and bashed it). Both seem to be along the lines of a pretty common "topic" or thought as an upcoming beta looms. I'm not really sure what is taken so "seriously" in the examples you gave that aren't apparent in most games, but if it's general attitudes of people, just remember those players came from another game (at least in alot of cases, and probably a good number of the ones who use forums)
On a whole, I wouldn't be too worried. It's community will be like that of a lot of games out there, meaning you will have the people you are glad to meet, the ones you're glad to avoid, and everyone else in between.
