Prime example as to why Mythic will NOT have official forums.
Mythic will probably do a lot of things right when they create WAR Online....
But this isn't one of them.....
There are so many things that are positive about not having official boards. Have you ever been to the WoW forums? Whining, Crying, complaining about simple things. The forums there are the reason on the little tidbits like the "I kill 2 dwarves" /silly were removed. If someone posts something that gets deleted it is immediately Blizzard is against us! Then go to the player community forums like worldofraids, Curse-Gaming, etc. Those forums are soooo much better than the official forums for having an intelligent conversation than just getting L2p LAWL NOOB!
Pros:
Better Communities
Better Community administration(on official forums they have to be PC, but on player forums they can delete/ban whoever they want)
More man power dedicated to game improvement instead of forum administration.
Less group think.
Now on the topic of WAR on the WoW forums. It is hilarious you can see the WAR fans vs the fanbois go at it and the ONLY thing that the fanbois can come back with is that WAR looks horrible but have no backing for the statement. Then they try and say the interface is stolen but almost EVERY MMO has had a ability bar, Map, player portrait, and bag slots. Personally I don't care if ANY WoW players like WAR because I am willing to bet there is already 200k+ players that aren't playing WoW that are going to pick up WAR. The less of the WoW-ish community that comes the better.

I'll write down cons for you. It seems you accidentally forgot about them.
1) No centralized source of information where you can solve your problems.
2) Much less people->forums aren't very active->less good info.

1) No centralized source of information where you can solve your problems.
2) Much less people->forums aren't very active->less good info.
3) Can't communicate with people from your realm. 1. Mythic has a robust feedback system and knowledge base in place for DAoC. It was easier for me to find solutions to my problems in DAoC than it ever was in WoW.
2. Less activity doesn't mean it lacks good information. I never used the WoW forums for any information about the game. I always used Thottbot, Allakhazam and other sites like these for my information.
3. I played on a few different servers in DAoC and always was able to communicate anything I needed. Someone from the realm set up a specific site for us to use to communicate. Was much more effective. The server boards on the WoW forums are horrible wastes of space.
I am glad Mythic isn't going the route of official forums. All I need from them is the WAR Herald with links to the vital information and the feedback forms. As a side note, the Camelot Herald has an abundance of information about the game and it's all much easier to find than similar information about WoW on the WoW official site. That's why I am perfectly ok with no official forums.
If it's so important to you, why don't you go on other forums and stop visiting the official one? Simple as that.
Nobody is forcing you to stay. Why should other players be forced to go and look for active forums?
There's a convenient link on warhammeronline.com that says "Forums and Fansites" and it lists the active ones. Also in each newsletter they highlight forums listing their strengths.
I can see your points, but they're solving them with that one little link on the main site.

1) No centralized source of information where you can solve your problems.
2) Much less people->forums aren't very active->less good info.
3) Can't communicate with people from your realm. 1.They are going to use their website believe it is the War Herald to make all big/little announcements. They will also have a much more robust information database than the basic this is the characters, this is the world, you can craft, you can kill, blah blah blah. If that isn't what centralized is that I don't know what is.
2. I always found the best info on other boards. More activity usually means that the more important information is buried under "NERF THIS BECAUSE I DON'T LIKE IT!".
3. It doesn't cost much if anything(if you know the right person) to set up a forum for your realm. Heaven forbid you have to use ingame communication to communicate. Generally realm forums are used for pissing contests between the factions. Go to the WoW realm forums and look and see how many, "I hate this person", "XXXXX you suck", "My guild is better than yours" etc on there...very rarely does any GOOD information come from there. However my experience with the SWG forums, flurry ftw, was pretty good. There was a lot of general chatting and overall it had positive overtones with minimal pissing matches. It really depends on the type of community the game has and I believe that having player moderated forums will provide a positive community rather than the negative one that is on the WoW official forums. Again, if you want the realm type forum then by all means set up your own and you then have control over what happens. Heck the bigger WAR fansites will probably put up forums for each realm if people donate. I think you just need to experience a game that doesn't have an official forum to really understand what it brings to the table.
Back in the Day I used to play MU online when it was free because I was bored and couldn't afford a game. They only had a message board where it was spammed with people asking stupid questions. However the biggest fansite, MuHQ i think it was, had an awesome community, trading forums, general forums, etc. It was an awesome community until the game didn't deal with hackers and the password database was released...but thats a whole other story.
" Persuade me then, me, who is a long time customer of Blizzard. I played war II, to WoW.
I bought the game for LORE and im staying to see the story continue. Im NOT buying a game i NEVER heard of."
That's a quote from the WoW boards and it pretty much states my opinion upon WoW fanboys. Ignorant and consumed...
Exactly.
Warhammer has more LORE than almost any other game out there (I said almost..).
Warhammer existed before Warcraft did anyway. Besides, it doesnt surprise me that a WoW fanatics hasnt heard of Warhammer. You need to log off WoW in order to learn about anything outside of the WoW universe. People who play WoW long enough forget how to do things, like:
Player 1: "How do we get children?"
Player 2: "I dunno, are they on the auction house?"
Woah! Hold up, guys, we don't need another arguement about Official Forums just yet. We just dusted ourselves off from the last one. But, if you want to see all the different sides of the debate, go check out:
Omg...I can only imagine the hell the WoW posters here are going to face as they near the launch of that game. Yall think WoW vs VG was bad...WoW vs War is gonna take the cake.
You need to heed caution before hyping a game that hasn't been fully tested, nor has anyone really fully experienced it. To me making pock shots at another game, be it WoW, Vanguard, EQ 2, etc. is just extremely immature.
Be careful, remember that before Vanguard came out, there were so many, many out there trying to replace some of the other games with Vanguard as top dog. Now? Well, go to the forums now and read all the confusion there.
WAR will get it's chance at the end of the year to beta test and then, several months later go open beta, and by that time we'll know. So, patience for about a year.

But DAoC was. Archers one-shotting people without breaking stealth I remember. Fun if you were an archer, I suppose.
Originally posted by Huria Can some one explain something to me. The game isn't even out yet and people are saying "best thing ever", "wow killer", "#1 MMO" . How do you know all of this. What if the game is the most clunkiest thing ever? At least play the game before spamming crap like that.
While there is some truth to what you are saying, Im pretty confident in saying at the very least that its NOT the clunkiest thing ever because the small beta they have out has received great reviews from every gaming magazing/site that have played it.
Think about this, people are saying the same things about Age Of Conan WITHOUT a great playable demo.
It's a blast reading the WoW forums anyway ^^ It gladdens me there aren't gonna be any OF in WAR. WoW OF are so filled with nonsense it's hard to get any constructive or quality-rich content out of them anyways. People there just wanna have fun!
And I guess more forums over the net are gonna be lively and many small communities being forged around the many forums all over the net.
