Races Left Out

Anyone think the

Bretonnians

Lizardmen

Ogres

Skaven

Tomb Kings

Vampire Counts

and

Wood Elves

were left out for use as NPCs, RP quests or will be added in expansions?

Perhaps there is another game in the works that will be more PVE and will incorporate these other races?

Looking at the armies on http://store.us.games-workshop.com/storefront/store.us?do=List_Models&code=304471&orignav=13&GameNav=13

These races all look interesting.

Of course I know nothing of WH lore so I don't know if the races mentioned above would fit with this story line.

Of those races, Bretonnians, Lizardmen, Skaven and Wood Elves would be races for human player control.

Just from some info on the site, you could have paird up the Bretonnians with the Ratmen Skaven.

"The Skaven are a race of evil rat-men who inhabit the underground of the Warhammer world. They gnaw at the roots of civilization, preparing for the day when their uncountable hordes will overrun the surface world."

    and

The Wood Elves against the Lizardmen

"Long before the rise of Elves, Dwarfs or Men, the Lizardmen existed in the oppressive depths of the steaming jungles. Coldly alien and enigmatic, their civilisation seeks to restore the order in the world that their Old One creators envisaged before their mysterious disappearance. They are a dangerous and powerful civilisation, and any who enter their lands do so at their own peril.

Although some accuse the Lizardmen as slow to react, or primitive, these reptilian warriors are savage combatants on the tabletop. Their natural ferocity, strength, and armor as well as the unmatched mastery of magic which the Slaan possess makes them devastating opponents for any army to face on the battlefield.

The Lizardmen also possess a wide variety of troops, from fast-moving flyers, to aquatic and skirmishing scouts, to army-crushing monstrosities which make them more than a match for anything the more "civilized" races have to offer."

I hope all those races make it in.

Variety is the spice of life. I really liked daoc for that. So many different types of classes and it wasnt as easy to identify your attacker but it made things
    a whole lot more interesting.

Hopefully they will be releasing new classes/races sooner than daoc and wow did.

That would be an interesting game

2 human races, dwarves, high elves and wood elves

    vs

Chaos hoard, dark elves, greenskins, skaven(ratmen) and lizardmen

    Thats a battle

Bretonnia - "The knights of Bretonnia are feared and respected throughout the world. Men of valor and honor, they are exceptional warriors and guardians of their land that was founded upon the most heroic of ideals. For none can stand against their glorious charge. A Bretonnian army will contain a mix of the best of the best, such as the Grail Knights and Bretonnian Men-At-Arms. Combine this with some truly unique troop types such as Pegasus Knights and the Grail Reliquae and Pilgrims and the enemies of the Lady will dread ever having taken to the field of battle."

    Empire  -

High Elves - "An ancient and proud race, the High Elves have refined their martial skills and magical prowess over the centuries. The High Elves are an elite army of very powerful troops. While each individual warrior is more than a match for the average soldier of the Warhammer World, the High Elf army will often be smaller in numbers than the forces of other races."

    Dwarves -

Wood elves - "strength and cunning, leading invaders to their doom in the darkest tangles of the thickest woods. The Wood Elves have mastered the art of the hit-and-run attack. a standard Wood Elf tactic is to harass encroaching enemies with missile fire, and then as the foe closes, the sylvan folk fade back into the safety of dense terrain."

    Chaos -

    Green Skin -

Dark Elves - "Cold and heartless, the armies of Dark Elves launch raids that enslave thousands, whilst every day hundreds are sacrificed on the altars of the dark god Khaine, Lord of Murder. The Dark Elves are a fast and highly skilled race and may field many specialized elite units in their army. There is nothing that a Dark Elf army does poorly, except perhaps fighting in long drawn-out battles of attrition."

Skaven - "On their own, Skaven troops are almost invariably outclassed by their enemies. Skaven, though, have one main thing on their side: numbers. They can deploy a large amount of large units, and their morale is bolstered by the presence of so many of their kind."

Lizardmen- "Although some accuse the Lizardmen as slow to react, or primitive, these reptilian warriors are savage combatants on the tabletop.

There's a really good post about this in the WarhammerAlliance site. Linky for you: www.warhammeralliance.com/forums/showthread.php

It explains, lore-wise, a lot about each race and what they're all about. They also talk a bit about what the next logical pairing could be, the general consensus tending towards Skaven vs. Lizardmen, and Wood Elves vs. Beasts of Chaos. The rest of the armies don't fit thematically as well as the ones mentioned when pitched against each other, and people in that forum were pairing up Bretonnia vs. the Vampire Counts, not without its share of heavy disagreement though, just to give an example of the discussion.

In any case that link is an awesome read if you're a newcomer to WH lore

I don't have the link readily available but this was brought up in an interview not too long ago.  There is every intention of bringing the other races into the game, most likely in expansions.  But by limiting the number of classes and the initial races they are able to make a more focused, balanced, entertaining game.  By building a strong foundation they will be able to add and balance additional content far easier than if they threw everything including the kitchen sink in initially.

That is the best approach imo. Too much at once can be cumbersome to balance, and in a game based on PVP balance is everything.

I'm getting way ahead of myself here but, if the game becomes the success we're all hoping it will and they do add an expansion pack, I could easily see a "Lustria" Xpack adding the Lizardmen for Order and the Skaven for Destruction.

Lizardmen...no if's and's or but's...would have to be sided with order.  They would commit mass suicide before they'd ever side with chaos.  The only race that's not yet in, that has any sort of tie in with the lizardmen is the skaven (Clan Pestilens has been having it out with the lizards for centuries, and the lizardmen consider skaven spawns of chaos that need to be made extinct).  SO, barring some new lore being added, I'd be looking for that combination long before any others.

I want Beasts of Chaos vs. Wood Elves! Both races would be awesome: Wood Elves because they're elves that are actually cool, and Beasts of Chaos because... well, damn, they're fricking Beasts of Chaos! You've never wanted to play as an evil, warped centaur or minotaur?

If you want a real harsh death penalty, go play Russian Roulet. - Hamzal

This is a prime example of Mythic learning from their early problems in DAoC. Three realms each with 8+ classes with multiple spec lines per is a nightmare to try and balance from the start of a game. So with WAR, they streamlined it to 2 realms with 4 classes. Still lots of variety in the various professions, but based on the smaller footprint from the get go, it's going to be much easier to add to it later without having the same kinds of problems.

Erm, with your wording you make it sound like there's only going to be 8 total careers.  It's 4 careers per race, 3 races per side, 2 sides...so there will in fact be 24 total careers.  It will in fact be a balancing headache, but they've had lots of practice, I have faith.

All the races that are not PC will be in the game as NPC. I don't know what gave you the idea that they wouldn't.
  • JuggyJugsJuggyJugs Member Posts: 64

well thats interesting.  Lizardmen on the side of order.

It would give order a warmongering horde ally to fight all the other hoards.

  • JuankisJuankis Member UncommonPosts: 166
Lizardm,en are not really warongers, if you don't mess with their stuff they'll leave you alone, off course they wehre the first people to get everywhere, and so have lots of stuff all over the place for you not to mess with.
  • JuggyJugsJuggyJugs Member Posts: 64
Alright so lizard men it is.

That would give order an ugly toon that those "unconventional" people would want to play with.  There are ugly sides of good.
