Ok, now I went and got the 7day trail offer.
Problem 1. Got the CD Key and it took 6 tries to get it to finally work
Problem 2. Finally after inputting all my information, all servers but 1 are down. I d/l the very lengthy patch needed and it crashes at 85% and now all servers are down for the next 3hours.
Problem 3. Finally install and run the game, and its really laggy. I don't understand it, no matter what server I played on it was laggy.
Problem 4: Ran around a start town for 15mins and say 1 person run by thats it.
Finally got the game to work, and its hard to believe this is being sold in stores, there are plenty of betas out there that blow this away. I must say the music is truly amazing.
Also please note it has the a horrible interface and its extremly slow, you log on through their website, and it takes about 2mins to 5mins before the game fully loads. My computer is upto date and I never have problems with any software, I am not one to post this type of stuff, but I felt the games extremly poorly made and extremly poorly set up.....
I would highly recommened avoiding this "Software" at all costs....
Thanks

I have to agree with this 100%.
I won one of the mmorpg 90 day giveaways. So I thought I'd give it a try. I downloaded the 7 day trial. And I'm very glad it was a FREE 7 day trial. Of course it took me about an hour and a half to realize this game was a dog. Ok, it's pretty enough, the character creation is well done and the music is good. That is where the good things end.
Lag is insane! Plus the servers are deserted. And I know why. Try playing a mage, you have to craft your own spells (ok I can deal) with a system more obtuse and convoluted that "a tale in the desert" and that's saying something!
So, if anyone want's my free 90 day key or whatever it is they'll give me, you're more than welcome to it...
Just one question for MrSkippy: Is this your first MMORPG? Because it sounds like it is, which is fine. I am glad you find fun, but also I wonder what else you played?
Well hot dog! We have a weiner!
Mr. Skippy is the happy winner of my free 90 day code. I hope you enjoy it more than I did. Of course I enjoyed a spinal tap more than playing horizons so...
Seriously I'm glad you like the game. As soon as they get the code to me, I'll PM you and give you the info.
I liked the game during beta, had a great time with it, but I don't think I could give money to it. Already it seems a little outdated and login problems still exist, which is pathetic after all of this time.
Guys don't get too excited... this game is pretty buggy... I've been playing the 7 day trial an I think I have about had it with this game. If this was a beta test I'd just be annoyed but understanding... but I think at some point they are going to ask for money?!?!? ya right... good freaking luck with that endeavor.
The login is really bad...
- You have to actually login twice with your email addy and PW to actually play the game...
- You can't change characters without loggin out...
Zone times are insane and dragon characters are all bugged to hell...
- You have to sit/cancel all actions almost every time you attack
- Get ready for some lag...
There is so little help/info about this game from the company that markets it, very sad. You have no idea what to train for your class or even really where to train... You can't get training points back once spent. It's not that it's a terrible system (just bad) it's the complete lack of information of what your doing... it's trial and error where there errors can really mess you up after spending all that time leveling...
I'd say scratch Horizons off your list... next?

Well, I see that some people are finding joy with this game. Which I think is great, I gain nothing by you playing and paying them money.
I really would just wish that when a game has a beta they fix the bugs BEFORE the release, ok I know all of them can't be, but mostly could be.
Playing Horizons feels like a very limited beta to and upcoming game. Also there is no way I could believe that people playing the beta didn't complain about the very long and slow logon process. I also can't believe that there isn't a front end loader to axcess the game and you need to log on twice to the website.
I would much rather prefer that instead of scratch this game off your list that the developers see whats going on and make changes, and hold their game off until its ready.
I was just at E3 and the new generation of MMORPGs BLOW AWAY almost everything out there right now, some developers are listening....
Look at it this way everygame you pay for is a vote, that there doing it right. If your not happy don't pay....
Simple....
I played it and found some things wrong with it.
Why would they make you go through a website to get to the game. And it takes forever to get into it.
The good things are, it is just getting started. There is a great story. You buy land, and you get to be a dragon.

One tip about performance that I read on another forum: switch from FAT32 to NTFS.
HZ uses a lot of small files. In my build (I haven't updated in a little over a month) there are just under 40k files in over 1600 folders. With FAT32, this equates to a lot of unused space, effectively increasing the amount that needs to be read. I noticed load times drop by around 1/3rd after moving HZ to an NTFS partition. Still painfully slow, but it was slightly more bearable.
My biggest shock or "wtf?!?" moment came during around the 3rd month. There an event going on with werewolves attacking Dalimond. One of the quests associated with that gave a reward of a silver whistle and elm reed. You could use the whistle to gain a temporary accuracy bonus. If you used the whistle too many times, it would run out of charges and you would have to replace the reed, recharging it.
So using adventurer skills, I went out and helped to repel the werewolves, got the necessary drop, ran around the world to talk to the necessary NPCs to get the formula, used skills from 3 different crafting classes to gather the materials and make the items. I tried using one and it worked. I tried giving one to my friend, and he used it. Then a few minutes later, he tried to use it again, and nothing. He tried applying an elm reed. Nothing. Like all other charged items that were in the game before, they were set to 20 charges when they were made, but if you try to trade the items, they go to 1 charge. Of course, this could be exploited to still work, if you traded an item with 0 charges, it would also go to 1 charge and use it that way. Recharging didn't work at all, however.
It's not that things were broken; playing an MMO from day one, I've come to expect a few bugs here and there. But the fact that they were introducing NEW broken items into the game left me aghast. From what I've heard, some of the issues with charged items were fixed in the last month, two months after these broken items were introduced. To me, this indicates horrible internal communication within AE.
As a ex-beta tester for Horizons and a 6 week subscriber upon release this game should have never been released in the state that it was period. The last day of beta alone David Bowman assured us testers they had a magic copy hid away that we didn't even get to see and if we would just purchase the release we would see so many new, exciting, different things that were unavailable to us in beta. Well horse shit! The game should have never been released in the state int was in period. It needed a good 8 months more of beta easily.
The other problem was that as testers we were consistently left in the dark the communication was null to void and it seemed futile to even continue posting the same bugs repeatedley that could never get fixed and went on to haunt the release. 100 % player run economies don't work period! History has shown this repeatedley just look at AC2 and SWG now they started to add drops not too long ago because they were losing player base.
There was absolutely no high level content at release and the mob selection was pretty pitiful to begin with anyhow. How many damn times can a adventurer type player kill golems for craft supplies??? Dropping boss's yeilded little gold and a supply or 2. The adventurer's left in droves and when you have no fighters to defend towns, cities, or buy crafted goods, crafting becomes useless as do player run economies. Adventurer's need incentive to go explore etc. it is what drives us in solo rpg's and what drives us in MMO's.
I could go on and on but it is futile the crafting lover will rave this game but the game is usless with a 1000 crafters running around and no one to off your wares too. The original vision of Horizons would have rocked that was the game I followed from the beginning but alas we got David Bowman's ignorant dragon scheme instead. Artifact will never see another penny from me again I'll tell you that much and if anyone wants to debate any of this go to the original forum boards www.tazoon.com they still might have the old beta forum posts up for browsing. The majority of testers were thoroughly disgusted.
The game is pretty but pretty graphics don't get it for me. I been gaming far too long and I would accept mediocre graphics for better gameplay any day. These developers need to learn from history and past MMO mistakes we are going into what now the 4th generation of MMORPG's? One would think someone would get it right at some point but no we continue to get bombarded with garbage like this, cookie cutter crap, and copies of more crap!
By the way for those that still love this game and play it go and clean out your temporary cache every other day of old files. Horizons eats up your hardrive another issue contributing partially to lag is the massive amount of data it needs to read. When the game patches it doesn't delete old files or copy over them it stores them in a folder. They claim this is how they can better serve you the customer when a bug arises ( Like they don't have many they still can't fix ) for a snapshot/log but fail to tell you that your hardrive is being stressed to the limits.
Another problem that any of you will enjoy is when you try to cancel your account have fun with that as well. Some of the worst customer service in history resides with the whole game.
All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.

It had so much promise....
Crafting was going to be so important! Well I could make 500 helmets with a single click, pity they were so worthless the only use of them was to melt down for ore. This I did, over and over again to raise my skill. I have never been so bored in my life. That is when I could stay online, don't try this game if you have a modem connection.
I've had an active account since Horizons was released. I juggled playing EQ with it, but I've dumped my EQ account and play Horizons exclusivly now. No, not because I think Horizons is better than EQ, but I needed a change. Many of the bugs in Horizons aren't as bad as people make them out to be. Yes, crafting can fall into the pointless drudgery that people have referenced here, but be thankful you can craft 500 helmets at the same time, and the fact that you can gain experience from deconstructing them to regain some of your crafting materials. If you've tried crafting in EQ, you'll understand what a relief it is to be able to do something with the items that you've made. I can't tell you how many stupid items I made (that had absolutely no value because the player crafted crap in EQ is exactly that... crap) on the road to obtaining my shawl. The quests in Horizons are mainly kill, rinse, repeat... but occasionally they toss in an odd quest from your trainer for a nice item. Hell, at level 20 I obtained a decent new helmet from the warrior trainer after killing 30 level 20 creatures. And if you really don't like to fight but want to explore, I encourage you to talk to Gregory Darkstaff in Dalimond. Most of his quests involve running all over hell and creation to talk to different people and obtain items from them.
I'm not sure about dragons, since I didn't really want to play one to begin with. From what I've heard, they're pretty buggy though.
The graphics are nice, and you can definetly feel the difference when you walk into an area that's benn taken over by the Withered Aegis. The developers are working on more mobs, and everymonth there's some type of event going on. If you're interested in the game, give it a try. The game doesn't cost but $30 at Best Buy nowadays. Most of the players are extremely friendly and won't hesitate to lend you a helping hand if you ask. Hell, if you want to learn the ropes and need someone to help you out, feel free to shoot me a tell in game.
Nykoa of the Twilight Server
and
Ohauk of the Blight Server (Blight is the test server and the population is VERY low. I would only suggest this server to people who want to be left alone and do everything, including crafting, for themselves.)
