Here are some of my questions that I am hoping a beta tester from these forums either now or later could fill out for me in a little more detail...
1) I really enjoy pvping in games - I understand that there is going to be the option to play as a monster and level it as opposed to your actual character by spending points(?) I think to up it or your characters abilities... Any more info on this would be nice.... Like if the monsters of equal points spent actually have a chance versus a player character with equal points to the monster or if the monster play is more of a get butchered by players due to glaring monster ability weaknesses...
2) Crafting - I watched the crafting video and about gathering etc.. I like the idea of gathering ore of different value so that not every Silver sword I make will be great... Is there any more info on this? Any information on the quality of items changing based on the combine qualities of the crafter, ore, difficulty etc...
3) Uniqueness --- I am looking for a game where my character can be unique... The fact that LOTRO isn't skill based but class based is a real problem for me... I do however understand that you can still have a unique character in different ways by specializing etc... I am wondering how the character creation is ??? A lot of options or pitiful few like WoW?
How about the art? Is the art direction of the game make the environment and characters look out of place of one another ala Vanguard?
Movement? Does it feel like your touching the actual ground and moving? Can you almost feel the ground beneath your feet? I notice that in WoW it's one of the more polished features.

One more thing - How about the grind? Is it particularly bad... As in the replayability for having mulitple characters a pain? Or actually fun? I know that is a relative term for a player to decide... I am just wondering what kind of grind to expect?

2) As you level up in crafting, you gain the ability to use rare trophy drops and even rare crafting tools to increase your chance to hit "Critical" (crits) when crafting. When you succeed, you get PURPLE items that people lust after.
3) Character creation is much more robust in LOTRO than it is in WoW, but nothing compared City of Heroes. Everyone can have very varied character depending on how you decide to build up skills/race traits/virtues/class traits as your character grows. Two avatars my end up wearing a few similar items of armor, but could be poles apart as far as abilities and fighting styles.
4) Yes, trudging along running over hill and dale, you feel the weight of your armor.
5) You do NOT gain XP by killing monsters, get that out of your head. All XP is gained through quests, and story telling is the strong suit of this game. If you build characters of different races the replay-ability should be high, because each race has its on starting zone. There are currently 1,500 quests for launch with more being made every day.

Are the monster controlled characters competative? Say in 1 vs 1 or Group of Monsters controlled by characters versus player group?
In the Pvs.MP zone its foolish for a player (hero) or player (monster) to solo unless they are just doing quests and run and hide when they see trouble.
In an even up fight between a group of veteran monster and an evenly matched party of heroes the fight will go to those that best play like a team and play smart.
My favorite monster is the warg. It has a really effective stealth mode and a nice hamstring attack that slows a victim.
Tip: I gave my monsters generic names that were similar to those found in the zone in order to better blend in, and it worked.

Seems like from what I can gather you are saying that is at least fairly balanced...
Can you craft things as a monster and use that fraction of the game or just upgrade via spending points? or what? : )
oops, also wanted to add can I use equipment slots to better my monster when playing him... can I return to the same created monster? Can the monster progress in the same fashion that a player can? ^^

Yes you could play a monster exclusively, and make them VERY powerful, but there is no crafting for monsters at this time. You can't even use drops. You sell everything to buy potions and traits. Thats how you improve your monster, by buying traits. Traits increase your speed/attack strenght/armor/etc. and even unlock new attacks and abilities.
Yes, you return to the same monsters that you create. Because of a current bug in BETA, you can only have 5 characters and that would include a monster. So, you could have 3 heroes and 2 monsters. Now this is a bug and they are working to correct it. When it works properly you'll be able to have 5 heroes and 5 monsters.

So monsters scaling towards players with better gear will likely have a vastly upswing in power where as my monster will eventually hit a cap in power? =/ Dang, that saddens me, as a player who wants to play a monster- nearly exclusively.
Seems like as players reach toward the end game - they will be cap'd in the amount of skills and abilities they can learn but continue to progress in power through items where as a monster will eventually hit a roof and fall behind the power cruve... If that's true I think that the PvM system will be a novelty and not much else. =/
Does gear matter so much that you believe it will cause monsters to fall behind in player power as the players and monsters hit the caps for traits, skills, combat abilities etc... and then mobs can't get gear and players continue to progress through items?? Or have you experienced enough of that kind thing to know one way or the other?
Not to worry.
The menu for monster enhancements is long and the more powerful items (abilities) are expensive. You can also stack buffs of monsters with temporary buffs you purchase for that session.
There are quests in the PvP zone and raids for castles. It'll be quite in the beginning, as there won't be any 50's to fight for a while.
And if you are interested, as you kill more and more players, you not only grow stronger, you have gold stars next to your name warning other of how dangerous you are. lol

I just wanna make sure I don't invest time to get to be the best monster that I can be and then end up just being a novelty character to get butchered by the good guys..... I just really dont wanna waste my time leveling a monster if I cant stay competative in "end game" ....
Come on Keogh, help sell me on my pre-order....

Not at all looking to be the most uber l33t from the get go quick dirty and easy way... I am instead looking at it from a point of view of not wanting to churn out ranking up a monster to find it not to be competative.. That's all.
Anyways, I drove to gamestop bought it installed it and patched it tonight... See you all Friday.
