Does anyone else here think that Dark and Light might be too ambitious? And that the game will get a significant trimming down before it is finally released. I remember Horizons had a huge amount of hype surrounding the game before it came out, and then when it was eventually released, a huge number of gamers were very disappointed because the final product was significantly toned down from what the original concept of the game had been?
It's nice to see an MMORPG being made by a less well known developer, but will they run out of the resources to implement all their grand ideas into the final game?
Anyway, everyone should let me know what they think about this!

Horizons wasnt Toned down. It was Set on a table. chopped up, and the biggest peice left was put into release. That game was a poor excuse for an alpha stage much less a full release. Although I heard it has improved alot but they still lack all the major features promised at release.
I think Most MMO's are to ambitious in there development. Most are pushed into retail by there publishers and investor(s). Because They dont care about the game after they get there money. Doesnt matter to them how well it does or not. I really Can't say whether DnL will do what it says. Just have to wait and see.
Ambitious in what term? From what I saw was all the game had was nice environmental graphics, but so does Dragon Empire. To me DnL is another cookie cutter MMORPG and will probably have a life after release for about two years before vanishing into the mmorpg niche proliferated by the Sims Online.
I think this game is too ambicious, but they´re doing all they´ve promised.
The dev team said DnL will have one huge world with 40.000 square kilometers.
The map is done.
They said we will be able to ride our own dragon, ala delta, sowboard sield and all that has been done.
They said DnL would had a very realistic weater system, and has been acomplished.
I´m not an idiot, there will be a lot of things that will become in future expansions or actualizatios, like undersea and underground cityes and worlds, but, by the way, they´re doing all they´ve promised.
I hope when the game gets open beta we will have the most thing they promised. We will have to wait the others.
P.D.: The most of games are too ambicious until their releases, and when U play it is the same thing that U have played lot of times. I´m sure that DnL will innovate MMORPGs scene.
How can a game be too ambitious. I want the best possible game.
If they can't handle it that's too bad but what you are sugegsting is: Lets not be creative and just make a typical MMORPG.
They might fail like Horizons did but at least they TRY.
they might pull it off.

Horizons was different. The whole idea of horizons was a 1 man idea. When he got booted out so did his vision and since it was his vision alone it got placed wrongly.A lot had to do with just trying to finish a long overdue game in a hurry and cash on whatever momentum it had left.
Hopefully D&L will not fail this way but lets wait and see.
Since now, they've said what they're going to do and they've show us what they did.
I find this strange to judge a game before having seeing it. Have they declare to abandon an idea? I don't think so.

I absolutely agree. And also Agree with what other posters have said about the fact that it so far seems as if they are succeeding in everything they've set out to do.
Speaking of Horizons and the vast difference between original concept and what was eventually vomited up you need to read about the real history of the game, it's a ugly story, take a look at link in the horizons forums to reads it.
I have high hopes for something interesting from D&L, most the stuff people have been/are getting worked up about bore me to tears
Well they got my interest, and so far they have implemented the things I was first drawn too (Huge world on one server, hangliding, huge range of mounts, snowboarding, exploration skills, such as map making & tracking, amazing view distances of upto 50km, and a dynamic weather system)
I wanted something new in the MMORPG genera, happly its looks like its here with Dark and Light.
I think now the dev team of DnL needs to make all the class with their skill trees and TS, some more monsters and mounts, and make able the housing.
I suposse that there will be minor things, like adding more houses and things like that, but they have five months until open beta, and all they need until the game release.
Again the difference between DnL and Horizons is that DnL is providing proof of it's achievements.
I was a big follower of Horizons back in the day. After years of development Horizons had little to show other than a few character model animations and some ancient screen shots for the huge amounts of money invested (rumoured at the time to be around 15 mill), the investors got fed up. They forced out Dave Allan (I think that was his name) brought in Bowman from Turbine and got him to make something with their money. The old Horizons was almost completely binned and the new Horizons was born. Not sure what happened after that as the new Horizons had very little I was interested in so I stopped following it.
DnL however has been in closed beta for a few months, has shown video footage of its achievements and looks very promising indeed. This time it seems its being done by people who know what their doing.
