I'm so bored with the choices we have now, I'd play it for no reason at all.

this game is a chance to live in the Stargate world. yes the worlds will be huge, the battles epic, and with 10 years of SG-1 and now 3 going on 4 seasons of SGA (which will be a expanison pack )  plus the models artwork scripts props etc from the shows this game will be nothing more the mind blowing.

if you look at all the tech that has come before this game was made and is now using you can expect big worlds great story lines and great gameplay.

    thats my take on it.

and thats what will get to play this game already been waiting from the time the first news broke that they where making the game.

That's true they are using the UT3 Engine and Bigworld tech

But Big world tech is not a engine it's more of a tool witch allows them to make worlds bigger and faster on any server. And yes UT3 is the engine they'll be using.....Very powerful!

I don't think it was MGM that messed that console game up, I think it was the developer Company. That is if your talking about http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stargate_SG-1:_The_Alliance

Thats what I thought when I first heard the game was comming out, but it seems that the developers are not going that route (probably to scared they can't pull it off)...

Stargate not being having twitch type gameplay is silly if you ask me, especially when you consider thats what the movie and series were all about (Guns and lazerspewpew)...

You spread to an area, and you multiply, and you multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet.-Mr.Smith

Well the devs did say it's not going to be a FPS, but they did say that using cover and tactics will play a big role in combat in the game. With that said I think you can expect a realtime combat system that is very unique. If you ask me the devs at SGW will get it right, The cover system they mentioned kinda reminded me of (gears of war) witch also uses the UE3 engine I believe.

With all that said I say don't critize the combat system till you get to actually try it out.

well would be interesting to see how they are really gonna do and how the game will be.  Not sure what will make me play it, i never know that about the ame till it at least has a beta or some such
  • BroccoliBroccoli Member Posts: 2

I think the real question is, What would make me NOT want to play SGWs? Crappy graphics, lag, no updates or expansions, and the one thing I hate more than anything: Being able to buy in-game items with real world money. What a joke.

They would have to do a REALLY bad job for me to not want to play the game.

As long as it's not yet another fantasy genre mmog, then it's worth a try.

As for me, I'd like for them to make the planets very large and fully explorable. Also I would like for them to have a lot of planets, not just a 30-40, but 1-2 hundred.

I'm mildly interested, if they come through on making Replicators playable I'll be very interested. Early in the dev cycle, new company. We'll have to wait and see what actually happens.
Haha, that's pretty much what I was expecting.

I think Stargate will be the most diverse and new (new as in breaking the usual concept of MMORPGs with orcs, elves etc, fooling around with axes and swords), which is excactly what we need. WoW, EQ, GW, DAoC, Warhammer, and many, many others. That's currently what the market has to offer.

Sure, we do also have EVE online (which IMO is the most interesting out atm even though I don't play it as of today), but its complexity and ground-breaking playstyle is a bit too foreign to most players.
  • Enforcer71Enforcer71 Member UncommonPosts: 780

For me I would say the biggest reason i would enjoy playing it is the simple fact its Sci-Fi and not Fantasy. Dont get me wrong Fantasy is fine but I am more of a Sci-Fi person myself and to be able to play something other then Elves, orcs, trolls and such is a nice change.

Also with the amount of planets and such, this game has a damn good chance to be a great MMO IMO. They have plenty of stuff to go off of and if done right will give players plenty of things to do for years to come.

Out of every 100 men, 10 should not be there,
80 are nothing but targets, 9 are the real fighters.
Ah, but one, ONE of them is a warrior,
and he will bring the others home.

Reasons I want to play (badly)

    Sci-Fi game

    Possibly unique gameplay style

Big fan of the series: Especially as of late, and I think that several things about it make it a good thing to build a MMO off of.  Most importantly the off-the cuff humor and the show and it's fans don't take themselves too seriously, as is with some IP's and their hardcore fans

Variety of possible landscapes - List goes on and on as far as their settings.

    Other thoughts:

I don't want 100-200 worlds, unless those worlds are "relatively" large and filled with content.  I don't need to have a HUGE massive world, but I want a decent size one.

My reasons are that 1.  I think it would be too many places to split the population across and would effect group forming. and 2.  it would be silly to make repetitive copies of planets just to up a number to advertise.

MMOer's I think often think about wanting larger level numbers and a larger world or larger number of planets, but don't think of the negative consequences of trying to do that or even accomplishing it.

Not to say I want a tiny number or tiny world, but I want these planets more than just a pretty landscape.

Im a huge fan of stargate

Im going to play stargate worlds because its based off stargate

what would make me want to play stargate worlds?

SOE having absolutely nothing to do with the game, in any aspect, ever.  SOE folk not even mentioning the game when talking to their kids about what game they might want to play.  i mean, like, smedley and them not even knowing that the game, movie, or shows exist.

insanity is doing the same thing over and over and over again and expecting a different result.

with vanguard, we see that as of oooooooo this year, SOE is still doing the same old thing and expecting us to keep suffering thru it.

could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

What would make me play star gate worlds..?

Thats an interesting question, and one i'd be happy to answer..

For one.. full customization of my character! During and after creation.

    - One thing that really gets to me about MMOs nowadays is the lack of customization. The company may proclaim they have a huge variety of customization.. but you're still selecting from a pot of pre-created heads and body styles. Thats what i DON'T want.

I love a game that gives you a generi-head and allows you to sculpt it like clay per-say. The color of eyes, hair color, styles, and different facial hair features. Each customizable in their own. I want my character to be mine. Not your art-director's. I appreciate their work, and applaud them in a good job... but its not what i want. I want full control over my character's looks.

    - After creation i want the ability to change out my characters looks and/or clothing whenever i want. Take SWG for instance. They had Image Designers and tailors. Now, i understand SGW won't have an image designer class nor a tailor class.. but the option to change my appearance if even for a price is gratifying. Just as in the real world, no one wants to be stuck wearing the same uniform! Even in the television series the team had a variety of clothing options.. even civilian for off-the-job times to change the scenery! I want that in a game. A sense of individuality.

Two, A large playing field with diversity

As has been stated before, i'd personaly like to see a wide diversity and number of worlds in the game.. each with a fairly large playing field. Again, take Star Wars galaxies.. maybe a few planets more.. but look at the scale of the planets.. though miniscule in proportion to the actual planet size... they were still large and had plenty of room to explore with alot of hidden stuff to find. I want SGW to be just like that! A wide variety of planets from Desert, to jungle, to aquatic, to mountains galore! Something to keep my eyes busy and excited while watching my surroundings. I don't want to go to one planet and see only Forest... only to gate into the next four and find the same thing. How dull!

    Item customization

Take weapons for instance... In World War II soldiers often 'bonded' with their weapons per-say. Soldiers would attatch scopes, grenade launchers, unique stocks, and different parts of a whole variety to their weapons and some even game them names!

Now, i wouldn't go as far to say we should be able to name our weapons.. no, no! But we shouldn't be able to modify our weapons and outfits at least. Give us the ability to modify that P90 for US and not the general audience.

    "cool" graphics

I can't tell you how many times i've heard people say 'its not always the graphics that matter... but the story and gameplay.

True. This is fact, i won't lie to you.. but i also don't want to look at a game that tells me its running on visual technology from Quake, back in the day. I want to feel the game when i play. I want to see the light flicker ambiently off of the walls when theres fire inside of a temple. I want to see that silk banner flail in the wind! I want to see the event horizon of the gate flush out in beauty and the lights around the stargate turn on as it activates. I want it to look pretty!

And while i accept that not everyone including myself has a super computer... i'd at least like it to look decent to modern standards.

    Regular Content

In alot of games... once you hit end-game you pretty much hit a dead end as the name implies. You've done it all and conquered the universe! Mastered by none and supreme ruler! Now what...? So you defeated the goa'uld supreme lord and grabbed all the best goodies in the game... but whats the point? You've got nothing to do now! You're just as good as a bar rat.. sitting around sipping beer, while telling the 'young'ins' the story of when you saved Earth. Who's going to believe you!

A good game needs regular updates and story-lines that will keep them going with the game. And this doesn't just include end-game content. WoW i think has suffered some because of this. Theres only so many times you can run through the 1-30 phase before you can do it blind folded. Add content for all levels and areas of the game. Not just the 'bad-arse' end-gamers! Yeah, they need love.. but so do the rest of us!

    Social activityes

If a game focuses only on combat and missions... i can tell you right now.. its doomed from the start! Why? Because a game is kept on the market by players. Those players drop in their cash every month to the company that owns the game. That money in turn pays for enhancements, developer paychecks, server costs, and all these other msc places money can go... yes including the CEO's greedy pocket. But if there are no players... there is no money.

The players of a game create a community and a community needs social interaction.. or its simply a group.. and groups don't tend to last. Anyone here can tell you what groups are like in MMOs. One quest and half of them leave! Same thing for a 'group' community.

Give players a place to mingle and share stories. Hook up and get quest groups together. Places to relax and fool around in-between quests.

Even the Stargate team in the series takes time off. They even go fishing in a fish-less lake! Give players an alternative to combat. After a while the hack-n-slash genre will get old and players will need a break.

If you don't supply it in game.. they'll find another game. At least thats how i look on it.

    Career diversity

As i understand it, these have already been put into place.. and i'm not happy! The ideas they put out for these careers in the game? Great, i have no problem with them... but i don't want to wander a world full of archeologists and commandos.. I want to see specialty jobs. I know, ive included it enough... but again. Star wars galaxies. over 30 profession choices in the game. THIRTY! thats a huge variety to choose from.. and gave players the ability to choose who they wanted to be.. not what the game wanted them to be with a little bit of choice.

And not to mention the ability to change out of and start anew with another choice anytime you want. I also understand that the game's archtypes or whatnot have different skill trees they can go into within those careers... if these are expansive.. then you have quelled this part of my rant!

    More so from up there....

    Professions

WoW has them, EQ has them, SWG is and was them, Horizons had them, and so many more MMORPG.

Give players side-activities to do. Crafting and msc abilities. This gives the community a sense of purpose i think in what they do in the game. Now you're not just some avatar in a world full of avatars fighting for the same cause.. you're a merchant or of value to the player world. Add some professions in addition to their career. Be it weaponsmiths to make guns or simply just to upgrade and enhance current weapons. Armorsmiths to upgrade and repair damaged player armor if not to create.. Ever race must have them in the series... how else do you think they got their weapons? I'll tell you here.. the Azgard didn't simply pull them from the great oblivion.. They were made my friends!

    ----------

Now mind the lot of you, the above is what i'd like to see in the MMO that would get me all pumped up and ready to play. Regardless of whether it can be or is already in the game is another story. I'm just showing the basic lines of what i'd like without looking at what is currently in the game. So if something of the above is already in the game.. great! But this here is just to say what i want, or would like to see.

Well... thats about all i can think of for now... not like anyone will read all of that anyways. =D

As i have seen the the show and have been an active member of watching it i would think that this would make a werid aproch at the galaxeies. It would be uniqe for a game like to to be turned into a movie and how the differnces would be and what u can do. This might be fun yet maybe boring and Laggy! I hope to play this when it comes out so i can compare!

I turned myself into a SG fan when i got the first 5 season of SG1. From what i read and been follow the development news, i smell heavy instanced gameplay with NPC poking you for non stop missions like.. protect this tribe.. recover the artifact to prevent "" to happen or best of all, guard an alien outpost to prevent "" to invade. "Imagine the gameplay of DDO and CoX"

In a few series, there is some diplomatic talks and some Asgard involvements so i hope Asgard would be a good NPC to provide us missions on and off.. Diplomatic missions is fun too.. hope that would outdo what Sigil Online Games did. I hope there wont be grinding raid like what WoW is providing for its end-game. Another possibilities that this game will be a FPS MMO due to the combat ability if we see from the TV Series point of view.

it  would be great if you could start a village on some plant or take plants form the Goa'uld ( and thats how you actully spell it) and use it's resources to portect earth or what would be great if you colud chose your race as a Goa'uld, human, repulcator, jafa, ori, or a tokra that would be unbeilveable                      (sorry for my spelling)
