How? He uses the one knee approach. This puts the rump right there...
The guy is spineless. Any normal person, in his position, would have made a stand long ago. I have a concious. I could never face my family again knowing I got paid for being a yes man. How could someone look their kids in the eye.

...And that's why he still has the job.
I just imagine him as like the guy from office space. I wonder how many times they had to make him move his desk. They probably keep him Garva and Virrago in some closet down in the basement. I bet Helios stole his stapler.
What about attorneys defending their clients? Are they controversial as well? I mean, most of their clients aren't innocent - some obviously so, do you think they really don't know who is guilty and who's not?
What about marketing? Almost all products sold are inferior in one way or another. Yet marketing never ever mentions that.
What about insurance companies - they exist for one purpose - hoping you beat the odds they set. For life insurance they wish you die before the statistical average. For car insurance, they hope you trash the car in one of the few ways that isn't covered by them. As a matter of fact, they aren't offering you safety. They are betting their existance on something happening to you that you aren't insured againt - this way they collect your money, and give nothing in return.
And yes, I'm sure that White House PR has lots of trouble sleeping at night.

I don't think anyone's saying he's controversial, just that he's not very highly looked upon given the situation. And attorneys, marketing (or sales) people, or the insurance industry aren't held in particularly high regard either, so what's your point?
It's late, I'm tired and I don't feel like dissecting this to any level of detail (so I SHOULD just STFU, really) but the truth is each of these examples are qualitatively different and don't really compare directly anyway. A better comparision would be a politician paid to represent a given constituency, who plainly fails to act on their behalf while vociferously proclaiming otherwise. I realize this describes quite a few politicans, BTW.

It isn't so much that Thunderheart tows the company line. It is the fact that he is absolutely horrible at the job he is supposed to be doing that makes people wonder why he is still employed. His entire job consists of explaining the whys and hows of what the idiots developing the game are doing. He spends most of his time promising to ask the developers the answers to questions the folks on the OBoards ask, and then seems to forget about it until someone else asks the same question and then claims he already answered it. He also has a bad habit ignoring problems the players bring up if he doesn't agree that such things are a problem.
When your head PR flack pisses off more often than he makes them content about things, he has doen exactly the opposite of what his job entails. But considering Thunderheart's boss (Brenlo) thinks insulting customers and generally behaving like a douche bag
is acceptable behavior by 'Customer Relations' personnel, Thunderheart can rest easy that his job is safe, no matter how many customers he chases away.
For the record in beta Kurt was a nice guy and really did help out... then once hired from SOE right from beta he did change but at least he had a sack still.
Things started getting ugly at the first major pub really, come pub 8 or so he started going south I think.
NOW then, come NGE ... he was done. He lost all respect from most elders, beta players, he pretty much ended up as a joke to us by all means and during the summits he was useless.
So yeah, at one time I respected him. After the NGE, he pretty much became a staple of it.
It fits his thinking and concepts now, he is the one representing it... so with that said, he is exactly what the NGE is.
That should cover that.
Id give anything to debate with him now, of course SOE has his nuts so it won't work.

You mean the guy that defends someone knowing full well the guy is guilty but still defends him so he can at least get a fair trial? You mean that guy? The guy that tries make sure everyone gets their day in court? Got a better idea? Let me guess. Everytime some is charged with a crime we tie a huge cement block to their feet and toss em in a deep lake. If they float they are guilty and if they sink and drowned they are innocent. That was the kind wierd twisted justice we had about 300 years ago. How about if we even suspect someone might be guilty of something we just string em up right then and there without a trial. That suit you better?
What about marketing? Almost all products sold are inferior in one way or another. Yet marketing never ever mentions that.
Yah TH to a TEE. And yes he should be ashamed of himself everytime he says how wonderful that game is.

There are good insurance companies and bad insurance companies. When my dad died his insurance company paid up quick and even paid for the casket eventhough it was part of the contract. They even gave me information about grief consuling and offered to pay for that too. Again not in the contract. Every single one of them were nice as hell and deserved kudos as far as I am concerned.
Then there is the insurance company I had to fight for 3 years to get my knees fixed and suffered the entire time. They dont deserve their license.
And yes, I'm sure that White House PR has lots of trouble sleeping at night.
This guy has to be worst community relations person I've seen in any game. What does this guy do all day?
Community relations is one of the most thankless jobs around if you think about it. Not just with SWG but any MMO on the face of the Earth. If something breaks it's the CR guy that the playerbase screams at. Something gets nerfed? CR Guy is yelled at by the playerbase. Hell look at when Tiggs was CR with the CU or NGE. For a few hours after the NGE news broke the fourms got bombed with "Fire Tiggs!" Posts... I still laugh a little later on when the same players screaming for Tiggs to be fired turned around and demanded Tiggs come back.
Still think about what TH's day must be like... He comes in and checks his fourm inbox, and that's most likely full of "Bring back Pre-CU!" "you suck!" and the lovely "I hope you get fired" messages. He has to check up on what is going on with the game both with the Dev's and on the fourms. With the dev's I get the feeling it's the dev's telling him "Tell them when it's done!" and playing like their workers at Area 51. With the Players well, nerf this, buff this, we want this, give us this, bring back this, fire (name here), this game sucks, Well you get the point...
Really what it boils down too is the CR is really the fall guy for the game. He or she is just there for the playerbase to vent at.
Obee makes a great point, and I wasn't looking at it that way. It's true, TH doesn't seem particularly informed about the product anymore, and has a very noticeable habit of promising to follow up on a topic and then sweeping it under the rug. But like mikeMB said, one gets the feeling that the live team treats the product like area 51, and that CR folks don't get much relevant information anyhow.
