How many years does a game have to be "under development" before the fanbois realize the game is never going to come out?  How can these fanbois also not understand that they degrade and insult games and gamers who play games which are popular and have actually been released?

Is there some kind of pleasure from backing a game that is all hype?  I can only assume that it is only because it is impossible to argue with someone who doesn't have any factual information to back up their opinions.

Personally I can't wait for the day when Darkfall is moved from the "Games in Development" into the garbage.  Hopefully by then the fanbois will move there as well.  The kind of community they try and form isn't positive, and the kinds of insults and arguments they bring to forums is trite and needs to be blacklisted and banned.

Discuss.

Also, does anyone remember a game that made it onto the stratics community only later discovered as a total hoax?  The game was registered to some kids hotmail address.  The game had features like real death, birth to players, and "growing up".  Also I think you could make certain mobs disappear by killing enough of them.

Was pretty interesting to watch the forums blow up when the game suddenly disappeared from sight.  Left many "hardcore" kiddies disappointed and looking for another holy grail of PvP.

I personally hate hype. Hype a game all you want, if a company doesn't have the funding, the game isn't coming out. Period.

For a game to be in development for this long means one of two things:

    -They ran out of cash.

    or

-The game looked nice on paper but was entirely different when it was being developed, so they're going to make it FTP ( lol D&L).

I just wish people would let games like Darkfall die instead of trying to open thread after thread of useless hype and then defend.  The worst part is that the defense usually entails bashing games that are currently out and making money.

Arent they having a clan beta right now or something? I just hastily looked through the main page.

I remember checking out this mmorpg like 2 years ago and thinking "cool" but didnt have the strength to keep watching it and thought I would just wait until I hear that its out.

So anyway... will it be released and "finished" (apparently no mmorpg is ever finished... ) .. I hope so atleast, since it seems like it would be really fun to play what they promise.

Same thing happened with VG. It was one of the most over-hyped games to date, just look at the forums(52k posts). And what happened when it was released?

I actually remember people stating it will be "THE" MMO to play, and saying how it is going to be a gift from god.

    Some advice to you hypers:

-Wait for a game to have their NDA removed to start posting about how good(or bad) it is. Because the truth is, until you've tried something, you have no clue what to expect.

Suuuuure they're having a clan beta.  My L2 clan signed up (and was accepted) when they announced clan registration in October of 2005.  And of course, that beta was "just around the corner" then too.

Its not coming out, if it ever does it will have 10-year old graphics and awful gameplay.

I doubt the game will come out, but it would be awesome if it did, agree? that is if it came out within the year or not too far off in the next year.

A lot of the features they promise would be nearly impossible to fairly implement.  Seems like a cesspool for griefing and leet kiddies.  If any game could actually fairly implement open PvP I would play it, but if I want that kind of action I'll just play an FPS that puts everyone equally and skill is the only factor.

I will never play a game that people hype who aren't literate.

not play a game that people who are illiterate hype? ever? oohh okey... well have fun with your lvl 70 priest doktar... >.>

The game referenced in the OP was Dawn. Might have been the most hilarious shit I've ever witnessed. Fetuspults, FFS.

There was also another scam vaporware game out around that time from Red Dragon Software.

I started following Darkfall way back when they first announced it. How long has it been, now? 5 odd years? Even if it weren't vaporware, it would make Shadowbane look like a technical utopia. FPS work great when you cap the sides at 16, 32, or 64. But a few hundred, or even thousand people, all flailing about, with spell effects, and all that? Even the lag would have lag.

I think AoC will suffer much the same problems with it's psuedo-FPS combat, for what it's worth. It'd be fine for 1v1, or small group stuff, but once you get into siege territory, KYAG.

I am not sure if you are being sarcastic, trying to point out a typo in my name (which is a play on Troll names and Doctor), or actually wishing for me to have fun.

To answer your poorly executed question, I will not play a game that has people who can't type out words or even complex ideas without using "lol" or "dats ghey".  Sorry, but the community that brings with it in unappealing.

QFT!  Dawn!!!! Haha.  I remember posts like "Who would you pick for your parents!!!" or "Perma death, cool!!".  Oh man, good times.  Also, I agree with your idea about AoC.  I first shuttered when I read that FC was behind it.  Now that I hear all of the "features" I am even less impressed.

I think what he meant to say was that you would never play a game that is hyped by illiterate people, yet you play the game with the most illiterate fucking community in the mmorpg world.

    this is hilarious

doktor, I think that if Darkfall does ever come out that the players will be more literate than those that play WOW

also, something good should take a while to come out

look at Turbine, they got the license to the granddaddy of MMO's, D&D, and totally messed it up with DDO because they rushed it out

i agree there is some hype, but it could be cool

Hate to say it but he does have a point. I don't see one as being any better than the other:

    PvP MMO: Ifnpnwedjoo

    PvE MMO: hey dhatwuzmyphatlewtz wtfuranoob

As for Darkfall... Who cares? It gets released if it gets released. Till then, ignore it.

he got it....  and I type lol for the reason of not having to type "hahahaha" the whole time... also it helps making a point of something that is funny or meant to be funny etc. If lol is too much too handle for you though I cant really blame you... since people using IMO pisses me off... in my opinion.

That's a lie, try Guild Wars. Or Silkroad Online. Or Conquer Online. Or Final Fantasy XI. Or MapleStory. Or Planetside. And the list goes on and on...

(To be honest, that list shouldn't include Planetside, because Planetside is awesome.)

(The list goes on and on, counting EVERY ASIAN MMO out there.)

Have you ever browsed the WoW message boards??? Ever???

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!

All fanboys are different, but it's just somthing you can't fix. They all have their moods, opinions, etc. If one fanboy want's to be ignorant, I just ignore them.

It bothers you so much you made a topic about it? And then on top of that you claim they have the problem?

I don't see why you people complain.  I prefer a company keep any product in development until it is ready.  If the product is never ready I would prefer that they do not release it.  Why do people accept products that are not ready?

That is why I prefer the "when it is done" attitude towards game development.  Back in the 80s and 90s most companies released their software "when it was done".  For some reason all these kiddies these days are complaining about years in development or pushed back release dates.  STFU!
