Probally asked more than anything on these boards, I know,
But....
Can somebody tell me the pro's and con's of this game?
I'm looking for a new game to get into, and DAoC is one im considering.
Just ismple things like...
How is the PvP? Is it possible to do anything solo?
Are there any new players ever? Can a new player compete?
Will I spend a year waiting before I can PvP? What is the skill/level'ing system like?

how about a nice tall glass of STFU
It's becouse there was a new patch launched last night and it was huge...and you probably need alot more that 60MB if it's the first time u patch up
normally logging in takes 30 secs on a "normal" computer.
1. The PvP is GREAT, there are Battlegrounds for lowlevel characters so you don't have to worry about beeing beat up to pulp by highlevel players.
2. On the classic us-server where I play there are plenty of new players.
3. The level system is pretty simple. You start at lvl 1 and then you can ither kill monsters or go of and fight other players to gain exp. The best way to exp is a combination of exping/question/pvping since you will want to get items from quests ect.
You get both coin and exp from killing players.
The main PvP area is called The Fronteir, you CAN enter it when your lvl 1...but this is the area where the big boys fight so don't expect to last long As I said there are several battlegrounds where you can pvp while you level up to lvl 50.
At lvl 15 you can start gain realmpoints in the BGs, the points can be used to gain special abilities.
At lvl 50 you start earning champion points, they can also be used to buy special abilities. There are 10 championlevels, and each level gets you a new ability.
I hope you give this gamea try, becouse your gonna love it!

Number are not declining anymore, they are growing. And WoW was the reason so many left DAoC,and now people are leaving wow to come to DAoC. If you want ml10 ect, just go buy them for bountypoints(See patch 1.88 releasenotes).
1) Dated graphics.
2) PvE is god awful boring, and boy do I mean boring. If you're not one of the classes that level up easy, then its almost unbearable. For me it was unbearable.
3) Very small population. This hurts because you need other people on in order to RvR.
4) The reason for the small population is that casters are now killing machines. Casters are about the only class you will find out in RvR. This is great if you enjoy casters, but a lot of people don't.
5) RvR is dead, its now a PvP game where you just flame your realm mates, and kill the opposing realm. No siege at all anymore. There is zero incentive to fight as a realm.
6) BGs are dead, except for Thidranki(level 21-25?) on ToA servers, and Molvik (36-40?) on classics.
This was the best game I'd ever played until they changed the core game. Its no longer the DAoC that had over 40k users online at once. It now has an avg. of 6700 online. There is a reason for that guys.
2. PvE is just as entertaining as any other mmorpg. They even added story driven aspects to the game now that actually impact the PvE world.
3. The population is small but the servers are clustered. This means the RvR zones, and now almost all of the PvE zones are shared. So population is not an issue.
4. Population has nothing to do with casters. There are multiples causes that I will not get into.
5. Siege has problems because the rewards simply are not there. Why spend hours trying to take a keep and get a few thousands realms points versus just killing other realms players and earning ten of thousands? This is being worked on from multiple angles including possible resdeisgn of the front this summer.
6. BG's have almost always been dead. There are usually a few key battle grounds, 2-3 of them, that people use. Thid starts at level 20. Level 35-39 is also a populated one. The 44-49 one can be a good one on some servers as well.
There are reasons why DAOC population has declined, but I would like to point something out. You have a game and group A thinks Y needs to be changed. If you change it then some of Group B will leave. If you do not, then some of Group A will leave. That is to say, whatever any player thinks of this game and "blames" as the cause of anything is not really the cause. Whatever Mythic does will upset someone. Given the lack of advertisement, the age of the game, and multiple changes, you are going to end up with a declining population of the game. MMO compaines are basically in a position of being dammed if you do and dammed if you don't. Their action or inaction pisses people off. After years of this (and the fact that many players are not college age virgins and tons of free time) then you are going to end up with a smaller population unless you can attract a significant amount of players to make up for what you loose. No game has even been able to do that. DAOC might have been able to if they had advertised in non game related media at key times and could have kept their game on the shelves. But Vivendi stoped pushing for DAOC when WoW was in beta. This resulted in almost no self-pressence.

Yes Kar, some of all of that happens from time to time... no doubt happens on the other games out there too... Thats not Mythics fault perse - thats just bad people. The do ban . and I'm not going to argue about who, how often or the like.
Yes there are some out there in RvR that are 'greygankers' and just out for the rps - forgetting that they were new once upon a time too...
However - that is NOT the majority of the population on ANY of the servers.
For the most part the boards here are a step above the 'cry some more noob' type statements that you get on VN.
I just hate it when someone has a bad experience and the thing they do about it is run to the boards and make a lot of trash talk about the game.
I hope more people just try the game for themselves --- opinions are not facts.
I don't think a 5,5 year old game can whithhold a large playerbase, so comparing DAoC population of Today with DAoC at release isn't really fair.
There are plenty of other games that has lost much more of it's subscribersm so I think DAoC is doing pretty good.
I am currenty playing DAoC, and I'm happy with it as it is. I really hope you don't play DAoC anymore since you don't like it anymore. I don't know when you quit but it doesn't seem healthy to still go around and be angry about it. I hope you find something you like somewhere else.
Oh yes...and this statement by you (Working as intended, tabled need more specifics, and thanks for playing Dark Age of Camelot) doesn't make a whole lot of sense...so I can't tell if you are being angry or not.
OK, you've done all that you can do in the game...and its time for you to move on. I myself am playing LotRO right now because I wanted something new...but if someone has never played DAOC...they can still have a very fun time.... if they just give the game a chance.... and then we'll all play WAR and live happily ever after....
