So, I finally had someone in my guild, a bard, help my tamer to get a Bake Kitsune. Two, actually, one of them being in stables for bonding, the other travelling with me. I took it over to Despise to pound on some Lizardmen, and noticed that there was another woman running around, as well. Well, of course, my Kitsune was owning everything in sight like a good tame should, when all of a sudden it turned green and turned on me, by the time I realized what was going on I was dead. I've spent forever trying to get one of these kitsunes, so I run out of the cave, and it's a mile run to find a wandering healer, I get halfway back, get killed, have to run back, again. Needless to say, by this point, I'm pretty grave feeling about the life of my kitsune still being there in the hordes and mobs of lizardmen. I finally make it back to the cave, no reagents on me, just my armor and things I've insured, popping out my charger of the fallen to speed my advance. ONly poblem is, there's no way I"m going to be able to make it through the lizardmen without reagents to cast spells. However, suddenly, as I approach the edge of the dungeon, there's the woman I saw earlier, and she throws down a portal in front of me and says 'Come'. I figured "WTF?" And ran in. . .
. . . and spawned right next to my Kitsune. The woman had apparantly been looking for me, but since she figured I was running off to get revived, she had marked the spot where my kitsune was and guarded it. I grabbed it, ran back into the portal out of the dungeon, she followed, asked me if I got everything from my body (which luckily she reminded me, because I almost forgot in the joy of my kitsune still being there). And she gave me a warp back to town.
My final point is that THIS is why UO rocks. And not just UO, but ANY MMO with a good/decent community. People complain about the 12.99 a month fee, and that the game should be free, but I've played plenty of free games, and I've never gotten the sort of kinmenship I've recieved on UO, or some pay to play games in general. UO, though, is amazing for its community. This isn't the first time I've had strangers with no obligation to help me. It's because UO is based upon adventuring, not just some simple grind. And this woman took it upon herself to adventure in saving me.
So to all of you who say the UO community is dead, drop by Pacific sometime.
Best,
Tryken.

I agree the community found in UO is second to none, and on the Pacific shard it is fantastic to say the least. I have played on pac since it was started and am still playing there and have never even created a character on a different shard (other than Siege). I believe that anyone that tries UO will find the same thing, many of the players you don't even know will go out of thier way to help you anyway they can. All the changes that have come down the pipe have done nothing but cement a solid helpful fun playerbase in one of the best MMO's ever created, the endless content and additions of new concepts and ideas have set the stage for all other MMO's to follow.
ps. Well done to the player that helped keep your pet alive while you were in search of a healer!
I' ve had countless moments like these.. some of them were like the one you mentioned and others were tragic in a funny way (like the first time me and a friend got lost in the wilderness , never laughed so much in years). It was the best time I've ever had online and with my RL friends we still speak fondly of the memories we have of this game.. I'll never forget UO, as you perfectly put it, it is an adventure, not just a game.. no other MMO has yet to compare to the UO experience, and maybe never will.
Have played:
UO, WOW, COH/V, EQ2
Currently playing:
Age of Conan (EU)
Total time played: 9125 Days, 21 Hours, 29 Minutes, 27 Seconds
Time played this level: 39 Days, 1 Hour, 24 Minutes, 5 Seconds
Pre T2A was worlds better than this carebear shit nowadays.
All of the wierd skills, special powers, and uber magical items in the world would be fine if they just wouldnt have implemented facets. That totally ruined OSI's game. Bah, Free Servers for ever!
krun what is fel for?? people that like pvp. people try to say pvp is dead in UO and its not go take a look for yourself.
The bottom line is people SHOULDNT HAVE A CHOICE in the matter. Thats why its "carebear". Its an idiotic feature, detracting from the spirit of the game. Its for people who dont want to interact with hostile players, they just want to tame some goats.
Its not realistic, but I didnt want to make that point as UO is a heavily magical game. There was a point in time when if you walked outside of a town, you kept one eye looking behind you at all times. Now, you can just be a trammlet (Which translates to "Homosexual" in English), run your mouth all you feel like, and 7x anything while being safe a sound.
you do realize they did that to keep the majority and it pissed off the very small but vocal pvp people cause they liked the chaos of pvp and thats it. dont get me wrong i like pvp to a point not ganking and camping but real pvp. no game past or present or future will allow that type of play again cause of the chaos it caused. unless you whiny pvpers get together make a dang game that supports your type and style of pvp you guys like. which will never happen cause you guys like to complain to much as to fix the problem yourselves.
