alright im willing to post on this...

you are more right than you know WOW and EVE are not alike atall.

i have some suggestions for you. as you said WOW was your very first MMO. i will warn you your jumping into a very unforgiving universe here in EVE. If MMOs were sports WOW is football  while EVE is Muay Thai. one is MUCH more forgiving than the other, expect to get torn up quite a bit.

    10 suggestions

    1. Decide what you want to do. in EVE noone tells you what your sposed to do or how to play you haveto decide for yourself.

    2. don't get upset when you get blown up. yes you lose everything but so does everyone else who goes boom we all deal with it.

    3. don't start acting like a stupid middleschool punk in local it will only hurt you.

    4. sit through the entire tutorial (yes it sucks but you really need to do it atleast once)

    5. find a corp that meets your needs quickly.

    6. dont beg. this is for any MMO

    7. dont expect to be in capital ships in 6 months... Battleships mabe capships no (im starting tward capships now and ill be in one at about 1.5 years of gameplay... so 4 months from now).

    8. if you have any expectations of what its like get rid of them now EVE is its own beast

    9. never feel your useless just because your new or have low SP compared to someone. everyone can be usefull aslong as you know how to listen to instructions

    10. MOST importantly DO NOT play the game for 2-3 days and think youve learned it.

WoW is for people who cant use thier brain correctly, and from the way you type, and the post you made... well, i will just leave it at that. Eve is pretty complicated.

I'd agree with you Eve is a cult, although I disagree that you need to think about anything.......its mind numbing boring stuff like mining or missioning, nothing is super tough about this game......

CCP would love to indoctrine you to be one of the pods they wanna shoot, they love cannon fodder which they consider anyone who isn't in their pet corps, BOD.....

The game is dead not, this game is good we make it and Romania Tv give it 5 goat heads, this is good rating for game.

    11. Ignore the naysayer crowd. most of them tried the game (90% for only a week at max) and ended up not enjoying it (wich is fine EVE isnt for everyone) or something happened and the got killed, scammed, or whatever and for some reason took it personaly (wich should neve rhappen... its a game) and still havent gotten over it... Try the game for yourself and make up your own mind.

mind numbing boring stuff like mining or missioning...  vs the mind numbing boring stuff in wow like mining/herbalism and questing (kill 50 ogres,  kill 180 beasts)...

and you have kaplan/pardo stacking the deck so that you have to raid to get the GOOD stuff.  and i quote kaplan, "Learn to raid!!! noobs!@!@" except he didn't type it, he angrily barked it?   hmm.   and kaplan's team doing pvp as an afterthought, grudgingly, and making sure that even if you spend 70+ hours/week pvping, you could NEVER get the gear that a raider gets?

that's slowly changing, but you still have to pvp way far more to get the good stuff than the (by comparison) miniscule time spent raiding.

so i guess it depends on what sort of dev cheating/bias you despise the least, and if you would rather your *grind* be in space or a fantasy dungeon.

although, the idea of NOT being tied to an instance/raid/whatever for multiple hours, with one misstep causing a wipe... that is a nice idea.   and pvp, where you can lose everything, tends to make it more exciting than pvp where all you REALLY lose is "precious time getting back to your body".

could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

Please please people. Eve is not for everyone. But the guy that said mining and missions, you don't have to think... Well actually you do. Yes you can just go anywhere and kill or mine. But you'll probably die in a few seconds. You must know what rats you are fighting to know what type of stuff you want to throw on your ship. Also you must know what asteroids fields are worth it and what are not. You must understand at first you have to get the crap minerals because they are safe, and later on when you get into some mining ops or more skill points you can hit the hard stuff.

Also the biggest thing it seems to me about EVE, is that if you don't plan out your career (And somewhat important[exactly what skills you want])) then you'll waste a lot of time and do stuff that doesn't benefit you at all.

If you do plan on trying it out, like someone else said do the tutorial, it helps a lot. And then join the help channel and the community is more then willing to help you out. And know that until you get higher up into skill points you'll be either mining or running missions for isk(money).

I'd say just go to eve-online.com and find there noob guide/

Oh and if you didn't know there is no levels, skill points are learned which takes time so you can "level" while your offline.

Theres so much stuff in the game too, so if you like deep games then play this. Hate to say it but if you want to play "shallow" games then play WoW or something else.

    Good luck

Waiting for: AoC of course and warhammer like everyone else... But people really should stop bashing other games and just have their fun.

    Darkfall for now.

Quit bashing games YOU don't like! Including WoW, you know you liked it before you got burned out.

If you join Eve University, we will help start your Eve Online career. We're an alturistic corp and provide training. Some resources, such as skill books are free.

Typically, you start off learning how to PvP by tackling larger ships so your team mates can 'take them out'.

There are lots of other class lessions, such as how and where to mine, do missions, and hunt for NPC pirates (ratting).

    Our prospectus is here:

    Here is our commercial:

    This point needs clarification:

You can be in a battleship in 6 months, definitely. Since Revelation,  new chars start with more Skillpints and learning skills are easier to get into. My own char (a bit under 4 months) has most of the prerequisites and could get the lower BS ranks in a few more days or weeks. That is after investing at least a month in non-combat related skills.

If capship in 6 months is possible I don't know. Maybe if you really specialize.

    BUT

don't expect to be effective in PVP that way. Flying a large ship inexperienced, underskilled and underarmed(due to lack of fitting skills) is a recipe to lose 100 millions of ISK  or more real quick. A veteran who has his skills maxed out and knows what he is doing might shoot you down with a ship of a smaller class.

That's why I make do with smaller ships for now. When I get into my first battlecruiser I want to have the various "support skills" at least at level 4 out of 5.

WoW is for people who cant use thier brain correctly, and from the way you type, and the post you made... well, i will just leave it at that. Eve is pretty complicated. I have lots of good things to say about Eve the game and its developers. Unfortunately I have very little good to say about most of its players. Examples such as this one makes at least 50% of eve players. This is the biggest hurdle for new players to Eve ... this is what you will need to overcome to stick with the game. Most of them are failures and spend their time griefing and harassing other players to make up for their shortcomings. You will have lots of e-peen wagging by people who are seriously under-endowed and under-achievers in real life and try to make up for it in Eve.

Thankfully the other 50% are adults and act like adults, and try to work together, and make the game fun for everyone. Make sure you fall in with the right crowd, to get properly inducted into eve, and make a decent start of it.

Just getting ready to make a try for EVE atm, and the thought of not having anyone holding my hand all the way through is actually pretty neat and one of the reasons I wanna give this game a try. By my reasoning, if anyone is clever enough to get the better of me then I get back in the ship, learn my lesson and start over :)

I say this because I`m pretty cocky, and I actually expect to be scammed pretty often. Big fan of Darwin, Machiavelli and Sun Tzu, so using their tactics is basically my only expectations :)

IMO, if you feel sore about something that happened ingame you take it to seriously and have forgotten the basic. It is, and always will be, a game. Games have rules. Follow the rules or guidelines or whatever and blame noone but yourself if things get frakked up.

hehe.. well eve is hardcore to learn its somthing totally different than wow but if you use the time to learn you will find out that eve gives you the same things that wow does just in its own insane versions.

World of warcraft has PvP arena - eve has pvp turney on tv ( yep thats right)

World of warcraft has instances - eve has complexes with NO max players if you can go there your worste enemy can go there and meet you.

World of warcraft has factions ( kill all the red's) - eve have Kill all the reds BUT you deside who the red's are not the game company CCP

World of warcraft has pvp raids in battle grounds - eve has Pvp raids every where on the world map

World of warcraft has pvp raids with up to 20 players - eve has pvp raids with NO limit

World of warcraft has pve Raids with up to 40 players - eve has pve raids with  NO limit

World of warcraft lets you buildt things like Swords- eve lets you build your own station that your enemy can attack where ever you want plus almost every weapon you can find ingame.

World of warcraft has lvl system witch make you inpossibel to beat up if im 10 lvl under you - eve has no lvl system your brain will make you a brilliant fighter

world of warcrraft has hours of hunting monsters - so do eve if you want to BUT you dont HAVE to

World of warcraft has a great community - so do eve BUT in general its people that are older that 16 that play it witch makes the chat boxes free from childish spam except ofc at the starting stations.

World of warcraft has alot of cool things to look at - so do eve but i agree there is alot more of it in wow. but its not whats on your screen that makes you own people is it?

world of warcraft has action house - so do eve actually i think its 99% of the game econemy thats controlled by players.

World of warcraft has no gambling with Gold - eve has different types of lottery and some cool radiio stations that somthimes  makes contests.

World of warcraft is easy to learn - eve is NOT but i think thats why we are free from childish comments in chat box.

World of warcraft has no real death penaly - you DONT wanna die in eve belive me.. you will watch for your life

world of warcraft has some niice helping sites on the internet- so does eve

I haven't played WoW (elves vs orcs is not for me) and posted a similar thread last week, "Is EVE for me?". There's a digression part way through about how the devs are cheating, but apart from that, I found it informative.

Of course even the negative responses are helpful because they're the type of people you'll be playing with.
  • iCehiCeh Member UncommonPosts: 884
As said, there's always a free 14-day trial, so you've got nothing to lose in trying it (you don't need a credit card).

I couldn't predict whether or not you'd like EVE as a WoW player, it's a totally different type of game, and I'll always say that EVE is a kinda of 'you love it or hate it' type game. I play both EVE and WoW, and if it came down to a choice of one of the two, i'd choose EVE because no-one will ever max out there skills, whereas in WoW sooner or later you're gonna get to the dead-end (until the next expansion).

Some of those negative responses are made by people who quit playing, because of those negative issues.

I gave Eve a couple of trials, a few months apart. The game graphics are fantastic, some good play, lots of things to train for. But I also became aware of other things that have been going on in and out of the game and decided  not to play it for those things alone. Good game, bad company. See what others have said about the game, what has caused a "scandal".

There are naysayers and the fanclub type here, and I know that the truth lies somewhere in between the two groups opinions. That still kept me away.

I might trial it again in a few months. trials are free!
