I'm not 100% certain but I'm fairly certain you will have to purchase either a DVD edition OR a PC CD edition of the game [same price of course] I highly doubt they would make DVD only versions... that's just not smart. I've never actually seen a company do a 'dvd' only edition for pc games.
Why do I write, create, fantasize, dream and daydream about other worlds? Because I hate what humanity does with this one.
i been looking at all the preorders....i only see dvd versions for sale..anyone have a link for a cd version?
It was already stated by the devs on the official site that you can play LotRo with the beta client. But you will need the dvd if you want to install the hi-res textures (though maybe they will be downloadable at some time as well)
No offense but if you do not have a DVD player how old is your machine? Is it even going to have the specs to run the game? Heck a EDVD Burner is only about $100. If you can not run DVDs that is like people that still use checks at Walmart instead of a bank card time to join the rest of us in this century
The ad on the back on MMO Gamer magazince does state PC CD Rom and PC DVD, so both are available. However, as others have stated, if you're already playing the beta, all you need from the retail box is the retail key...

BOYCOTTING EA / ORIGIN going forward.
hooah!
Im pretty sure that the ways it woks is this :
you can use the beta client to play 10 days before release, if you have an early access key (you get this with the preorder).
after the first 10 days (april 24th - official release) - you must buy and install the full game.
Ive seen a LOTR RPG Disc in a local Shop for 99p
I confused what it is a demo or a client download disc?
I know that the combined CoH/CoV is DVD only.
I don't have a Dvd player on this computer either, because I have an old laptop that has one.
I will either buy a cheap dvd drive or just keep using the beta client.
I am pretty sure that you won't have to install a new version if you have the beta client.
You will have to enter in the retail key on turbines account webpage, though.
When scary things get scared, that's bad...
