With great sorrow i ve learned that there is not going to be any pvp in Lotro ,and with even greater sorrow i see one more good opportunity to give the ppl a great mmo ,cause DDO is already wasted ,and guess what" there was no pvp there either...Turbine said its not right to put Elves gang hobbits and such stuf...welll that s horsheet cause they could easilly provide 2 factions 1 with the curent playble races elvs hobbits humans dworfs,,and ofc the bad guys like orcs goblins trolls and many others they could imagine...its just they should work much more to do that and they prefered the easy money...Welll i say people DONT buy Lotro and give the companies a good lesson to prefer quality next time they deside to make mmos and take our precious money...
Cause if i wanted pve (LOL) id stay in my oblivion which is for sure better...Awesome combats e.t.c....And dont missunderstood this...Pve is good but alone its boring..and the (LOL)pvp they included in this game is the most idiotic way...Who will go an dmake a 50 lvl orc that can t play ,lvl wiht it upgrade his stats and armor by adventuring and stuff..only to go and attack with out any sense a normal player char...I m very sad cause they had a great opportunity cause Tolkin smiddle earth is a ground they could invest and now only they will get from me is: 1 crap to rull them all and in the darkness bind ...Thnks Turbine but no thnks!!!!

I think that LOTR:O would be somewhat deeper and interesting if it had trolls, orcs etc. in it and some better pvp-system than that forcely added monster-play thingy

i must agree with that their system suckz. if i could lvl up an orc that would be different. i played in beta and i loved the pve then got bored when it comes to pvmp and i got enough pve in the beta, no need to buy.. thx codemasters to let me join the fun for free but that game needs a different system to keep me there for long
hooah!
BOYCOTTING EA / ORIGIN going forward.
who me ?
nah u cant lvlup monsters, u start a lvl50.. and u cant chose a weapon that u like.. u cant go out of ettenmoors.. this is not what a mmo player wants
hooah!
I have played 2 open ended pvp games . Lineage 2 and Shadowbane, and honestly can say, I will not miss the gankfest pvp system
who me ?
if u dont like the PvP than pack up and leave
i personally love the whole monster play idea! and it fits in well w/ the LotR setting

the game with the LOTR lore didnt meant to have pvp... what did i made to deserve that ?
hooah!
I believe that decent PVP is what makes a good MMO at the end of the day. Whats the point of spending hours upon hours getting that sword of complete rapage if you cant use it on another real life player.
I am generalising here, but I think I can safetly say that most mmo players like the dynamics of player vs player combat over the more static PVE combat.
Expanding on this point is the fact that any good mmo relies heavily on its community and/or player base. I just dont think you can sustain a large player base (which is more or less essential for large raids and good end game PVE content) without a decent PVP system.
So at the end of the day a large player base = more bling $$$ = more bug fixes and content = HAPPY CUSTOMERS and dear I say it is something that WoW has done extremely well
I don't understand why people keep saying there is no PvP, when clearly there is. Players fighting other players... isn't that PvP? Are you guys mad at the limited play-field for PvP and just overstating the issue, or do you really not understand how it works?
You make a monster, you give him a name, you do quests with him, he gets stronger, tougher and meaner as you play him. Over time you raise your armor and attack ratings and even upgrade your physical appearance. I understand that the PvP is implemented differently than in other MMOs, but you are still fighting against other players... you can even take your main character in to combat against other real players who are playing their monster. You just can't kill an elf with your hobbit or take your orc to downtown Bree....
Different PvP doesn't really equal no PvP.

Exactly.
I think most of those who wine about there is no PvP has not spent a lot of time in the battleground there currently is or they are judging the system from the beta's point of view which is incorrect.
A few months after the release 24 april i'm sure that the battleground will be a popular zone to visit and wrack up some Destinypoints for buffs, titles and PvP fun.
Plus Turbine also said they will be looking into many enhancements for PvM
battleground because they want that kind of PvP to be a fully playable and fun endgame enjoyment.
I'm sure that in the future we will see more battlegrounds.
maybe new weapons.armor for use in the PvM zone attained by getting PvM points and so on?
Maybe some locked keeps ala DAOC and siege engines?
Judging the battlezone from the beta is not fair.
Give it atleast 2 months after release wso enough players have maded it to level 50 and then let's see how it works out.

i'm buying it 'cause there is no PVP
Plenty of games out there with it already
If you want a game more focused on PvP there is others to buy out there maybe LoTR is not what you want.
I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.
"You have the right not to be killed"
I really like the way they have implemented it.
Most people don't want to play PvP.
If Darkfall or AOC or WAR surpasses a few milliion subs, then I will know I am wrong. (Assuming Darkfall ever is released).
It's funny - I generalyl HATE PvP - I've never playing a game where PvP was fun or exciting to me, because quite frankly, I'm a casual player who doesn't have the time to get all the best gear and uuber skillz to realyl compete in 'real' PvP. What Turbine did with monster play is actually brilliant IMHO, because I don't have to get the uuber gear or grind the same raid quest for 3 weeks to get the 'leet dagger of stabbyness' in order to compete with everyone else - I can level to 10, jump into a level 50 warg, and go and have fun and be effective in PvP right away. It's the very best PvP system I've ever seen for more causal players who might not normally bother with the PvP aspect of the game.
That being said, you can level up your PVP Freep, make sure you have the uuber gear and skills, and have a damn good time in PvP that way too, because you're always going to be outnumbered by the Creeps, so it really IS a challenge, it really IS about teamwork and skill at that point. It really is a refreshing and fun system - unless all you want to do is gank noobs and grief players, and then, thankfully, LOTRO is not for you.

This is just my opinion. But i think all of them saying ther is no real PvP are all hardcore gamers and PvPers. Who have the time to spend gettting all of the uber gear, and running the long raids for weeks on ends to get that gear. They like haveing hordes of casual players who are easy targets and don't have the uber gear to PvP with. They like that they are on top always and the best at PvP.
Now turbine has turned the tables on them. Making it so everyone who does Monster play start out on a lvl ground. You don't end up with a huge lvl differance for easy kills. There is no ultra uber PvP gear that makes you a god in PvP. For these reasons i think they call it not real PvP.
Extremely well put Grindalyx...you've hit the nail right on the head with this summary. (as did a few other folks)
Ignore the gankers.... LotRO has PvP.... implemented differently than other game to be sure, but if you really are interested in proving you can smack down more people than anyone else, on a fairly level playing field, then LotRO is for you.
But...if ganking lowbies, or the undergeared, or people busy doing Pve tasks is your main goal...then better pick a different game.

I didn't get a chance to try it yet as I just started the game [and lagged my a$$ off on my old computer]. I hope to play a lot of nights this week, 'cause it'll be unplayable for me once Open Beta starts.
When I looked in the evil scrying pool [or whatever it was called], all the monsters were level 50... Are PMs levelable? Anyone try it since Friday able to explain MP to me?

Hi Uncus...
PMs start at level 50, but they are 'basic' level 50; you can 'level' them by buying skills and upgrades, new apprearances, etc.. you can rank up by killing PCs and gaining 'infamy', and that unlocks even more abilities and skills. Eventually, you can become the equivlent of the high-end 'elite' mobs, so even though your 'level' still says 50, you can gain a great deal of strength, skills, etc.... It's actually a really fun and innovative system...

Thanks for the info, DJ.
I'd have rather seen monsters start at 1 or 10 and just be like "alts", maybe forcibly moved to another area every 10 levels, but hey it's Turbine's game so they can do it their way. I'm loving the PvE, quests, and beginning to like crafting [though I have yet to see if all progress is lost if you switch professions, then switch back]. 2Bill Founders' ftw!

Im content with the system they have in place, but Im sorry you wont be able to take you character to starter zones and kill players 40 levels below you.
