"We were unable to delete the infected file (C:documents and settingsownerlocal settings empMsxoO.dll) from your PC"

so, was that from clicking on an ad or just visiting the site itself?

Visiting the site. at 1st the IE dropped to desktop. then when i opened the site I got the anti-virus message, and then another when i opened the site again later on (some type of JPG file). It was about 11:00 am EST.

I can't find a log on the two other virus that I've already deleted..and it's taking hour's for the AV to scan for spyware.

No, I did'nt see any information about it on the main page after a few hour's, so I figured I would warn people on the forums.

what kind of anti-virus program are you currently using? and do you have any malware (spyware, adware, ect.) protection? and finally what fire wall are you using? oh and i would recomend using a different browser, Firefox is my favorite and of course it is free.

I got the trojan as well and can't seem to remove it - and I have it on work computer. :-( Please tell me all this thing does is steal Lineage 2 passwords because it might cost me my job. I thought this site could be trusted but apparently not. :-(

McAfee cought it as soon as it was installed and removed the Mxo0.dll file, but it keeps coming back every time I re-start the computer. :-( McAfee and AdAware can't detect anything in the system besides that one file the former claims to have deleted, but how else could it keep coming back if there isn't a source program runnin somewhere?

I never keep any ActiveX enabled but this thing still got through. :-( I'm not touching IE again for as long as I live, and the same might go for this website for allowing this to happen.

I think you've already stated your first problem. You're using IE. For the sake of your computer's security, please use something a bit more secure than IE. Firefox and Opera are both good choices.

AOL Saftey & Secuitry center (Up-to-date)

Malware/Spyware included (Scanning that now) & Firewall also. I belive it's all based off of Mc'Affee.

I'm not really interested in FireFox to be honest..It's probably just as virus-prone, people just like to pick on Microsoft ;)

I actually have to use Internet Explorer and Firefox regularly where I work. To be honest yes spyware is a issue on Firefox.

Not to the same extent as IE though. Id highly recommend switching over to Firefox and installing some more virus protection.

sorry to tell you but IE is not as secure as FF. when IE6 was out there were several know security holes that microsoft neglected to fix, and it looks like the same is happening to IE7. if your AOL software isn't working try using HijackThis and post your log on their fourms and they will tell you how to get rid of it.

oh and yes reformating will get rid of the virus if done correctly but you realize that it deletes ALL of the data on your computer right. this means pics, music, docs, whatever... so if you are going to reformat you will have to back all that up (and i dont mean with the microsoft tools) if you want to keep it. Not to mention once you do reformat you will have to reinstall your os, and as if that doesnt take long enough you have to update your os after that and reinstall of of your old programs, and update all of them.

so really reformating your computer is just a last resort. i would recomend that you try doing everything before you decide to reformat...

    good luck

What is the corect way to re-format?  Lucky for me, this is just my gaming computer..the above person seem's to have gotten hit alot harder...

And this was all avoidable, fyi everyone. MMORPG.COM knew that the virus would come back & Continued to keep the website up and running/

Have you tried booting into safe mode and removing the virus/spyware/infected files/etc?

    * I would also personally reccomend Mozilla Firefox.  I've been using it for over a year, great application and just as user friendly as IE.  And I'm not a Microsoft hater, I just found Firefox's performance and functionality to be overall better than IE.  Tabbed browsing is what originally attracted me.  Small download too, if that's any concern.

I dont know where the files are located exactally..I never got into the techincal aspect of computer's..always felt that it was made more complicated that was needed to justify  the tech industry..

IE is for total noobs. And I'm not picking on Microsoft.

C:documents and settingsownerlocal settings empMsxoO.dll ? That is where one infected file is located.  According to your original post.  Then just try running your anti-virus/spyware software in Safe Mode, if you don't know how to boot into Safe Mode, if I'm not mistaken on the correct key, you hit F8 while booting up, you'll eventually get a menu with Safe Mode as one of the choices.

Don't use things like Norton or Internet Explorer to protect your computer, heck, even firewalls seem to be a load of crap these days because company servers are more secure than they were before, there are plenty of free anti-virus and anti-spyware software to use out there, the same goes for browsers.

    - Spybot Search and Destroy

    - Mozilla Firefox

    - AVG Free Edition

This is the software I use to make sure my computers properly protected, the main thing you just have to do after that is do a scan maybe I don't know once every couple of weeks, you just have to be careful, when you download something, check that it's from a trustable source, check the file size (if a file isn't the size it should be then it's likely to be a 'fake' file containing a virus, or it'll be just some random file that will get virus' or spyware loaded on your computer) usually with the not so damaging ones you can just load up any of the above anti-virus and spyware software and they will get rid of them for you, if it's something like a trojan, I'd recommend a complete re-install, it can be bothersome, but a good idea would be also to get a external hard drive, so if you get a virus you can just quickly unplug the thing before all the stuff in your computer goes to hell, the most dangerous virus' out there are the ones that effect the system32 folder (basically the original windows folder in the drive)

Be careful is all I can say after that, going on the internet is really a sink or swim experience, you have to know what to look out for so you don't get caught out by it.

Quoting people doesn't make you clever, in fact, it makes you all the more stupid for not bothering to read the quotes you post in the first place.

^^ that is the one sure way to get rid of viruses just make a floppy and boot it up. and remember copy all of your files ( music, docs, pics, ect.) on to a CD/DVD or load them up to a server or another HDD or somthing because this thing nukes the HDD. Meaning if you use most backup tools, it won't work.

Please try my recommendation before formatting, I don't think your virus/trojan situation is severe enough to require it but like another user suggested, an alternative virus/spyware scanner would be a good idea.  I use AVG also, I did use Spybot but last time I checked, it hadn't been updated in awhile.  I used the free online scanner from www.spywareguide.com somewhat recently at a friend's house, worked well, removed a few things and seems to stay updated.

The thing is, I've just got no idea where the file's have gone to now lol. That was the original one, the MsXoO, but when i ran anti-virus there were two other's & I got a JPG one from this site the 2nd time that i visited. Those are great link's though, i apprecate the info on AV software, ect.

I can't stand Mc'affee/Norton's anyhow as they minimize whatever im doing and taking full control over the computer to let me know it updated/ want's to get updated/ want's to offer me an upgrade.

Well, it's good to know my home PC will be fine, as I use Firefox there.  My work PC, which I am on now, has IE.  And of course, I am in a locked down environment, so I cannot install Firefox.

This should be interesting.  I can see this site getting blocked here soon.  /sigh
