Umm, your going to need more Servers

Based on the number of pre-orders and the number of World Tour signups.

Without more Servers, the system is going to come to a grinding halt.

And the Beta Testers know that is an accurate description of what happens when the Servers are overloaded.

They have more ready when they need them.

They said so in yesterdays Devchat.

    Sweet.

Probably learned from Blizzard's mistake on that one.

Always nice to run into a company that does some research and learns from others.

So far, the whole LOTRO experience seems to have been that way.

As a beta tester, I know they have told us they have plenty of servers ready to turn on.

They also joked that if they needed more than they have available, they'd take the dump trucks full of money and get more.

Don't worry, it is still BETA.

I had a little lag when I first zoned into Archet, but nothing like when I did during beta stress tests.

I expect Turbine to push the limit on number of people per server during this week. Next week, I expect them to

open a lot more servers. However it is still beta, and they want to see what the limits are.

We are playing for free right now. When we get to retail, they will make sure it is smooth as silk.

    Yup.  I get it.

I think you are correct in your assesment of Launch day too.

I keep forgeting that THIS is NOT the actual Launch; it is still beta.

Imagine that.  Another company doing real testing.  And it looks like it will be successful, just like that *other* company that did a lot of testing on their game.  And *not* like the latest other set of games released by companies that did NOT do adequate testing.  And have flopped, or are in the process of flopping, because of it.

Today isn't really the big day, April 6 will be the day the floodgates open. I bet they at least double the number of servers next Friday.

If this game will be the success that everyone predicts it to be, then I am sure Turbine will crank up more servers very soon.

The big question will be, how many servers will be half empty when a) the big names of this fall release ,or b) the first wave of people hits max level. Thats the testing point for a game then. Look at Vanguard, some WoW servers how it can turn out... you got some full (which people migrate to) and some half-dead (which more people leave still). Depending on how good or bad a servers community is, its possible we end up with servers like some in WoW that got a reputation so good that people end up fighting for chars and slots on that server on ebay.

I'm not worried.  First, because of the waiting servers. Second, because stress test went amazingly well. Third, because the preorder open beta had 3 or 4 servers (of the 7) queuing, including mine, and there were no problems that I saw or heard of.  Those servers are stable at full load with a lot of concentration.

    Good Job!

I hadn't even contemplated playing this game, but with all the positive comments that I'm hearing (plus the beta client installed and ready to go) if it's what people say it is then I may well be playing this during my wait for AoC.
