felt like i was spending more time travelling then actually playing.
still a good game and I may pick it back up again. ima scifi mmo fan and this one is definately on the scifi tip
I also like a game where you spend a lot of time as your actual avatar/toon. just felt disconnected in eve because your avatar is a ship... or shipssssss
I quit for a number of reasons, some may find them valid or not but they were valid to me at the time.
1: Repetitive. Often I logged on and found myself doing the same things over and over with no real variety.
2: Constant jumping. The corp I was with kept moving HQ for various reasons. One evening I spent 5 hours straight moving equipment. I got really drunk.
3: The carrot wasn't there to continue. I looked at 0.0 when I first joined the game and thought, yeah that's it baby. I listened to corp mates who had gone to 0.0 and it was not that exciting for them.
On saying all of that though, I probably will return because there is nothing else out there that I like. Most of my issues seem to be corp based...maybe a change of corp was really what was needed. I dunno.. we'll see.
I just can't see the point in the game. Combat is just a matter of picking a target and firing your weapons, plus activating your tanking when under fire. Fleet combat sounds much worse with the focus fire tactic. Over 90% of combat is in the "build", not user skill.
T1 crafting is Walmart style - Whoever is willing to value themselves the least gets sales, as there is no differentiation in terms of quality. T2 crafting is, well... Let's just say it's irrelevant since so few people get to participate.
The FFA PvP nature of the game means everyone is very distrustful and you have to practically go through an interview to get into a 0.0 corp. The idea of being a freewheeling 0.0 trader doesn't exist as everyone is a paranoid isolationist or bored ganker.
There's so little to actually _do_ in the game that people go about ganking for lack of a better thing to do. This is partially linked to how skill advancement works. Since there is no benefit skill wise to performing any activity at all and it's so difficult to get involved in a group, ganking is a very prominent activity.
I started EvE and thought it was pretty good. Then as time went by I found that I was setting a skill going and either logging out or tabbing out to read some forums until it was time to train a new skill.
It then dawned on me that I'd never be able to catch up.
Just bought the game the other day (after 7 days of trial) and I love it! Found myself a nice little friendly corp that kinda guided me through the first couple of days. Now I make my living as a trader. Got myself a Bestower! Later today I'll have the skills to fly Omen! Will be fun to do some mining with that thing (and some PvE combat).
Got a tutor for advanced trading, he's showing me nice tricks how to make even more ISK. Got a plan of skills I need (so many skills, so little time ) so it will be fun. And it is fun. I don't care if some people don't like it, I don't care what's going on with some BoB and devs, that is lighyears away from me. Just little trader trying to make a living
I did run in to two pirates some days ago... Annoying little buggers I must say. But I waited a bit and they just went to bug some other poor guy, I did made a mill on a trade run tho, suckers
I've tried many MMOs but EvE is the only one that really is deep. It is shame that crafting is not as big as in SWG but I still like it. Love the whole space feel to it, jumping from station to station and trading goods. Hoping for some RP too... But I guess that will go big once the station walks are in the game.
Only thing I hate about EvE... Is this darn down time due the patch
Every time I read your post, I die a little inside...
EvE has alot of good points about it and Im playing it now, although its barely holding my interest there are some very bad things about it:
Travel time is absolutly rediculous being the first and foremost that comes to mind....downtime is obscene
no character besides a portrait....not a HUGE deal to me but it would be great for a change of pace....they are working on letting you walk around Hubs but besides doing research or something like that, I cant imagine what fun that will be...who knows though.
if you like to solo, it can be very boring, especially as a newer player....so many people say its not fun at all....and the usual comeback is "join a corp and youll see how fun it is"....while its true that joining a corp makes it a bit more socially fun since the community is really nice people, god forbid if you want to team up with them and theyre 25 jumps away (which more than likely they will be)...and to top it off..when you do finally see them, all you will see is thier ship which looks exactly like all the rest of the people playing.
Dont get me wrong..there are TONS of good things about EvE, epecially if you like a big learning curve there is alot to discover, but the avg gamer out there probably wouldnt make it past the first week or 2. CCP is fully aware of this though and while they take very small strides to open it up to more players, im not sure it will ever have more players than it has now. In my humble opinion, if they simply fixed the travel/downtime problem, they would pick up alot more people, although you get the impression theyre not overly concerned with the negatives as they are pretty straightforward about it being the way they want it. I give them credit for sticking to thier philosophy on how it should be, but like i said...most people arent going to make it past the free subscription period.
Anyway, Ill quit because a game comes out with less downtime and more things to do both on and off the ground with much less downtime.
Why on earth would stationwalking improve the game ? I play a game to play it .. and walking around on the station would NOT be playing it as that can only be achieved by actually flying around doing stuff.
However if it did mean you could activliy be part of the station defence like manning some missilebattery or railguns or whatever then yeah then stationwalking would be kinda cool.
Edit:
I did quit EVE-Online because of the dev-thing... and how CCP did do the things after... and I went on to play WoW instead.
Now I am a lvl 40 Blood Elf Paladin on Stormreaver doing my stuff there (actually is only lvl 39 but close to lvl 40)...
Anyway so far I am actually quite enjoying my time on WoW because I do stuff like some questing to get new gear or some gold and ofcourse to advance in levels but mainly I do PvP in WoW and I do attack Allied in any contested areas that I can find and have a chance on well have actually attacked guys I don't have a chance at too .
I have not done much Battlegrounds but some... and our Guild have been created with the purpose to do PvP not this PvE shit...
This is what I do while I wait for Age of Conan.... or Darkfall possible.

Actually there are many people who spend large amounts of their game time sitting in station either setting up manufacturing jobs or handling corp related stuff. Currently they just sit with the camera rotating around their ship but in the future they will be able to sit in thier office and do everything. I know it seems like a small thing but to those who do those kinds of things and enjoy them it will be a huge boost to thier gameply. (I'm not one of those people btw. shooty shooty pew pew for me)
- Its a Pk'ers wet dream. Most people live for the chance to grief on other people in the game. They spend all their play time sitting in gatecamps or scamming or stealing from people.
- There is no PvP, its either gank or get ganked. Most PvP consists of being attacked by a blob or attacking others in a blob. When you do get or make a 1v1 for PvP people cheat and call in a gang when they start losing.
- Because its "just a game" people think they do not have to respect other people. They say what they like and do what they like, and you must just take it "coz its just a game".
- The little playtime I have I want to spend with adults that act like adults and show a little respect for the way I want to play the game.
- I don't mine ... I hate it. I don't get trading either. The only way left for me to make money, which I find reasonable fun, is to do missions. CCP is making so many changes to this by dropping bounties and loot, moving the best mission agents to a few systems which is perma-camped by pirates.
Zero Fun. And sorry I dont play games to get griefed by all means possible and sanctioned either by oversight or subdued intent of the developers. And don't tell me its because I am not a PvP'er ... I most probably have more kills than you have.
So when you get to the point where you log in, sit in the station spinning your ship, wondering what to do ... then its time to quit.
Actually I did that, I where a CEO of a small corp and in charge of the main production so I spent alot of time organizing the inventory of the hangars... buy orders and so on... but I still would not need a station to walk around in.
There are so many other things that CCP should take care of rather than introducing this kind of gadget to EVE.
I used to play Eve. But never as a main game. I had other games that I played more for various reasons. So I didn't get that much time into Eve, and because of that I never got really involved. So it always felt like I was only clicked a few buttons here and there, changing skills and just floating outside the real game. More of a problem at my end, than the game. I really like the look, the feel and the concept of the game.
I tend to float in between EVE and several other single player and real life games like Warhammer 40k, While i no longer drop my subscription to EVE there are many a times that I am just training skills in dock. Just ride the wave of what you enjoy atm.
edit: oh yeah can't wait for the walking in stations might actually get my girlfriend to play
I quit EVE several times and started over again every time. Except for last time i really had enough of it and i think i'm done with EVE forever (although i can't resist to peek in now and then with a trial to breath the atmosphere).
Anyway, EVE is really a brilliant game but there are some basic issues which tend to make it very boring and repetetive. I guess you all know what i mean, someone said it before: if you are spinning around in that station and wonder what to do, then it's time to quit.
And when you actually have something in mind, then be prepared for another boring 20 jumps.
I tend to be a loner when it comes to MMORPG. I enjoy corps/guilds very much, don't get me wrong, but mostly i like to play on my own as i want to be free and enjoy my time. EVE isn't designed to play alone. Eventually you want to go to 0.0 and at that time you are simply forced to join a corp. As long as you play alone, you will have to be satisfied with the small things and that gets extremely boring and repetitive after a while. Changing skills, trading, missions, mining, all of it is so repetitive and useless.
Also the fact that the game lacks any connection with real situations doesn't make it any better. With this i mean that all you see in the game is your ship in a station or your ship in front of the same repetitive background. I believe they will improve this by making walking ava's available in stations and by beeing able to land on planets, but i doubt it will make much difference.
Therefore, i will continue to drop by in EVE now and then with a trial, just to look how the universe progresses with each update, but paying 15€ every month is simply paying to get bored which you can as well do for free...
Eves # 1 issues is that you NEED to have peopel to play it with ... meaning you need to find them some how.
"Society in every state is a blessing, but government even in its best state is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one ..." - Thomas Paine
I left EVE, having felt there was no more enjoyment left for me. Played since the game retailed, started with a miner, built my own corp up and made daily deals of 8 digits. Due to various reasons my corp was kicked out of our alliance space, my corp members I had known for over a year left and I decided for a change. In October I decided to PVP for a change, what I found was something I didint enjoy. Gank based combat that orientated about lagg and exploiting game mechanics. While I found being a PVPer in EVE the most adrenaline rushing thing of all MMO's I just dont enjoy the mechanics the pvp is formed around.
Eves # 1 issues is that you NEED to have peopel to play it with ... meaning you need to find them some how.
This begs the question of why you are playing a MMORPG. No, see with many games you can live off of having like 6 friends , eve requires many more. But more so than that is the fact that its not easy to find friends ... there are no "sides" , people will rarely pug a 0.0 mining op / complexe/ratting or pvp. It is not easy to meet friends in EVE.
"Society in every state is a blessing, but government even in its best state is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one ..." - Thomas Paine
I like EVE in everyway other then the PvP. I almost feel as though the PvP was made the primary focus of the game because when it was launched they didn't have the reasources to make proper PvE levels and all that good stuff. As others said though PvP in MMORPGs is just so much about getting together in a group and focus firing, or using small exploits for a edge up. I guess its because I high a high stress job that I don't want to be constantly stressed out and looking over my shoulder in a game. :P
I quit playing mostly because the friend that got me to join the game switched to WoW at the same time my corp folded. I was having alot of fun with them and with out them it didn't seem wroth it, so now I'm a LVL 46 Orc Warlock on Hakkar.
I don't plan to stop playing EVE anytime soon, I am currently in D2 which is part of a large coalition that is at war with BOB. This is the biggest war that eve has ever seen, and I am happy to be a part of it.
So in short I dont plan to leave for a long time.
But if did leave EVE it would be only due to boredom.
I stopped playing EVE because I lost my faith in CCP's fairness moderating a game that they also play. They way that they handled the T20 scandal was horrible, and they won't comment on the major issues with event info leaks. They seem to think that writing a few blogs, ignoring the vast majority of the questions raised, and by giving someone a title (Director of Internal Affairs) is enough to regain trust. They talk a good game, but until I see more, it's just talk.
CCP is acting as if we should just trust them to do the right thing. That would have worked before, but not now. A reputation is at least ten times harder to build than to destroy. It's even harder to get back when people trusted you because there is a sense of betrayal.
I have a number of other friends who stopped playing for this same reason. Many are off playing other MMOs, but all of us agree that if the only MMO was EVE, we'd find something else to do.
I'm still hoping to come back, but a recent statement by Kieron makes that unlikely. According to Kieron, if the players don't like it, they can get out. "If a member of the EVE community finds he or she cannot accept our current level of transparency, we bid you good luck in finding a company that meets your needs." (on page 3 of this thread)
Yes for me it was the ccp cheating and cover up. Then ok we fixed it believe us again all better now. Then more cheating and scandle found. Kind of like ignore the man behind the curtain hes just a maintanance guy I am the great and powerfull CCP.
well I havent quit EvE never will and well I do play mmorpgs for my paycheck and some times I dont have time to login to eve but here comes the skills system in Idont need to login every day.
Originally posted by Nooblord I started EvE and thought it was pretty good. Then as time went by I found that I was setting a skill going and either logging out or tabbing out to read some forums until it was time to train a new skill. It then dawned on me that I'd never be able to catch up.
catch up ?? hm think you missed the point now EvE aint about having great deal of sp it's your own brain that deside how good you are in eve.

Supporting my corporation gives the game meaning for me. Perhaps you guys just need to join a better, more exciting corporation?
I think having avatars walking in stations will improve this as it will make everything more personal.
