Persoanlly I hope in time they'll open up the option to get a pet to all classes. I really dislike when games limit you on things that should be an option to all.
Why do I write, create, fantasize, dream and daydream about other worlds? Because I hate what humanity does with this one.
like in WoW? now almost every class has a pet in some form: mages got the water elemental, priests got the shadowfiend, shamans have the elementals, and who knows what will be next?
no thanks, i prefer a wider variety of elements for all the classes
No no not like in WoW where every class gets a pet. Completely not what I mean. I mean every player is able to choose to have a pet, of their choice, not dictated by their class. So if I am an Elf Hunter and want a Wolf, I can buy one. If I am a Dwarf Guardian and for some reason want a crow/raven, I can buy one. Pets aren't a necessity to me, but I just like options.

Certain classes get pets as part of their balancing.
Personally, Id rather play a class with NO pet that was adjusted to have other things to compensate for their lack of a pet, ie more damage, stronger heals, whatever.
If everyone had a pet it would be kind of stupid. Unless you mean like a 'fluff' pet for aesthetics only.
Gaming? That's not gaming! That's just people sat 'round in costumes drinking...
Minstrels, Loremasters and Captains are all healers to some degree. Minstrels being #1.
Holy sticks! This game is going to be interesting and fun.
Well not really, Minstrels, being #1 healers, have 3 heals total..... fast, small single heal, slow large single heal, slow group heal with a few seconds buff added on top. That's it. There's some abilities adding to morale regeneration or stuff like your next 3 melee special attacks adding a bit of morale to the group, but nothing major. Of course there's the usual "omg heal everyone INSTANTLY and give me killer aggro that no one can ever take off of me so i just die anyway and the skill recharges for ages" one, but that's the exceptional one you rarely do (and can rarely do because of recharge) Loremasters have a morale transfer thing with a pretty high return rate, and lots of curative stuff for status effects. Captain has a shout that heals morale after an enemy is defeated, and various buffy stuff.
Worst of all is, even the minstrels heals have a cooldown timer. (Ive not yet played a single game where all heals, even the smallest one, for the primary healer class had a cooldown timer, and i personally think dying because of that is a very, very bad way of dying). Not to forget that pretty much any other skill, even party buffs, that minstrels get work off of other skills that target enemies, or have to be targetted on an enemy themselves to fire, and there's no target forwarding. So either you switch like mad or you just dont do anything other than healing and pressing the 3 lone heal buttons.
Ive enjoyed playing primary healers with massive specialization in pure healing and lack of everything else in lots of games, but i cant even really specialize in it. Only to a small extent via some traits is the only way i can possibly give minor boosts to the ability, but nothing like forfeiting other stuff to be a great healer.

You're thinking of UO here? Taming restriced to the designated class, and max number of pets determined by taming skill or something equivalent? And you can have all kinds of stuff, useless decorative animals like frogs or ravens, up to predatory ones?[/quote]

Right now, only Lore Masters and Captains get pets. The captain's pet is actually his "herald" that carries a banner that offers an Area of Effect buff to anyone in his fellowship and can also contribute some minor DPS to a fight. The Lore Master's pets are true pets (raven, bear, or eagle) that focus primarily on assisting in a fight, although the raven does offer a nice "shadow mitigation" AoE that helps against undead.
Comments
Loremasters are the pet class in this game.
Hunters are the nuker/ranged dps in this game.
Loremasters arent healers.
Minstrels are.
No, hunter do not get pets in LOTRO. Hunters are the high dps class in LOTRO.
Hunters in World of Warcraft get pets.
Captains and Lore Masters get pets in LOTRO.
