As far as the comp between COH and GW, I still stand by my assesment that COH is more intertaining, reason being in GW you double click and enemy will just start bashing away and I'll just watch the action, then from time to time I'll click on a "skill" for some added attck punch. Maybe I'm doing it wrong but you can't say SG has more dynamic fighting than COH. I just wich you could block/attck realtime not this turnbased (by that I mean hitting and avoiding attacks are mathematical probabilities based on your character stats vs the enemies, not somehting you directly do a la soul calibur, or a ninje gaiden, hell or even zleda from the n64) crap all mmo's have to some extent. Damn you D&D. Who ever makes are real time fighting mmorpg, they will own all the market, since it would be pure skill and lvl would be rendered useless, the outcomes of the fights being soley dependent on you and not stats.
Well if you want an FPS or TPS, there are plenty of them. They all are based on your button smashing skill. They have real time collision systems too. So go and play them, Guild Wars wants to be a Role Playing Game, and Role Playing doesn't have to do anything with how fast you can hit certain button combinations on your mouse/keybord'joystick. So if you don't like it, why whining about it ? Obviously this game is not made for you.
sounds like you guys just want to run in kills stuff midlessly and then run out.
go play.. I dunno D2 if you want to do that guildwars was DESIGNED as a game that requires strategy and teamwork. Obviously you dont like either of those, so go play diablo, or some other similar game that oyu just midlessly kill, and stop complaining
thats like saying "I dont like Civilization 3 cause there wasnt enough action in the combat, I wanted to control my troops in real time' Civilization 3 WAS DESIGNED as a strategy game, with trun based system.
Guild wars was DESIGNED as a RPG with elements of strategy and PLAYER skill.
To wrap it up, and at the same time bring myself down to your level. Your and idiot, its like compairing peanutbutter to Ham, just shut up, and move on, Guildwars isnt the game for you, so just give up, we all love it.
after 6 or so years, I had to change it a little...
Originally posted by bellcurve0 Sweet graphics, but that's about it. It's Rune multi-player... but at least Rune had a better fighting sys. There is nothing very innovative about it. I don't really care how far away it's from being shipped, and that there is so much they haven't added in yet, at it's core this game is only about fighting and the fightings blows, hell City of Heroes' system is much more exciting.
I played the E3 demo and all fighting was real time what are you talking about here? All my hotbar skill work with the keyboard I didn't have to click anything..
I think your in the wrong forum or something because everything you posted here I never saw in the E3 tryout.

Well since MMoRPG is based on RPG leveling you will never see what your asking for or it would not be a MMoRPG. There is always SB or Plantside if you like that stuff but since both of those titles are doing very poorly your idea will not own anything. It might be right for you but I know from exp that the average player doesn't like it and since they want to make money they make games for the average player. You mentioned a bunch of consol games if you like those why not just go play them? I am not sure what your point is here from your post I think you don't like MMoRPG's and if thats true thats great don't play one. As for CoH I have it and it blows compared to GW's. CoH is just endless leveling crap with no loot/item/epic quest/end game.
Your entitled to you opinion but if CoH was your cup of tea then you would not be playing GW anyways you would be playing CoH. So I take it CoH isn't your thing either.
Looks like L2 / RYL crap. Flashy spells arent all there is to great graphics.Theres no "meat" to these games graphics. You can get the feeling they are computer game graphics. Many years ago in EQ and even UO ,even though the graphics werent fantastic ,I still forgot that it was a game ,as such ,while playing them. The new mmos are all the same bland souless crap.
So your saying GW has worse graphics than OU and EQ? If so you need new glasses or need a set.
Play GW ,RYL and L2 and be hard pushed for someone to tell they arent same game (unless yer a fan or online game follower etc).
L2 you have to click the ground to move around and there PvP sucks. RYL is not even in the running. GW will rule all this year.
I hate people that think MMoRPG's need graphics. I would hate to play any MMoRPG with the best graphics for meny reasons.
LAG
System Requirements
Developement money into art not game
and did I mention LAG
I was shocked at how great GW's is with its balance of great graphics and no LAG. This game is going to be a fantastic release and one that the MMoRPG community neded to see out.

I just want to point something out to some of you...
NCSoft does not develop games. They are a publisher. What this means is that they signed a contract to take these titles (because they feel they are sellable) and bring them to market. They do have some influence in marketing decisions as well as some of the content that can/can't appear in the game.
However, the publisher does not do *any* programming or game deveopment. They just get the games in the stores and sometimes provide financial aid and guidance. This is just like the music industry. You have an artist and a record label (ie publisher).
To go off on NCSoft (or EA or UbiSoft, etc) is just silly. It is like saying "that Britney Spears album sucks! I bet all albums under the Jive Records label suck too!"
If you feel the game was poorly developed, this would be ArenaNet you would want to focus your flames at

first of all, guildwar is an ALL AMERICAN game. it's made in Washington by 3 guys from Blizzard who made battlenet, warcraft 2/3, starcraft and world of warcraft.
fyi, NCsoft is GW's PUBLISHER. a publisher doesn't make the game, they're primarily responsible for logistics: hiring trucks to move boxes to your mall, doing advertising, pressing the disks, and funding. saying something retarded about NCsoft's games being same is like refusing to play a game bought from walmart because you didnt like some game you bought there earlier. it's ignorance. there's no other way to put it.
as for wanting a mmpog that's real-time. retarded. simply there is no technology to support this. why dont you bitch that you want a 3D game that lets you have electrodes attached to your head so you can see the game in your head and not use your hands. why dont you wish for some more crap that is impossible for today's technology
GW is awesome. the hardest thing is to balance pvp... it's got balance. it rocks

1. Rune had it's own multiplayer, I enjoyed it very much for it required great controller skill. Also it had a decent amount of gore, which is always nice to have in this genre. Also it had a nice skeletal collision system. Some say Blade of Darkness was better but I never got the chance to play that.
One thing good to remember here is that a real time skeletal or polygon based collision system is very hard to implement in a MMORPG, because it raises very much the amount of data which must be sent to and back from the client. Lots of different, real time generated coordinates must be sent. So this is why real targeting is still missing from MMORPGs and this is also the main reason for online FPS games having a limited number of players in a certain arena.
Also a real time collison/targeting system brings in the element of luck, which might prove to be fun, but it makes much harder to balance an RPG.
I also think that Guild Wars has a lot to offer to button smashers, too. I wonder if you played in the Arena, where hitting the Heal or Power Attack button just a fraction of a second later made you lose the match. Heck, there's a lot of adrenalin in those matches. You might have to think fast, though, before you hit buttons following your real life reflexes.
I find the system compelling, rewarding, simply put, I find it to be fun. Voot ! ArenaNet, NCsoft, ship it dammit !
There is much more strategy to this game than "point-and-click", even if one were to play just a Warrior. Take a look at http://www.guild-hall.net/ and get a better idea of all the cards that even a Warrior can bring to the table. Using just "Healing Signet" and one attack skill falls drastically short of every character's potential.

Finally, the answer to my original post. Thanks Hubert

Its your opinion. I'm all for you being able to state it, but please, spend more time reading through the threads and post on a thread already started about the topic.
