Best pvp game out there?

mugsmugs Member Posts: 11
I played UO from beta until 2005, i quit the game so many times i cant remember, every new expansion would kill the game we knew and teach us that all the pvp skills we had meant nothing and we would need to learn to fight against Itens, not players. I played daoc, lineage, beta tested so many other mmos, always WISHing that i could find a game to pvp and develop pvp skills where players couldnt hide in safe areas, failed. After all that i played WoW from 2005 until BC, at first i was happy with the fights, always finding hordes to find, learning how to fight against each class, as a mage there wasnt a class i couldnt kill, i didnt had the gear, but that didnt really matter, i started doing bgs, all day long playing against hordes, wich at a later date became friends, getting on my guild vent... its good when your enemies starts to respect you, so you know who they are and they know who you are, always trying to be better than they are... and blizzard start the servers pvp, not only the world pvp was broke, now the battlegrounds are pointless.... i was commander and had a group full of ppl asking to get in everyday so i decided to keep going the pvps, after i got to field marshal i was playing almost 20 hours of full pvp! And again my Fun or Need to play becomes broke by a game company, they were removing the ranks, 1 more week to get GM but the patch ruined it...

Another game i dedicated thousands of pointless hours....

I made into a big guild, was doing Naxx and Burning Crusader comes out... i say f*** you blizzard.

Now i am jumping from game to game, from alpha to beta, only to find carebears, lag and bugs.

There are so many games out there, all alike and i cant keep looking in the dark for the right one, so i am here to ask if any of you know a game with real pvp?

No item based pvp, no level caps that keep getting increased, and no place where you can walk safe with your pet singing happy songs.

Sorry for the bad english btw.

Well I was going to recommend DAoC, even with the New Frontiers it's still a very good game, but you said you already tried it...

You could try Guild Wars out, it has some nice pvp systems, the GvG is pretty fun and there are several arenas and different pvp games. If Dragon Raja was still alive I would tell you to check it out, the war system is totaly crazy and it used to be a free game (you'd like it if you don't mind poor graphics and hacks lol). But other than that I really don't know what to tell you.. Maybe EVE, I don't really know because that game bores the hell out of me, but I heard the pvp can be interesting.

The PvP in GW is pretty good, its not gear based but skilled based. Depends on how you build your character and what you want him to do. PLus you can only choose from 8 skills/abilities when you go fight. Making it very intresting. Making no to same characters in PvP alike due to choice of build.

IMO in the current market EvE-O and L2 have the most fun pvp overall. PvP in each of those has a purpose which for me is a must. Only drawback is that L2 has a huge grind compared to other games so if thats nto your thing then look away (i personnaly dont mind).

EvE on the other hand is a completely different animal. Its a sci-fi and staged in space. PvP there can be from a simple 1v1 to massive 500 v 500 (gl w the lag though). Most people will complain about the slow start and that is true. Though in all fairness to the game has given new players a chance to do more in the beginnin starting with revelations one (expansion). Also before i get some nutcase posting :

"but a since skills are trained real time instead of a grind ull never be as good as the vets skill waise waaaaaaambulanceee"

Quick response, all skills max at 5 therefore a vet will most likely be good at multiple ship rather that what most people think of him just having the best of the best for every ship. The fact that the skill cap is 5 means that a noob can quickly become a top pilot for a frigate per say, and in a a few months can have done the same with cruisers etc. Another point and perhaps the most important is that skill points arent the only factor in pvp, but rather tactics and set ups of the ships.

If you play this game join a corp since you like pvp make sure its a pvp corp or ull end up in a mining corp and will wanna shoot yourself. Any other questions ill gladly answer or you may post in the EvE section of the forum, there are many helpfull players there that can give you a heads up.

Ive played both of those games for a while (L2 = 2 yrs, EvE = 1yr) So im sure i know what im talking about.

    5. No item based pvp, no level caps that keep getting increased, and no place where you can walk safe with your pet singing happy songs.

    1. You are looking in the wrong area or game type that is.  If you want a PVP game where there is no safe spots then you need to look at FPS such as COD, BF(2 or 2245) or CS.  Or maybe a MMOFPS, how ever a MMORPG is a role playing game which actually does  not necessarly need Player Vrs Player to be sucessful. Or you may look at EVE as the poster above suggested.

    2.  This depends on what you consider pointless. IMHO PVP in any of the current or past RPG games is pointless.  Actualy, PVP on non-FPS is pointless.  Take the classic lvl60-90 barby going into a lvl12 D2 games and killing all the lvl12s, what is the point of that? What is the point of a Pirat in EVE camping a gate and killing noob players or empty Indys? The ammo the prats use cost more than any thing they could recover from their victims so yes, that so called PVP is pointless.  Unless you consider the act of ganking the point whic from you post you seem to.

    3. It's WOW, really what does it matter if your a PVP sargent or general? The rank in it self means nothing, the points are still there and thats what you use to buy the equipment. The ranks were like the Kill mails in EVE, by themselves they servered no purpose except as perhaps bragging rights which is like bragging right for the barby in D2 "Look I killed 80 players 40 lvls below me today, Woot".

    4. Ah see thats the prob, real Player Vrs Player.  For real PVP you need to look at FPS games like the ones I mentioned above or Mechwarrior or Starsiege/tribes.   The games now days does not have player vrs player but the Blob vrs player of EVE or the minimum of squad vrs squad of Shattered Galaxy.  Well ruinscape does have kinda a PVP but not what you are looking for.

    5. Oh I see you are not looking for a PVP game but a game you can show your ownage, well in that case check out EVE.  EVE is a PKers game made by PKers for PKers with just enough PVE stuff to give you a large base of Victims.  The only safe place in EVE is when you are not playing (docked in a station will keep your clone safe but not necessarly your isk "money")

Really a MMOFPS is the way to go if you want to fight other players, you see the point of an RPG is to create and improve your avatar and to enjoy playing.  What you are looking for is a game that lets you destroy and ruin other players games, short of FPS there is not many that are intrested in being some one elses entertainment.

Here's why I play Carebear servers in WoW. If I want to pvp, I'll log on in BF 2142!

Whenever some1 asks a question about mmo with best pvp I think abour GW. It's the only game where I like to  spend 1-2 hours a week watching only pvp. =P It's  almost like watching sport at tv =P

What is the point of improving your avatar if you only get to fight monsters that will never be as good that anyone can defeat?

Role players dont want to be rps, they want easy and safe games... what is the point? Just play an offline game if you dont want to deal with other people...

Why people always thing that the pvpers and pkers always get strong without any danger? Dont you think that the same guy that is better than you and is killing you once had the same fight with another guy better than him?

When i die to a monster in a game i just think how stupid I was to get killed by the monster. I go back, and kill the monster now that i know  how he "thinks"

When i die to a player in a game i just think how good he is to kill me or he was just lucky? I go back and keep fighting until i get my ass kicked or kill the guy, cause he also learns with me.

Many of the rps dont like pvp cause they always try to run from a fight, not to fight and learn with it. Thats why there are TONS of games out there, because you will get tired of the game and you will need new things, new carebears to play. All your eforts to do the so called: "Improve your avatar and to enjoy playing" will be back to the trash can.

Some of the posters here are being a little unfair to the OP. For example nowhere does he say anything about ganking low levels but he is still accused of wanting a ganking game.

For some people, myself included, WoW battleground PvP is fun. Everyone is roughly the same level, so even despite gear imbalances, fights will be much more fair than any you meet in world PvP. You also see a much greater variety of opponents than in many FPS games (not only different players, but opponents of very different classes, sometimes with radically different builds). Combat is fast and some opponents are quite skilled (although many are not).

I don't think it's unreasonable for him to say he likes battleground PvP and wants more. After having played a high level WoW character, it's possible he may find GW PvP to be in some ways a little simplistic (you mean I only get to use 8 skills instead of 30+ ?(then again - he did play a mage)). Apart from Guild wars, I don't know of many other suitable games - perhaps he should just hold out a little longer. Maybe one of the PvP-centric games due out over the next year, such as AoC, TCoS, PotBS or WhO will suit him.

    best pvp games:

    - daoc

    - shadowbane

    - ww2online

all other mmorpgs have limited pvp content in comparison to this games

  • KyleranKyleran Member LegendaryPosts: 44,087
Really, the only game even close to the OP's requirements and out right now is EvE.

One day Darkfall may come out..and that sounds like it would be the perfect game.

AOC may also fill the bill and is actually on the horizon.

WAR is another candidate..but it won't have the wide-out, FFA PVP the OP wants....

But seriously.... 20+ hours pvping... you really, really need to get out more

I assume you are talking about games where player power is largely derived from their gear. Which in turn creates a pvp environment where a player's power is the deciding factor and not player skill.

It blows my mind that you want a game that isn't gear based and yet you played WoW. WoW is nothing but gear based pvp.

Most MMORPGs are about character development and obtaining gear is a major part of that development. So PvP in these games is always going to be heavily gear dependent.

Pure MMOFPS games are not something I play. I think Huxley and Planetside are the only two I know of and huxley isn't out yet.

I did play wow because it had a few friends there, so i was spending my time waiting for darkfall, but its taking too long ;)

Also i dont like EVE because i dont want to play a spaceship, i want a character...

What is the amazing thing is that everyone think that PvPers and PKs are ganker!

If the RPs get a group and hunt pks, they are joining forces to combat the evil, if the pks get a group to get the rps, they are gankers, even if 3 pks kills 10 rps...

I spend 20 hours because i had to play only during the weeks so i could have the weekend to myself... so i did get out while doing my grand marshal run.

And now i login and i see a post about Casual PvP, LOL.

I might wait for darkfall anyway, or maybe Dawn, from Glitchless -> http://www.glitchless.com/dawn.html

Ty for the ppl who took the time to answer and inform about the PvP games out there

And move to another thread the carebears that doesnt like pvp or respect it.

All your eforts to do the so called: "Improve your avatar and to enjoy playing" will be back to the trash can.

    1.  See that is the exact point: to improve your avatar, why should you read books,  go to school, see the world and get as much exposure to life as possable...  To improve,...  but what does improving your self or your Avatar have to do with PVP in a RPG? Don't get me wrong I love PVP and play PVP games such as COD, BF, CS and love the Mechwarrior series so it's not that I don't understand the challanges of PVP. Actually I'll toss the ball back, did you ever play Duke Nukem? If so whitch was more fun the duke matches or the COOP?  MOGS are about comunities but we will discuss the in a bit.

    2. Actually you are confusing Role Players with PKers.

    3. Deal with people?  HUH?  MOGS are about community and being a useful part of it.   In CS you don't have to deal with the team players you know have to Deal with the Nits that don't understand how to play well with others.  You deal with the pkers, Tkers and those that simpley want to disrupt the game..   You deal with punks you play with team mates and against foes.

    4. OK,, here you are trying to bring some ligitimacy to PKers by placing them equal to PVPers, they are not.  PVPers are not Pkers.. ever.  Example.  CS,,  the T shooting a CT is PVP.   A T shooting another T is PKing and contining to PK is griefing but never ever PVP.  A PVPer always fights an equally equiped player and by equally equiped I meen with the same oppertunities not necessarly the same items.  Ie.  A ShadowHawk(Light) fighting an Abom (Heavy) is PVP because the SH pilot is armed and the fight is ballanced speed vrs fire power.   On the other side (EVE) a Battleship pilot attacking an Indy (unarmed transport) is not PVP but simple PKing,  The diffrence being that the BS is armed and the Indy not only is not armed but there is no balance as it is slower and more fragle than the BS.   Also, most PKers will run if faced with an equal fight.

    5. Ok,. first off you have to define better.  And as to your question, if you are talking a FPS the yes if you are takling a RPG then No. PKers never fight people even close to their lvl and never above.  You will see it in every game, from the lvl20 player in WOW challanging all the lvl10s to a fight but runs off when a lvl18 challanges to the Prats in EVE that will gank unarmed  ships but if there is a remote chance that a real fight will insue they SS and log.   The point, a player the same lvl fighting you and winning is better. but a Pker thats 10+ lvls higher is not a better player just a highr ranking player.

Also you don't have an idea what a care bear is.  A care bear does not fight because they can't the don't fight because there is no reasion too.  Fighting with a point is a waist of time and besides a care bear is one because they are not tring to overcome their short commings.   I am considdered on of the biggest care bears on line but this is because if i see two ppl engaged in a fight I move on to a valid target, but any one that has played me knows that I am always in the top 5 players on any PVP server.

mmorpgs are no where near as good as fps with pvp. Pvp in mmorpgs is completly flawed. It's good for guild vs guild and the social aspect but when it comes 1 v1  combat rpgs just don't cut it.

For a low budget translation of an asian game, Space Cowboy Online has pretty damn good faction versus faction pvp combat.  If you are bored of your current games, check it out.  It is free.  But do not expect it to be a AAA quality title.

I would have to agree that Eve is the best at the open ended game with true pvp.

Auto Assault is another game that flies under the radar.  Its cheap, you can pick it up for like 7 bucks.  Some like it some don't.  Thats ok.

Can you tell I like games that break the typical carebear fantasy PVE mold?

    I am looking forward to:

    WAR

    AoC

    TCoS

    Huxley

    Tabula Rasa

    Fury

    Exteel

They all seem to have an emphasis on PvP.

Best PvP game out there? In my opinion it's Battlefield 2142, since you didn't specify an MMORPG. Even though I still considered all MMOs I'd played BF 2142 just has better and more fun PvP, although SWG pre-cu came close but the button mashing is the annoying aspect of most MMOs.

    Guild Wars

    Lineage 2

    EVE online

Those games have the best pvp I guess, though I dont like any of them.

    Guild Wars (mmorpg my ass)

Lineage 2 (sleep, lineage 2, sleep, lineage 2, eat, lineage 2, sleep...)

EVE online (just bleehh... dont like the game... maybe because I dont like sci-fi has a big part to do with that)
