Trying to Choose a MMORPG (Poll)

ElernetElernet Member Posts: 68

I have been thinking of getting one. I mostly look for good content and original/new things. Graphics aren't that important but they can't be shitty and good graphics are always a plus. I can run almost anything. PvP is a must, the more the better. The ones that look good to me:

World of Warcraft - I am no big Blizzard fan but they do have a history of very solid and well made games.

Guild Wars - the E3 Demo was really nicely made.

Dark and Light - some really cool original features although not many people know about it.

I think I just might get whichever of these 3 comes out first - meaning probably WoW or DnL since Guild Wars comes out later, but you never know WoW still might change the date and DnL guys don't reveal theirs.

I was very impressed by Lineage II at first and thought that I would definately play it. But then as I found out more and more things about it I changed my mind. There is a very steep level grind, but the real teat is this - there is no max level. To make things better you CAN not only loose exp but de-level. Exponential level grinding without max limit but with level losses is way too much. Also, many people complain about lack of content, repetiveness of skills and looks.

So, what does everyone think?

Oh yeah, any reasoning would be appreciated.

i play lineage 2, and yes it is a grind, but your wrong, there is a max lvl, it's 75.

Also as you lvl, the amount of xp you lose on death is decreased

    up to 20 is 10% 20-40 is 8% i believe, 40-50 is 6% i think and anyhigher its 3-4%

    PVP > you

    PVP > you

Cool, thanks for the info - I didn't know that.

I don't usually mind some leveling and I even end up powerleveling at times, but I heard it was very hardcore and time-comsuming in Lineage.

I do like PvP a lot, but I prefer strategy/twitching to pure higher-level-wins. From what I understood, in Lineage it was more of the latter. I am not saying that higher levels shouldnt have advantage - and I agree that lvl 1 shouldn't have any chances against lvl 50. However, in games with steep leveling curves and high max as L2 it usually turns into a grind-race.

I am not trying to attack Lineage 2 - I believe many people like hard leveling and also many people like very heavily level-based PvP. It just doesn't seem in my taste.

Do correct me if I am wrong. Maybe I got the wrong impression.

I would suggest WOW. I would pick that one because I love the communities that can be created in an MMORPG and a lot of people seem to be wanting to play WOW over other games. It also looks incredibly fun and all the features make it an extremely unique game. Definitely, WOW.

    bump..

can anyone tell me any reasons for choosing one over another? image

Each of the 3 look really good to me. Hopefully at least one will satisfy me. I was all hyped up about L2 and very disappointed. It wasn't made for casual gamers at all.

I'd probably take DnL, WoW, then GW, in that order. WoW looks real nice, but I'm a pvp kinda guy and they havent set any rock hard rules so thats my only reason to choose DnL. DnL looks really good... but damnit so do the others.

Trust me on this WoW would be the best pick.

I´d choose DnL, it will have more PvP than GW or WoW, and a lot of new things that WoW and GW will not have. But of course WoW will be more populated than DnL.

My personal favorite will be WoW. I expect it to be a great game. Blizzard has never disappointed me yet with any of their games and I'm sure WoW will keep me hooked for a long time.

Guild Wars is interesting. Especially the fact that you don't have pay a monthly fee for it will be the reason for me to buy it. A lot of my clanmates think the same way so I'll have a nice party around most of the time.

I don't know anything about Dark and Light so I can't make my judgement yet. Just looks nice so far ^^

For you I recommend The following games: Guild Wars or Dragon Empires.

Guild Wars since you have played it I dont have to describe to you the potential of the game. The only Problem I see with this game is replayability issues, after all, nobody wants to do the same mission over and over just to get xp..

Dragon Empires.. mm better take a look at it. It has potential to be great.. IF the developers do things right.

I wopuld discourage you from going to WOW, EQ2 or any of those Player VS Environment games.. since if they include PVP it is really crappy usually.

I agree with you on the fact that GW might have replayability issues. I was thinking the same thing. It is probably it's biggest minus.

As for the Dragon Empires, it does look very nice, but for some reason I really dislike the graphics in that game. I can't explain why, they just annoy me. Still, I will look into it more.

Finally, regarding WoW, I was wondering about that as well. However, I thought that since its Blizzard they should do a good job of PvP. They have shown incredible balancing skills in the past and that is about the single most important factor for good PvP. But then again, who knows - it does depend on how seriously they will take PvP.

Thanks to everyone for their input by the way.

  • RUNESCAPE!!!!! does nobody play it on this site?!?!?!?!

Since you have said this about Lineage 2 do you not think it a sensible idea to wait until at least one of the games you mention is released? Because they could all go the same way as Lineage 2. i am not saying Lineage 2 is a bad game, but you liked it pre-release, then realised you wouldnt like it. So dont fall into the same hype tray with any other game.

Do the sensible thing and wait for release and a few reviews before buying a game.

    DONT BELEIVE THE HYPE!

Not an Elite Member? Hows that happened?
