Simple rhyme schemes and simple words, are you trying to prove that this guy is somehow deep? This is the guy who wrote a song called "Move Bitch" for fucks sake.

What's the name of that song anyway? Gotta have it.

    That killed me...so very true.

Methane...I'm sorry but a guy writing a prayer asking for forgiveness, putting some simple rhymes together, and then rapping the rest of his songs talking about his bitches and hos isn't being deep, it's being a jerk.

I'm not saying that no rap is deep, far from it...hell I posted that Eminem song on the last page...but Ludacris really isn't the best place to go for deep and meaningfull stuff.

True story... And meth, when he does a live show or a concert does he just ditch all the music he's made that contradicts that song? I think not, wouldn't be much of a concert if he only did one song the whole time.

So you guys are saying since an artist has another song that isn't deep.. then that means the artist isn't deep

well I guess Tool isn't deep then ...... WTF is this Sh8?

What the hell qualifies as an advance rhyme scheme to you? I sure as hell hope its not Tool's gaping WTF... or -no offense- Flaw's song above...

That is just a small part of a great song, and it's at the end.

ALL of Ludacris's songs are pretty much vulgar.

All rap consists of is people rhyming, you don't have to rhyme in rock. I'm saying that if that's what your genre of music is, you should at least do it skillfully.

Look up Atmosphere, he's pretty cool.

The man speaks the truth...I can rattle off a dozen songs written by James Keenan (Tool singer) that are incredibly deep and full of poetic metaphore...in fact I think I will, perhaps you would like to go look them up yourself, and then come back with an equal number of songs by your boy Ludacris...oh and each of these will be about different topics as well

    Judith

    Sleeping Beauty

    Brena

    The Package

    The Noose

    Blue

    Vicarious

    Jambi

    10,000 days

    The Pot

    The Grudge

    Mantra

    Schism

    Parabola

    Ticks and Leeches

    Prison Sex

    Sober

    Stinkfist

    Eulogy

    H.

    Jimmy

    Pushit

    Aenema

I could go on, but these are some of the best...Tool has a few songs that are just downright weird...but none of their songs are about bitches and hos, or how much money the band has made...do you know why?  Because Tool isn't about that stuff, at all, ever...they hate that crap, listen to Aenema and tell me what they think about places like Los Angeles and that sort of environment.

edit:  Yes, some of these are APC songs, but all are written and composed by Maynard James Keenan

You all act like every work of music is suppose to have some deep meaning or social significance to be worthy of listening to, knuckleheads. No one piece of music is going to speak to everyone on the planet, nor is it all going to be deep and meaning ful, sometimes it's just $#!+ kicking fun, sometimes it's just going to make you laugh. Some things will make no sense to you if you have no experience in what the song is talking about. Like some of you are going to have a clue about being shot at while you're just sitting in your parent's basement in suburbia smoking pot while they're at work. Or about having girls hang off you when you can't even talk to one.

Yeah some music is poser music, every genre has it's posers so don't act like any one genre is better than another. I've seen good and bad in everything out there (except maybe emo I still haven't seen any of that I like). If you rely on what you hear on the radio or what so and so's "list" says is good then you're a chump, radio only plays what it's told to, not what's really good.

As to the arguments about computer generated music, there is very very very little modern music that is not in some way electronically altered and enhanced, talk to any philharmonic musician and they'll tell you the same. You want a good comparison look at what Hendrix did with an electric guitar, does that sound in any way shape or form like an acoustic? Bands like King Crimson, Emmerson Lake and Palmer, Yes, Rick Wakeman, Vangelis, and many more used synthesizers for decades, all computer generated music. As far as the soul goes, the very first rapper was James Brown ::busts a 45rpm over your head:: knuckleheads.

You may not like the modern rap sell outs, but then you probably don't like the modern rock sell outs either, commercial music is meant for the mindless masses who need to be told what to like but that doesn't mean everything written sucks, to quote one of my favorite rappers, Scott LaRock (Boogie Down Productions, before KRS1):

    Criminal Minded

    You've been blinded

    By sucker MCs

    Who can't even find it

    Ah Yeah

Like I said... find me some rap that isn't about sex, bling and how much money they make and I would probably be willing to listen. I know it exists, there just isn't enough of it. There is alot of it. You just have to look at the underground stage, instead of the mainstream rap the media throws at you.

Try listening to Immortal Technique, i wouldn't call him underground, but he got some great lyrics here and there.

    Good Rap

    Bad rap

I'll leave it up to you all to figure out the difference.

This is not an exhaustive list, by any means, just two fast examples. I can provide more if necessary.

First musician listed on my list was Mozart. He's not the only classical composer I like, nor is he my favorite. I do also like plenty of jazz musicians, though I didn't list any specifically.

So, no, you are not alone in liking Jazz and Classical music.

Would you listen to an hour's worth of nothing but guitar and drums?  Probably not...the words are half of the equation.

You have words without sounds, and it's just poetry

You have sounds without words, and it's just sounds

You have sounds with words, and it's suddenly music.

Of course some purely instrumental music is good...but I for one couldn't sit and listen to nothing but instrumentals all day...it lacks the depth that music with words has.

the words help you get into the song, singing along is half the fun.it could be another language though for all intents and purposes

Maybe...I've never really sat down and listened to a ton of music that was sung in a language that I don't know...so I can't really comment...my limited German speaking ability does allow me to translate most Ramstein songs though.

    here's an example.brilliant music,words unknown(to me)

some rare songs have lyrics that draw you into the track, making you appreciate it more.however if it sounds crap you're never gonna know what the lyrics are cos you'll turn it off

    The streets - stay positive

    Cos this world swallows souls
    And when the blues unfold
It gets cold silence burns holes
    You're going mad
    Perhaps you always were
But when things was good you just didn't care
    This is called irony
When you most need to get up you got no energy
    Time and time shit'll happen
    The dark shit's unwrapping
But no-one's listening your mates are laughing
Your brethren's fucking and then you start hating
Your stomach starts churning and you mind starts turning.
    So smoke another draw
It won't matter no more but the next day still feels sore
    Rain taps on your window
Always did tho but you didn't hear it when things were so-so
    You're on your own now
Your little zone you were born alone and believe me you'll die alone
    Weed becomes a chore
You want the buzz back so you follow the others onto smack

    Just try and stay positive
    Just try and stay positive
    Just try and stay positive
    Just try and stay positive

    Feels nice and still
Good thing about brown is it always will
    It's easy, no-one blames you
It's that world out there that's fucked you
You're no less of a person and if God exists
    He still loves you
Just remember that - the more you sink the further back from that brink
Maybe you've lifetime scars and you think tattoos might be more fitting
    But who's picking?
Searching for yourself you find demons
Try and be a freeman and grasp that talisman
Cos your the same as I am
We all need our fellow man
    We all need our samaritan.
Maybe I'm better looking than you tho
Maybe I've got more dough - but am I happier... no.
Get the love of a good girl and your world will be much richer than my world
    And your happyness will uncurl

    Just try and stay positive
    Just try and stay positive
    Just try and stay positive
    Just try and stay positive

    Stop dreaming
People who say that are blaspheming
They're doing nine to five and moaning
And they don't want you succeeding when theyve blown it
And you idols - who are they?
They too dreamt about their day
Positive steps will see your goals.
Whether it's dollars or control, feel the gold.
I aint helping you climb the ladder
    I'm busy climbing mine.
That's how it's been since the dawn of time
    If you reach a cul-de-sac
    The world turns it's back
This is you zone, it's like blackjack
He might get the ace or the top one
So organise your two's and three's into a run then you'll have fucked him some
And for that you'll be the better one
One last thing before you go though
When you feel better tommorow you'll be a hero
But never forget today. you could be back here
    Things can stray
What if you see me in that window?
You won't help me I know.
That's cool, just keep walking where you go.
Carry on through the estate, stare at the geezers so they know you aint lightweight
    And go see your mates
And when they don't look happy
    Play them this tape

    Just try and stay positive
    Just try and stay positive
    Just try and stay positive
    Just try and stay positive

    I hope you understand me
    Just try and stay positive
I aint no preaching fucker and I aint no do-goody-goody either
This is about when shit goes pear-shaped
And if you aren't or ever have been at rock bottom then good luck to you in the big wide world
But remember that one day shit might just start crumbling
Your bird might fuck off or you might loose your job
It's when that happens that what I'm talking about will feel much more important to you
So if you aint feeling it, just be thankfull that things are cool in your world
    Respect to BC
    Positivity
    Positivity

    Just try and stay positive
    Just try and stay positive
    Just try and stay positive
    Just try and stay positive

This is a UK garage track, more spoken then rapped by a pretty regular guy in his early 20s. I love the lyrics, helped me a lot when I was depressed a while back.

Still most of the music I listen to is usually experimental and electronic and has no lyrics at all.
