is there a way to get better graphics?

1st all, NOT bashing the game, just asking if there is an alternate download or engine upgrade available for world/character models.

I think this game still can be a little fun for the sides, but the graphics are out of line atm (offcourse they are, its 8 y/o)

I know daoc has updated the engine a few times, and was wondering if the same happend to AC

thanks in advance

There have been some graphics tweaks (all of which should be included in the regular download and patches) over the years, but nothing as impressive as an engine upgrade.  If you're playing the free (expansionless) game, you won't have access to the new and more detailed face models for characters.  Also, I think the zones available in the expansions (shadowlands, alien motherships, and whatnot) look a little bit better and manage to get the most out of this game's graphics engine.

Aah allright, thanks a lot for the information.

Doesnt matter, seems the game is pretty fun even with the bad graphics :) we'll see what the time brings.

mayhaps once AoC is up and running Funcom will go back and upgrade AO with the AoC engine.

    or not.

AO graphics isnt that bad.. its just old and dated.

AoC engine for AO? The devs say they may look into that. That was last year they last give us that reply in the AO Forum.

All canceled. Waiting on Warhammer Online : Age of Reckoning.

That post pretty much sums it up.

As for the DAoC thing, here's a quote as to why it's like that for Mythic games, and not so much Funcom:

Is Imperator based on a new game/graphics engine?

Nope, we are still committed to using NDL's GameBryo graphic rendering engine (the same one that powers Dark Age of Camelot) and the DAoC Game Engine (that does everything else). The beauty of this is that as DAoC is improved during the development of Imperator, Imperator will reap the benefit and as certain improvements are coded for Imperator, DAoC will see them. As of this writing, this is already happening.

This is for Imperator (their cancelled MMO) but the same holds true. All their games run off the same base system, so as one gets better, the other does as well. It's a rather genius system if you ask me.

The graphics upgrade for DAoC a while back was in line for Imperator's graphic setting as it was released. It was a "do this, for that" kind of deal.

There is a way to improve graphics.

I force Anisotropic Filtering to 16x and Antialiasing to 16xQ thanks to the NVidia Control Panel (instead of letting it to 'Application-Controlled').

I play in a 2048x1536 window on my Dell 30" 3007WFP-HC with a 8800GTX. (Apparently AO won't go at a higher resolution for me. 2560x1600 just doesn't work).

Forcing those settings really enhance the graphics for me.

(I know my system is overkill for AO but I didn't build it for that).

The game concept and everything is cool, I just can't handle the graphics

After playing Guild Wars for a year now It's a little hard to revert to Anarchy's. It would be really awesome if they did get a new engine!

Yeah the graphic engine in AO is dated but with all things to max, it still taxes some systems to date.  Also... it still has tons more content than many mmos out and coming out.   Unlike many games, it's one you can go back to over and over again and still have fun with.  Some just get old and that's it...
