Revised monthly fee info

The issue isn't really about the fee, which will 99% chance be 15$ with 3-6-12 month discounts. Its how you can make the payment.I hope it is handled by EA.Mythic is terribly user unfriendly with thier fee payments. They do not take prepaid(gift)debit cards, they never issue game cards,if you dont have a bank issued debit/credit card, then u must use pay by cash. However,Mythic wont take paypal via pay by cash.So u must go to a western union and send a quickpay which cost 8 dollars,to pay by cash which charges about 19 dollars for one month.so u could easily wind up paying 27 dollars if you lack access to a bank issued debit card.

I can understand the need for options.  Gamecards are quite useful to those that want them.  But I never understood how anyone could NOT have a credit card.  Card companies start throwing them at you by the time you're 16 (maybe younger nowadays).  And I honestly don't know any adult that doesn't have at least one.  Even the people that I know with horrible credit scores have credit cards.

    Seriously.

Well I never wanted a credit card and still to this day don't have one.  I got a few bought stuff and paid it off just to gain credit but that's about it.  I do have a debit/credit card through my bank but that's not the point.  A lot of people don't want credit cards or are way to young for them.  You can't legally get a credit card until you're 18 years old regardless if they send them at 16 years of age.  I have never used anything but my debit/credit card but i know for a fact tons of people (including the kids) use the pre pay, pay pal or pay by cash so it is definately useful.

jes, when I moved to michigan I lost my florida ID.and with this post 911 kaka,it takes forever to get an ID in a new state. And banks r strict on you need a valid mich id to open acct. then you get into either u deposit 5,000 bucks or do direct deposit, else your paying serious fees.

Mythic wont take gift cards because they by default tap your card every month until u actively cancel.pay by cash is even rough because myhic wont allow paypal via pay by cash.

it is uber lame they wont take visa gift cards or any others, that would be an easy solution. If like me u got direct deposit free debit/checking which with relocation/downsizing/ID wasn't all that easy.then u pay 15 bucks

if you can do 6 month subs at once, then it's just one western union fee,and after sub discount, plus pay by cash mark up.it'l prolly be about $100 for 6 months in one transaction.Ide lean this way if I had the money than the next option.

you can get a bank issued no ID required debit card at most check cashing centers, some drug stores, and western union(recommended card imo) at wu locations or on-line.if you have any regular job wu debit has no monthly fee,and it loads free.but in general they all have a fee to load them a fee to use them, and some even have a monthly fee.plus there $9.99 to activate.

I know some people are laughing, including me,at all you have to go thru to get someone to take your money.I swear one time activating a mythic expansion was a 4 hour r/l quest thru the hood of detroit on payday(1st of month is chaos in detroit, govt checks come in) was more of an adventure then the expansion itself.

GameTime Cards are useful, so you don't have to use your credit card, or something. Among other things. I'm pretty sure they will have GameTime Cards so that most all players can...Play..heh

I remember when I was 16 and playing DAoC that I could pay monthly by giving mythic my routing number and account number from my bank without using a credit/debit card.  So you really dont need a credit card to be able to use mythic.  I also think that mythic has really good customer care.
  • SickpupSickpup Member Posts: 382

ahhh, you just described a checking/debit acct, surprised the bank didn't give you a free debit card.

I played Daoc almost five years, sanya thomas(mythic pr rep) has repeatidly stated that they will not use game cards. She has also advised players that they do not take gift cards.I have been on the phone with mythic billing supervisor and she said there system wont take them.Mythic themselves(sanya) has recommended rechargable no id required credit cards(technically they are debit). They take pay by cash, but not via paypal. so to pay by cash in the US u need to wu quickpay.

Now I don't think EA could posibly continue putting a significant portion of thier customers through this hassle. At least take flippin gift cards.

the way mythic operates is they want recurring revenue.they prolly make 10% or more of thier money from people not getting around to cancel before thier card gets autocharged.gamecards and gift cards run out in say 90 days for a $50 card.

Im sure towards release we will see a more friendly setup by EA.They just don't want to send a crew over there atm to take over billing for daoc.

Actually EA does have some on-line games, not sure if they have an integrated system like ncsoft has or not.EA may actually have to upgrade thier system for all i know.

I do all of my online purchases with Visa endorsed gift cards now, including paying for DAoC until I left again in November. Register the card a with your "billing info" then wait till the computer roll over (ie next business day at most) before you use it, no issues at all.

Get your info stolen once and you will enver use a credit card or checking card online ever again.Anyone who has had credit card fraud undersands that very rarely is the fraud 100% paid for by the credit ocmpany, they usually leave you with a % bill which can be the majority of the costs. Add in getting companies such as Equifax to actually update their data and the hassles are not worth it.

That and the number of times I recieve multiple billings from auto renew subscriptions is enough of a reason to not allow my accounts to be drained directly. One month SOE billed me over 10 times for the same service. Took them about a month to return my money and I couldn't even get the fees associated with the overdrafting back, even though they admitted the error. Using a credit card online just isn't worth the hassle or risk for me ever again.

Okay,so mythic has quitely starting taking visa gift cards.Thats good news.I would also like to add that Visa is the prefered internet card. There a lil harder to find. But many on-line retailers have had thier master card accts. shut down from, complaints, excessive chargebacks, and unauthorized charges. And mastercard doesn't want to deal with the hassle.AMEX charges the retailer a hefty fee so some wont take it.My theory on Visa is that the top banks issue them standard with your acct. and big banks like citi and chase do the charge backs and fraud protection for you,you don't even need to call visa itself. This would make retailers think twice about messing around with a Visa customer. And since a large percentage of big banks provide direct cust service for visa.Visa is happy they don't have to higher more csr's.

Zomg, all i wanted to do was play games.now I got AS in electronic theory,1 year IT training, and at this rate im gonna wind up with a finance degree.Crazy  what they put us pc gamers thru.

Wow, after reading this thread I have come to the conclusion that you complain alot, and spew crap without knowing what you are talking about.

Mythic has stated several times that the reason they don't allow Gamecards if simply a cost reason, because they have to PAY to have a box on the shelf the same as if they were placing a game up for sale. Sanya has described the problem in more detail and better then I can. However, the bottom line is simple, they don't use game cards because they make nothing off of the sub money, and it may even cost them to offer the service. Since Mythic used to be a small independent game company, they couldn't afford to pay you to play their game.

Here, I even did the search for you.

Q: Why doesn't Mythic use game cards for people who don't have credit cards?

A: Those little plastic cards, preloaded with several months of subscription time, are pretty neat. But any question that begins with "Why doesn't Company X do Y" can be answered with "Money."

Other MMO companies that use the game cards will admit that 2-3% of their players use them, and that it comes out to a loss for their company. Retailers sell them on the same terms that they sell software boxes - meaning half of what you pay is going to the retailer. So, a month's play time on one of those cards costs you twelve dollars or more, but the game company only gets half.

2-3% of our customers use Pay By Cash (http://support.darkageofcamelot.com/kb/article.php?id=455), and less the processing fee, the subscription money comes to us.

(There are various "pre-loaded" credit cards out there, that act as a debit card on a total dollar amount that you pay up front. Some of these, MC and Visa, work pretty well. One provider is located here: https://www.greendotonline.com/contents/login.aspx. The American Express preloaded cards almost never work, be warned.)

With all that said, we'd like to offer the game cards, and we have business guys constantly trying to negotiate an arrangement on this topic. For now, Pay By Cash is the best option.

Nope, they always have as a properly register gift card is indistinguishable from any other card while being processed. Most people never get an address associated with the card which is the issue.

This is one of those RTFM moments.

Everytime you get a gift card they give you a little sheet listing this information, read it next time.

and please does anyone really wanna hear the excuses from mythic as to why they wont issue game cards.and no you cannot get a credit card under the age of 18 without a co-signer.Unless you are some uber elite blue blooded slob.If you find me a credit card in the US or a Bank that will isuue a checking/debit without a co-signer which isnt a western union or check cashing store, please let me know.Because in the US a minors signature is not binding, you could have a kid spam checks with immunity.

As for you not saying why they didn't issue them, do you read what you post? Here, let me quote you.

Maybe you just can't understand what it is you post.

As for Mythic's excuse, seems pretty valid to me, do you have any facts to back up what you accused them of or to disprove what Sanya said?

To all it may concern ,I started this thread to quash an anti-semitic thread that the mods turned I blind eye to.Im not a layer and dont need to prove anything.I have a chase visa and am totally set myself.I tryed to give all the info I could. But honestly I really don't care how you have to figure out how to play, since i am set.Anyone on this forum with over a 100 i.Q. should have figured out this was nothing more than a cover up thread.
